Definitions
- the present invention relates to a blank for erecting into a wrap-around carrier as defined in the preamble of claim 1. Moreover, the present invention relates to a carrier package comprising a carrier and a plurality of containers located within said carrier, as defined in the preamble of claim 11.
- a wrap-around carrier is conventionally formed by wrapping a carrier blank around a set of containers, and connecting opposite ends of the blank to one another with adhesive material or mechanical locks.
- a conventional wrap-around carrier is typically separated at the connected blank ends, or portions of the carrier are torn at the ends of the carrier, to allow removal of the containers held within the carrier.
- wrap-around carriers typically do not have a dispensing feature that is defined where containers contained in the carrier can be dispensed in a controlled manner.
- conventional wrap-around carriers suffer from the disadvantage that once open, they can no longer hold containers or the overall integrity of the carrier is compromised.
- a blank for erecting into a wrap-around carrier according to the preamble of claim 1 and a respective carrier package according to the preamble of claim 11, i.e. comprising a dispenser feature, are disclosed in US 4566593 A .
- the dispenser pattern which is defined by tear lines, extends across the top panel and one of the side panels and is foldably connected to the upper edge of the second side panel allowing the dispenser flap to be folded upwards to open the dispensing opening.
- End panels are foldably connected to the side panels for retaining the articles in the carrier. Each pair of end panels is connected via gusset panels to a tuck flap which is foldably connected to the top panel and is folded inwardly against the underside of the latter in the carrier.
- the dispenser pattern extends across the top panel into both side panels such that it may be torn off completely to provide for access to the packed articles.
- Handle strips which may be made from plastic and are secured to the end panels may be provided at either end of the carrier and contribute to prevent the containers from unintentional escaping of the containers from the carrier and to maintaining the carrier in shape when the dispenser flap is torn off.
- the present invention aims at providing for a wrap-around carrier of the generic type and a blank to be folded into same that have dispensing features, have little risk for containers to fall out of the carrier, are easy and inexpensive to manufacture, and provide for appealingly located space for printing. More generally described, the present invention aims at providing for wrap-around carriers that provide a new balance of properties.
- the carrier package of the present invention thus, comprises among others a specific ' retention panel extending completely across the first end of the carrier which retention panel is separated from a portion of the top panel by a cut line.
- the wrap-around carrier of the present invention comprises a drop down gusset on its rear end, i.e. the end opposite to the end where the dispenser is provided, to further restrain the articles within the carrier from falling out of the carrier.
- the drop down gusset provides an additional area for printed information or the like.
- Figs. 1 to 23 do not show a blank and a package, respectively, with the particular retention panel of the present invention. Rather, only Figs. 24 to 27 show such a blank and a package, respectively. However, Figs. 1 to 23 and the description relating thereto are kept in the present disclosure since they are essential for understanding of the blank and the carrier package of Figs. 24 to 27 .
- FIG. 1 is a plan view of a blank 8 used to form a carrier package 150 (illustrated in FIGS. 4-12 ) not covered by the present invention.
