Des weiteren ist es möglich, solche Werkstücke einzusetzen, deren Schmalseiten bereits eine "Druckqualität" aufgrund ihres Ausgangswerkstoffes aufweisen, um sie nach dem Ink-Jet-Druckverfahren bedrukken zu können. - Machine for printing workpieces having an inkjet printing system (6) which has several print heads (7) each consisting of several ink modules (8), and having a workpiece receiving device (1) in the form of a transport device which conveys the workpieces (2) along on theinkjet printing system (6) and adjacent to which the print heads (7) are mounted on a carrier (9) on which is located an adjusting device (10) for adjustment of the print heads (7) relative to the workpieces (2),
characterised in that
the workpieces (2) are board-like structural members or structural elements of which the narrow edges (3) are printed, wherein theseworkpieces (2) are conveyed lying flat horizontally on theworkpiece receiving device (1) and the print heads (7) are mounted opposite the narrow edges (3) of the board-like workpieces (2) held on the workpiece receiving device (1)andone behind the other in the longitudinal direction of these narrow edges (3), and allocated to different height regions of the narrow edges (3) of the workpieces, wherein the ink modules (8) of each print head (7) are each independently provided for ink application to the narrow edges (3) of the workpieces and wherein above the workpiece receiving device (1) is mounted an upper pressure device which holds down the workpieces (2) thereon. - Machine according to claim 1,
characterised in that
the adjusting device (10) of each print head (7) has a vertical guide (11) in the direction of the width of the narrow edges (3) of the workpieces as well as a transverse guide (12) perpendicular or at an angle thereto for a respectively corresponding path of displacement of the print head (7) relative to the narrow edges (3) of the workpieces. - Machine according to claim 2,

each adjusting device (10) comprises a pivot mechanism for adjustment of the angle of the print head (7). - Machine according to any of claims 1 - 3,

in front of the print head (7), seen in the direction of approach of the workpieces (2) relative to the print head (7), is mounted a primer unit (5) for applying a primer to thenarrow edges (3) of the workpieces. - Machine according to any of claims 1 - 5,

behind the print head (7), seen in the direction of approach of the workpieces (2) relative to the print head (7), a drier unit (13) is mounted at the height of thenarrow edges (3) of the workpieces. - Machine according to claim 6,
characterised in that
behind the drier unit (13), seen in the direction of approach of the workpieces (2) relative to the print head (7), is mounted a unit (14) for finishing the surfaces of thenarrow edges (3) of the workpieces.
