Description

The invention relates to a heat exchanger, in particular a charge air cooler, with the features of the preamble of claim 1.
A charge air cooler is off DE 43 07 503 A1 known. The connection plate is there in one piece. There are no one-piece flat tubes available there, but heat exchanger plates that form flat tubes.
Furthermore, a heat exchanger, which is probably also a charge air cooler, from the DE 44 07 080 A1 known. A connection plate has not been shown or described there. The flat tubes are also formed from plates.
From this prior art, the present invention is based, wherein the inventor have set the task of reducing the number of individual parts of the heat exchanger, which can lead to a better manufacturability.

The solution according to the invention is carried out with the features of claim 1.
The present proposal envisages transferring a construction principle for heat exchangers known per se, for example for parallel-flow condensers, to a charge air cooler which is arranged in a housing through which the charge air can flow. The peculiarity of the design further consists in the fact that the construction principle known per se was equipped with a special connection plate.

Because there are at least four headers, the coolant defining at least one wayway located between the first and second headers and an oppositely directed return path located between the third and fourth headers, the way and the way back, seen in the flow direction of the charge air, is provided in successively arranged flat-tube corrugated rib levels, the manufacturability has been improved. There are much shorter solder joints available, reducing the risk of leakage. In this case, the first and the fourth manifold may be formed as a double tube and the second and third manifold may also be a double tube.
The headers consist of round, square or oval tubes, which have a series of slots to accommodate the ends of the flat tubes. The provision of receiving slots leads to a cost-effective production for heat exchangers, which also results in dense solder joints.

The headers extend parallel to each other.
The connection plate is multi-part, preferably in two parts, formed. One part of the connection plate is a frame part and the other part is a flat part.

The flow connection between the second manifold and the third manifold takes place in a preferred alternative via the connection plate. There, in the frame part of the connection plate, a Überströmdom was formed.
The planar part has at least four openings which receive the ends of the collecting tanks.

The flat part is trough-like deposited, the trough rests on the outermost corrugated fin. The frame part lies flat on the circumferential edge of the trough.

As another alternative, the flow connection between the second header and the third header is provided at the terminal plate opposite end of the two headers or near this end.

The flat tubes are integrally formed. For example, it concerns flat tubes whitened with a longitudinal seam or a semifinished product, for example drawn or extruded flat tubes.
At the terminal plate opposite end of the headers there is another plate which closes the ends of the headers and may be an end plate.

The invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings in an embodiment. The description contains other features and effects that may be more significant than currently believed.
  • Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of the heat exchanger.
  • Fig. 2 shows a section through the heat exchanger.
  • Fig. 3 shows the heat exchanger in an exploded view.
  • Fig. 4 also shows a perspective view of a modified heat exchanger. FIG. 5 shows a section through the heat exchanger of FIG. 4. FIG. 6 shows a front view of the heat exchanger. FIGS. 7-12 show sections according to the designation in FIG. 6. FIG. 13 shows the heat exchanger arranged in the housing.

The housing 6 (FIG. 13) may be the air intake port or the air intake passage of an internal combustion engine (not shown) through which the charge air compressed by a supercharger or turbocharger and heated due to the compression process flows through Combustion air to get into the cylinder of the internal combustion engine. To increase the degree of filling of the cylinder and thus the efficiency of the charge, a cooling of the charge air is known to be necessary, which is carried out by means of the charge air cooler.
The intercooler has at least four manifolds 3.1 - 3.4 , which represent the manifolds 3 . In the exemplary embodiment, for example, no extruded double tubes were provided but four individual manifolds. The coolant describes at least one way, which lies between the first and the second manifold 3.1, 3.2 and at least one extending in the opposite direction return path, which lies between the third and fourth manifold 3.3, 3.4 , wherein the way in at least one flat tube 1 -. Corrugated ribs 2 - series and the return path in at least one other flat tube 1 - corrugated fins 2 - series is provided, which, viewed in the flow direction of the charge air, are arranged one behind the other. The flow direction of the charge air is approximately perpendicular to the corrugated fins 2 in order to be able to flow through them. The direction of flow of the coolant results from the block arrows drawn on the connecting piece 4 in FIG. 1. This type of flow is often referred to as cross countercurrent.
All parts of the intercooler are aluminum parts that have been joined in the brazing furnace.
FIG. 2 shows a section through the collecting pipes 3. 2 and 3. 3 lying away from the connection stubs 4 . There are also arrows that describe the path of the coolant.

The multi-part terminal plate 5 consists in the embodiment of two parts, wherein the upper part 5.1 is a frame part and arranged underneath part 5.2 is a flat part. In the frame part 5.1 a dome-shaped deformation was formed, which is referred to as Überströmdom 7 . This Überströmdom 7 is by means of the openings 53 in the sheet-like part 5.1 in flow communication 70 with the two manifolds 3.2 and 3.3. After the coolant which has flowed through a flat tube 1 between the first and the second manifold 3.1 and 3.2 , it is transferred via the above-mentioned Überströmdom 7 from the way to the way back, and it is the other flat tubes 1 between the third and the fourth manifold 3.3 and 3.4 . The flat part 5.1 has a deep-drawn trough, which rests on the outer corrugated fin 2.
As FIG. 3 clearly shows, the flat part 5.1 has a further two openings 53 in which the ends of the other manifolds 3.1 and 3.4 are received and soldered tight. The connecting pieces 4 are in turn arranged according to the embodiment in Figures 1-3 in other apertures in the frame part 5.2 and ensure to -. And discharge of the liquid coolant, which belongs to the cooling circuit of the internal combustion engine, or is branched off therefrom and recycled , (Not shown)
The connection plate 5 is used to attach the intercooler at the opening edge 60 of the housing 6, including attachment openings 57 are provided. At the other end of the collecting pipes 3.1-3.4 there is a plate 50 which at the same time closes the end-side openings of the collecting pipes 3.1-3.4 and which has therefore been formed with corresponding bulges 52 . Further, a projecting edge 51 has been provided, which supports the attachment, for example, by lying in a groove which is formed inside the housing 6, to come to rest. (Not shown)

The already mentioned connecting pieces 4 can, in particular when the collecting pipes 3 have an approximately round cross-section, also be integrally formed with the respective collecting pipe 3 , which can be seen from FIGS. 4, 5, 6 or 11. Furthermore, however, the manifolds 3 may also have other cross-sectional shapes. For example, FIG. 8 shows approximately quadratic cross-sectional shapes. With different cross-sectional shapes, the transition from the non-circular cross section of the manifolds 3 to the round offers Cross-section of the connecting piece 4 in that the connecting plate 5 is formed in several parts. For clarity, reference is again made to FIG. In the lower plate 5.2 would then be the non-circular openings 53 , which correspond to the corresponding cross section of the manifold 3 , and in the upper plate 5.1, the round openings in which the nozzle 4 sit.

In addition, there are other design variants relating to the formation of the transfer of the coolant (flow connection 70) from one header to the other header, as shown in FIGS. 4, 5, 9, or 12. In FIG. 12, the flow connection 70 has been integrated into the end-side closures of the collecting pipes 3.2 and 3.3 . In the other figures, the two pipe walls were broken to provide the flow connection 70 .

Overall, this proposal is a relatively production-friendly heat exchanger. The headers 3.1 - 3.4 are manufactured as semi-finished, cut to length and provided with slots 13 , which has proven very useful, for example, in the construction of capacitors. Welded or drawn flat tubes 1 are cut to length and stacked with the corrugated fins 2 . The ends of the flat tubes 1 are pushed into the slots 13 of the headers 3.1 - 3.4 . The terminal plate 5 and the plate 50, which may be a termination plate, are attached. The overall construction is soldered in the brazing furnace and is then available for installation in the housing 6 as intercooler.
