Claims (40)

  1. A device for applying a substance (P) to keratinous fibers, in particular eyelashes (C) or eyebrows, the device comprising a stalk (4) provided with an applicator element (3; 30; 40; 50; 60; 70; 80; 90; 100; 300; 400) which comprises a support (8) and at least one wall (14; 31; 51; 62; 72; 81; 91) having a first side connected to the support (8) over at least a fraction of its width, and a second side opposite from the first side and defining an applicator edge (16; 32; 53; 64; 74; 82; 107) presenting notches (20, 320) whose bottoms lie at a non-zero distance from the support (8), the applicator edge extending between two portions (11, 12; 102, 103) of the support, the device further comprising a receptacle (6) containing the substance to be applied and a wiper member (7; 7') for wiping the applicator element on leaving the receptacle.
  2. A device according to the preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the applicator element (3) is fixed to one end of a stalk whose other end has a handle member (5) which also constitutes a cap for closing the receptacle (6).
  3. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the applicator element is made as a single piece by molding.
  4. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the applicator element is fitted to the stalk of the applicator.
  5. A device according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized by the fact that the applicator element is integrally formed with the stalk of the applicator.
  6. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that said wall is connected over all or part of its height to front and rear portions or to lateral portions of the applicator.
  7. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that said wall (14) is substantially plane.
  8. A device according to any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized by the fact that said wall (91) is folded.
  9. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the thickness of said wall is less than the thickness of the support, so as to leave cavities (17) overlying the support and in which the substance can accumulate.
  10. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that said wall (31) has ramifications (32, 33).
  11. A device according to the preceding claim, characterized by the fact that said ramifications (32, 33) are at different orientations.
  12. A device according to either one of the two immediately preceding claims, characterized by the fact that each of said ramifications (32, 33) has an edge provided with notches for applying the substance to the eyelashes.
  13. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the applicator element has a plurality of edges for applying the substance, which edges are so arranged that a hair can come into contact with at least two of them during application.
  14. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the support has a link portion (15) that is off-center interconnecting front and rear portions or lateral portions of the support, between which portions said wall (14) extends.
  15. A device according to any one of claims 1 to 13, characterized by the fact that the support (71) presents a link portion (61) that is central, interconnecting front and rear portions or lateral portions of the support, between which portions said wall extends.
  16. A device according to the preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the applicator element has a plurality of walls (72) interconnecting front and rear portions or lateral portions of the support, each of said walls having an edge that is serrated or provided with spikes (74) for applying the substance to the eyelashes.
  17. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the or each edge serving to apply the substance is substantially contained in an envelope surface (E) interconnecting front and rear portions (11, 12) of the support and bearing thereagainst.
  18. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the applicator element has two rows of teeth (83) on either side of said wall (81).
  19. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the applicator element has a plurality of walls (31, 32, 33) disposed in a flared configuration when the applicator element is observed in cross-section, with each of the walls having at least one edge capable of combing hairs.
  20. A device according to the preceding claim, characterized by the fact that said walls disposed in a flared configuration are arranged in such a manner as to enable a hair to come into contact simultaneously with two adjacent edges during application.
  21. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the applicator element has two edges provided with teeth or spikes for applying the substance to eyelashes, said teeth or spikes being preferably offset axially along the longitudinal axis of the support.
  22. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the applicator element (300) has a wall supporting teeth or spikes (319) that are curved outwards alternately to one side and the opposite side of the plane of said support (314).
  23. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that said wall (114) has axial ends (114a, 114b) that are free.
  24. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that said wall (214) is connected to the support via bridges of material (217) that leave between them gaps (218) in which the substance can accumulate.
  25. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the applicator edge extends in the direction which is substantially parallel to the axis of the stalk.
  26. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the stalk comprises a circular transversal cross section.
  27. A device according to claim 2 and to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the length of the stalk is greater than or equal to 3 cm and that the length of the handle member is greater than or equal to 3 cm.
  28. A device according to claim 2 and any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the handle member comprises a skirt into which extends the stalk.
  29. A device according to the preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the skirt comprises an internal thread.
  30. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the stalk presents at least one portion having a cross section area that is smaller than or equal to a cross section area of the applicator element.
  31. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the stalk is deprived of any relief to engage on a receptacle.
  32. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the support is deprived of any relief to engage on a receptacle.
  33. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the support comprises in cross section a shape that is different from the shape of the wall defining the applicator edge.
  34. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the support comprises an elongated shape in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the stalk.
  35. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the wall is situated between two portions of the support presenting a thickness greater than the thickness of the wall.
  36. A device according to any preceding claim, the wall extending in the longitudinal direction, characterized by the fact that the wall is situated between two portions of the support each presenting in a cross section taken perpendicularly to said longitudinal direction, a shape that is different from the shape of the wall.
  37. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the height of the notches is smaller than the height of the wall extending between the bottom of the notches and the support.
  38. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the support presents a shaped front portion (11).
  39. A device according to any preceding claim, characterized by the fact that the wall is linked to a front portion (11) of the support.
  40. A device according to any one of claims 1 to 15, characterized by the fact that the wall is spaced from a front portion (11) of the support.
