Description
The invention relates to the field of materials containing cellulose or converted cellulose. It also relates to the field of natural and artificial fibers and the sheet-like products produced therefrom. These include primarily paper and cardboard. These are known to be made mainly from natural fibers, but also from artificial fibers.
High quality papers are marked with a line. For this purpose, so-called coating color is applied to the finished paper web. The coating color generally consists of a dispersion, for example based on kaolin. The painting should meet different, different requirements for the finished paper. These include the improvement of printability, transparency, surface, flatness and more.
These requirements are not fulfilled or only insufficiently.
The invention has for its object to provide a method by which can produce a substance that is suitable as an aggregate for the products mentioned, thus for paper, cardboard and coating colors.
This object is solved by the features of the independent claims.
The process according to the invention uses cellulose as starting material. Suitable cellulosic suppliers are plants of all kinds, above all wood, but also cereal straw, bamboo, grass, flax or hemp, any kind of native cellulose. The techniques of cellulose recovery are known. Wood chips, for example, are produced from wood, and the wood chips are subjected to a boiling process (by the sulphite or sulphate process), whereby lignins and hemicelluloses are dissolved and the cellulose fibers remain. in principle It is also possible to produce fibrous materials as starting material for paper and board production by grinding wood with the addition of water. In this case, no leaching of the lignin takes place.
According to the invention, the treatment of the starting material may involve its cooking with the addition of acid. But it can also be worked acid free. If you work acid-free, the cellulose-containing starting material is mixed with water and subjected to a shearing process.
- the cellulose fibers are mixed with an acid
- the mixture is heated so that the cellulose is hydrolyzed
- The resulting hydrolyzed cellulose is converted by the addition of water or with / without comminution aids in a dispersion
- the dispersion is subjected to a shearing process to comminute the cellulose particles.
The crushing is carried out until reaching the nano-area. The resulting product, thus the mentioned base material, is present in particles with a mean particle size of 0.1 to 100 my, for example, a particle size of 1 to 20 my. The base material is referred to below as "Nano Disperse Cellulose" (NDC).
If you work without acid, you create a base material with particles that are elongated. They can have a length of between 10 and 200 my and a thickness of 0.5 to 15 my. Preferably, they are about 50 my long and about 1 my thick.
The base material obtained in this way is now added to the fiber-containing material mentioned at the outset. This can be in solid or liquid form happen. Thus, the base material of the pulp suspension can be added even before it reaches the paper machine. The base material can also be added to the coating color before it is applied as a line on the fibrous web of paper or cardboard.
The mentioned shearing process can be treated in a variety of paper making facilities, for example in grinding units such as refiners. The base material may be partially collodially or partially dispersed.
The base fabric can be added to the pulp which forms the paper or board web, or the coating color, in varying amounts. So it is conceivable that the finished paper contains between 0.1 and 50% NDC. In general, the proportion of NDC in the finished paper will be 0.1 to 5% by weight.
The NDC according to the invention can also be used in combination with other materials to the pulp, which forms the sheet product such as paper or cardboard, or the coating color. For example, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), kaolin, binders, cobinders, thickeners, thixotropic agents, carriers and others are contemplated.
