Definitions
- the present invention is in the field of printing techniques for packaging and relates to a new advertising insert, called "leaflet” intended to be inserted in a particular food product packaging, and its manufacturing process, .
- a particularly economical production technique for printing the leaflet is its printing by continuous printing machines, said rotating, and delivering at the output of a folded leaflet, shaped and cut, that is to say finished.
- the flow pack technique requires first making the prints and then taking them back to a different machine for insertion into the bags; these rather lengthy and costly operations ultimately weigh down the cost of the product; furthermore, the heat-sealed edges of the ends take up a place in the package which limits that of the printed part. For example if the bag is to be inserted into a box of Camembert type cheese, it will have an overall length of about 80 mm; given a heat-sealing of at least 10mm width at each end of the bag, the length of the print is reduced to 55 or 60 mm, which significantly reduces the size of the message, advertising for example. Finally, the end consumer must take the trouble to open the flow-pack, for example with a pair of scissors, to read the information.
- the film-coating technique as practiced heretofore consists in applying a sheet of plastic material to each individual sheet of the print. This forces to realize the print in several stages on several machines, even in places of production different or distant; which is still reflected in low production rates, significant manufacturing delays with storage of intermediate products, and finally high costs.
- this technique is very advantageous from the point of view of gaining information space compared to the flow pack technique.
- it still has the disadvantage of leading to a leaflet whose automatic gripping is less easy than that of the leaflet in flow pack, or even impossible, because of the random nature of its bulk (possibility of spontaneous opening or unfolding or under action of grasping organ); in other words we must manually place the leaflet in the package.
- leaflet of which at least all the external faces are film-coated, and which presents itself as an object of a certain size, easy to grasp. automatic way, by suction cup for example.
- US-A-5,667,120 discloses a document according to claim 1, but with a non-repositionable glue.
- the present invention thus has two objects: on the one hand products, said documents, or leaflets, and on the other hand a process for producing leaflets and the products obtained according to the process, some of these products satisfying the definition of the first object.
- a shaped film-coated printed document intended to be inserted in a package, comprising at least two so-called external sheets, or cover sheets, of which at least the outer faces are film-coated, is characterized in that it includes, extending the so-called end edge of at least one of said two cover sheets, a flap, also laminated on at least its outer face, said flap comprising the glue reposionnable on its inner face so as to confer, being folded on the outer face of the other cover sheet, a clasp function to maintain pressed against each other so-called two sheets at least and to give the document a defined space allowing its mechanical grip.
- Film-coated faces are understood to mean that the faces are coated with an adhesive film of plastic material, which, as mentioned above, is known from the prior art, but by a sheet-by-sheet method.
- Shaped document means that the document does not require any other treatment, that it is ready to be used, in particular that it includes its cuts, rectilinear or curved, top or bottom, finishing and of presentation.
- repositionable glue is meant a substance whose adhesiveness allows the final consumer to open the leaflet several times by lifting the shutter, and to close it without risk of tearing the leaflet.
- the document of the invention thus defined can be in various forms of folding known from the prior art: in single booklet or with inner sheets, rolled fold with one or more inner sheets, accordion.
- the definition of the document of the invention includes the fact that the document can be printed on each of the faces of its sheets, which is generally sought since it is, for a given cost, to communicate the maximum of information, but also the fact that faces of sheets other than cover can be laminated; this will be the case, for example, for documents intended to be placed in packaging where there is a very high hygrometry or a biologically aggressive medium.
- said document being of the kind consisting of two sheets connected and articulated by a fold, and film-coated on at least their face appearing as outer when folded one on the other, said flap is folded on the outer face the other slip; it is understood that this is the simplest document that meets the definition of the invention.
- the document is of the kind consisting of several sheets connected and articulated "booklet", including two sheets of neck film-coated at least on their face appearing as outer when folded over each other, said flap is folded on the outer face of the other cover sheet.
- said document being of the kind consisting of several sheets folded "rolled", two external sheets filmed on their face appearing as outer when folded over each other, said flap is folded on the outside the other cover sheet.
- said document being of the kind consisting of several odd-numbered leaflets articulated in "accordion", of which two external sheets filmed on their face appearing as outer when they are folded over each other, it comprises two parts, each along the end edge of a said cover sheet, each of said flaps being folded on the outer face of the other cover sheet.
- the said at least part of the said strip on which the said adhesive film is plated is a printed part, but not necessarily of verbal elements; it can thus be conceived that it can be printed in a flat color, the interest of film coating remaining to hinder the migration of solvents with olfactory activity.
- a document 1 said leaflet because of its destination is of the type in booklet and has four sheets such as 2 or 3; the leaflets generally result from the folding of a double sheet; the two inner sheets 3 are fixed by gluing for example along their fold line; the outer sheets 2 are said to cover and, in the drawing, their outer faces 4 are facing upwards. In general, all the faces of the leaflets are printed.
- FIGS. 3 and 4 are schematized in a similar manner to that of FIG. 2, respectively a "folded” leaflet 8, and a “accordion” leaflet 9, both of which have four sheets.
- leaflets of the previous figures can be derived from a continuous production behind a press.
- any leaflets 1, 8 or 9 was placed under "flow-pack", ie in a sachet 11 closed by heat sealing in 110 and it appears that the dimensions of the leaflet must be smaller than those of the bag at least the width of the heat sealing.
- the need for this disposition in flow-pack results, as stated above, hygiene requirements on the one hand, and mechanization of the grip on the other hand.
- a leaflet 10 according to the invention of the double-leafletlet type 11 and 12, therefore external or covering, is characterized in its structure by the existence of a flap 13, with a function clasp, extending on its end edge, one of the cover sheets, and laminated outer faces of the sheets including the outer face of the flap 13.
- a line of repositionable glue 14 keeps the flap in the folded position at above the cover sheet 11.
- Each station is thus respectively the seat of a printing operation, plating or laminating, folding, folding, sizing (glueing), folding, cutting and it must be understood that the all of the posts described above form a leaflets production line, whose arrangement depends on the type of leaflet to be obtained. But this is an engineering approach quite common to those skilled in the art of modern continuous printing, given that, by the present specifications, the rules of continuous filming are given. and placing the glue on one or two lateral parts formed for this purpose to form a clasp.
- Fig.11 schematically illustrates a leaflet 60 similar to that of fig. 3, that is to say in roll folded four sheets, but having the attributes of the invention, namely a film coating 62 on the outer face of its outer sheets 63, 64 cover and a flap 65 with clasp function extending the end edge 66 of the sheet 63 on which are bent and folded one on the other two internal sheets 61.
- FIG. 12 schematically illustrates an accordion leaflet 70 different from that of FIG. 4 in that on the one hand it comprises an odd number of leaflets, namely three, including two outer cover sheets 71, 72 and an inner leaflet; 73, on the other hand in that the outer sheets have their outer face respectively 74, 75, film-coated, and are each extended by a flap, respectively 76, 77 clasp function.
- the leaflet also differs from that of fig.4, in that it was obtained according to the method of the invention.
- Fig.13 illustrates schematically a leaflet 80 also relevant to the invention, but only because of its obtaining according to the method in the most general definition thereof.
- This leaflet consists only of a single sheet 81 laminated on one side 82 which may be printed or not printed but which will be the face intended to be in contact with the wet product, and in the latter case the printed side will be the other side 83, uncoated.
- FIGS. 9 to 12 it will be understood that it is for a better readability and understanding of FIGS. 9 to 12 that the leaflets are represented half-open, but that in reality they are closed by their clasp, as represented in FIG. 8, and as defined in FIGS. claims.
- leaflets Although a relatively simplified embodiment of the process of the invention and various embodiments of laminated printed documents, referred to as leaflets thereof, have been described and shown by way of example, it should be understood that These examples are not exhaustive of its scope, and we shall take care, in order to know the scope of the latter, to refer to the general definitions which are given, both of the document taken in its structure, and of the process taken in its various forms. operations.

Abstract
Description
The present invention is in the field of printing techniques for packaging and relates to a new advertising insert, called "leaflet" intended to be inserted in a particular food product packaging, and its manufacturing process, .
It is recalled that today many wet food products such as cheese, precut meat, vegetables or fruits, are presented to customers confined in a package that isolates them from the air and external contacts, for reasons preservation (avoid desiccation, oxidation), hygiene, even simple presentation. Such well-known packages are, for example, "pie-shaped" cheeses, consisting of a first flexible sheet itself consisting of a combination of paper and a plastic film, and a cylindrical cardboard or plastic box. wood; for example still the packaging of pre-cut pieces of meat that are found in the "super markets", consisting of a tray of expanded polystyrene closed, over the / the pieces of meat that contains the tray, by a transparent film; One could thus cite very varied examples of packaging in which the food product, generally wet in these cases, is confined, visible or not, in its packaging which will be sought a suitable seal.
However, according to modern distribution techniques, it will sometimes be necessary to insert in the packaging information relating to the packaged product, for example the history of its production, the indication of its origin, etc., or advice to prepare it. We will include in the packaging a printed document, usually paper, said "leaflet" containing this information.
A particularly economical production technique for printing the leaflet is its printing by continuous printing machines, said rotating, and delivering at the output of a folded leaflet, shaped and cut, that is to say finished.
However, both for reasons of hygiene, sometimes resulting from regulation and prohibiting direct contact of the printing ink with the food product, and for reasons of presentation of the leaflet that the exudation water and / or tempera condensation and deteriorates, we sought to isolate the leaflet while leaving its legibility.
- packaging in a heat-sealed plastic bag of the leaflet, a technique known as "flow pack"
- "laminating" or laminating leaflet leaflet at least on its outer faces,
The flow pack technique requires first making the prints and then taking them back to a different machine for insertion into the bags; these rather lengthy and costly operations ultimately weigh down the cost of the product; furthermore, the heat-sealed edges of the ends take up a place in the package which limits that of the printed part.
The film-coating technique as practiced heretofore consists in applying a sheet of plastic material to each individual sheet of the print. This forces to realize the print in several stages on several machines, even in places of production different or distant; which is still reflected in low production rates, significant manufacturing delays with storage of intermediate products, and finally high costs. However, this technique is very advantageous from the point of view of gaining information space compared to the flow pack technique. However, it still has the disadvantage of leading to a leaflet whose automatic gripping is less easy than that of the leaflet in flow pack, or even impossible, because of the random nature of its bulk (possibility of spontaneous opening or unfolding or under action of grasping organ); in other words we must manually place the leaflet in the package.
In summary, it is known to produce, on the one hand, film leaflets, but according to a sheet-by-sheet production technique which is therefore expensive and gives products which are not prehensile automatically, on the other hand it is known to produce leaflets but not laminated and must be placed under flow-pack to meet hygiene standards and be automatically prehensile.
In conclusion it has not yet been proposed to leave film-coated leaflet, or otherwise isolated, and finished a chain of printing and continuous shaping comprising a rotary printing machine, and whose gripping can be automated so reliable.
It is precisely the object of the present invention to produce continuously at the output of the press a printed document called leaflet, of which at least all the external faces are film-coated, and which presents itself as an object of a certain size, easy to grasp. automatic way, by suction cup for example.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the interest of continuous production, which does not only mean a considerable saving of time in terms of manufacturing cost, but also and above all in considerably reducing the time required to make the leaflet available to the end user. ; indeed the leaflet is often used in promotional campaigns that require a coordination, always difficult, of the different actors of the campaign, and the shortening of a single delay is a determining factor of the effectiveness of the coordination.
The present invention thus has two objects: on the one hand products, said documents, or leaflets, and on the other hand a process for producing leaflets and the products obtained according to the process, some of these products satisfying the definition of the first object.
According to the present invention, in its first object, a shaped film-coated printed document, called "leaflet" intended to be inserted in a package, comprising at least two so-called external sheets, or cover sheets, of which at least the outer faces are film-coated, is characterized in that it includes, extending the so-called end edge of at least one of said two cover sheets, a flap, also laminated on at least its outer face, said flap comprising the glue reposionnable on its inner face so as to confer, being folded on the outer face of the other cover sheet, a clasp function to maintain pressed against each other so-called two sheets at least and to give the document a defined space allowing its mechanical grip.
Film-coated faces are understood to mean that the faces are coated with an adhesive film of plastic material, which, as mentioned above, is known from the prior art, but by a sheet-by-sheet method.
Shaped document means that the document does not require any other treatment, that it is ready to be used, in particular that it includes its cuts, rectilinear or curved, top or bottom, finishing and of presentation.
By repositionable glue is meant a substance whose adhesiveness allows the final consumer to open the leaflet several times by lifting the shutter, and to close it without risk of tearing the leaflet.
The document of the invention thus defined can be in various forms of folding known from the prior art: in single booklet or with inner sheets, rolled fold with one or more inner sheets, accordion.
Thanks to the clasp it will be dispensed with having to place the document under "flow-pack" since at the same time it will be isolated by the lamination and that it will have a size, or a geometry, well defined as well as a compactness allowing its gripping automated mechanics.
It should be noted that the definition of the document of the invention includes the fact that the document can be printed on each of the faces of its sheets, which is generally sought since it is, for a given cost, to communicate the maximum of information, but also the fact that faces of sheets other than cover can be laminated; this will be the case, for example, for documents intended to be placed in packaging where there is a very high hygrometry or a biologically aggressive medium.
Advantageously said document being of the kind consisting of two sheets connected and articulated by a fold, and film-coated on at least their face appearing as outer when folded one on the other, said flap is folded on the outer face the other slip; it is understood that this is the simplest document that meets the definition of the invention.
Advantageously, the document is of the kind consisting of several sheets connected and articulated "booklet", including two sheets of neck film-coated at least on their face appearing as outer when folded over each other, said flap is folded on the outer face of the other cover sheet.
Note that in this case a known technique of continuous broaching, such as deposited a glue net at the location of a fold separating two sheets, can be included in the process to be described later; a document of the most common kind will thus be obtained that meets the definition of the invention.
Advantageously also said document being of the kind consisting of several sheets folded "rolled", two external sheets filmed on their face appearing as outer when folded over each other, said flap is folded on the outside the other cover sheet.
Advantageously, finally, said document being of the kind consisting of several odd-numbered leaflets articulated in "accordion", of which two external sheets filmed on their face appearing as outer when they are folded over each other, it comprises two parts, each along the end edge of a said cover sheet, each of said flaps being folded on the outer face of the other cover sheet.
- continuously printing on a rotating machine constituting a first said printing station, information on at least one of the two faces of a continuous strip of said support to obtain a band printed on at least one of its faces,
- unwinding from a reel and continuously laminating a plastic-coated film allowing in particular contact with food products, on at least a portion of said strip to obtain a film-coated printed tape,
- tronçonner, dans un dernier poste dit de tronçonnage, la dite bande, suivant des lignes de découpe transversales par rapport au sens de défilement pour former des tronçons de bande dont certains au moins constituent le dit document;
- fold a lateral portion called flap above the outer face of a strip to form a clasp and hold the document closed and give it a defined size and compactness allowing its mechanical grip, continuously deposit the adhesive repositionable on one side at least one, said flap, of the lateral parts of said strip, lateral portion contiguous to one of the two cover sheets, said flap being intended to form a clasp for said document consisting of at least two sheets of which two sheets cover at least
- sectioning, in a last so-called cutting station, said strip, along transverse cutting lines with respect to the direction of travel to form strip sections at least some of which constitute said document;
It will be noted that in this item, the technique of which is known in the art, certain cut-off portions may be "falls", for example in cases where the cutting of the tops and / or footings, is at an angle or n is not rectilinear).
Advantageously, the said at least part of the said strip on which the said adhesive film is plated is a printed part, but not necessarily of verbal elements; it can thus be conceived that it can be printed in a flat color, the interest of film coating remaining to hinder the migration of solvents with olfactory activity.
It should be understood at this stage of the definition of the process of the invention that, since the operation hereinafter defined is only alternative, the method applies equally well to the manufacture of a single film-coated card on at least one one of these faces, face that will be that opposite or in contact with the packaged product. No doubt it is known to produce plastic cards, such as for example some modern identity cards, but to the knowledge of the Applicant, it has never been proposed to manufacture simple printed card film in a continuous process out of press.
- continuously folding at least once said film-coated strip to form at least a first fold between two sheets, at least two sheets, said cover, the document being film-coated on at least one so-called outer face.
The invention will be better understood, and details will arise from the description that will be made of its two objects, with reference to the drawings of the attached plates in which:

In fig.1 and 2, a
It appears well in the figure that the leaflet has a rather imprecise space due to the spontaneous spacing of the sheets, and that this imprecision of space makes it unsuitable for automated gripping.
In FIGS. 3 and 4 are schematized in a similar manner to that of FIG. 2, respectively a "folded"
As indicated above the leaflets of the previous figures can be derived from a continuous production behind a press.
In fig.5, any
- un premier poste dit d'impression 15 dans lequel une bande de papier 16 déroulée à partir d'une bobine 17 défile en continu entre les rouleaux d'impression 18 d'une rotative offset constituant le poste, pour fournir une bande imprimée 19;
- un troisième poste 25 dit de pliage dans lequel la bande 24 subit un premier pliage le long d'une ligne de pliage 26. On remarque que la position de la ligne de pliage ménage une partie latérale 27 au dessus de laquelle la bande n'est pas repliée. Cette partie latérale formera ultérieurement un volet à fonction de fermoir. Le troisième poste délivre, toujours en continu, une bande imprimée pelliculée pliée 28 ;
- un cinquième poste 35 dit de repliage de la partie latérale 27 au dessus de la bande; ce poste peut comporter à sa sortie un passage de la bande entre deux rouleaux 37, dits applicateurs, qui assurent l'application de la partie latérale encollée contre la face extérieure de la bande. La bande a alors, dans ce cas particulier de conformation, une structure de bande tubulaire 38;
- a
first printing station 15 in which a web ofpaper 16 unwound from aweb 17 scrolls continuously between theprinting rollers 18 of an offset press constituting the station, to provide a printedweb 19; - a
second laminating station 20 in which anadhesive film 21 unwound from acoil 22 is pressed against the underside of the printedstrip 19 by passing between them between plating rollers 23. The commercially available adhesive film is a transparent polypropylene film of a thickness, suitable for the process, of about ten to thirty microns (10 to 30 microns). The second station delivers a film-coatedtape 24; those skilled in the art understand, as indicated above, that the film could as well, in other cases of manufacture, be plated on the upper face, and in the same way on both sides, lower and upper, Of the band. - a
third folding station 25 in which theband 24 undergoes a first folding along afold line 26. Note that the position of the fold line has alateral portion 27 above which the band is not not folded. This side part will later form a function flap clasp. The third station delivers, still continuously, a folded film-coatedstrip 28; - a
fourth station 30, called repositionable glue laying, or gluing, in which anozzle 31 in communication with a not shown glue tank (which may be under pressure or not), nets a quantity of glue intinitesimale the neighborhood in the center of thelateral portion 27; this station delivers a glued strip 32. In the case of wider flaps the glue can be applied by means of a foam pad recharging in a glue tank for example. - a
fifth station 35 said folding of theside portion 27 above the strip; this station may include at its output a passage of the strip between two rollers 37, called applicators, which ensure the application of the side portion glued against the outer face of the strip. The band then has, in this particular case of conformation, atubular band structure 38; - finally a
sixth station 40 said cutting in which thetubular strip 38 is cut continuously by means of knives mounted transversely to the running direction of the strip on acylinder 41, insections 42 each constituting a leaflet meeting the definition of l invention given above. The leaflets are received, according to a well known technique, on a carpet on which they overlap to be directly stacked and packaged.
Each station is thus respectively the seat of a printing operation, plating or laminating, folding, folding, sizing (glueing), folding, cutting and it must be understood that the all of the posts described above form a leaflets production line, whose arrangement depends on the type of leaflet to be obtained. But this is an engineering approach quite common to those skilled in the art of modern continuous printing, given that, by the present specifications, the rules of continuous filming are given. and placing the glue on one or two lateral parts formed for this purpose to form a clasp.
The following figures give non-limiting examples of types of leaflets can be obtained by carrying out a method or a production line similar to those described above.
In FIGS. 9 and 10, a
3, that is to say in roll folded four sheets, but having the attributes of the invention, namely a
Fig.13 illustrates schematically a leaflet 80 also relevant to the invention, but only because of its obtaining according to the method in the most general definition thereof. This leaflet consists only of a single sheet 81 laminated on one
It will be understood that it is for a better readability and understanding of FIGS. 9 to 12 that the leaflets are represented half-open, but that in reality they are closed by their clasp, as represented in FIG. 8, and as defined in FIGS. claims.
Although a relatively simplified embodiment of the process of the invention and various embodiments of laminated printed documents, referred to as leaflets thereof, have been described and shown by way of example, it should be understood that These examples are not exhaustive of its scope, and we shall take care, in order to know the scope of the latter, to refer to the general definitions which are given, both of the document taken in its structure, and of the process taken in its various forms. operations.
