    Claims (10)

    1. Handling apparatus for fitting a heat-shrinkable plastic sleeve (17) on a palettized load, and comprising:
      means for placing the flexible packaging sleeve (17) on the load (1) placed on the support palette (2),
      means for folding the bottom end of the sleeve (17) by suction under the plane in which the support palette (2) is placed,
      and means for shrinking by emitting hot air to the lateral surface of the sleeve (17) to be shrunk,
      characterized in that it comprises:
      a first set of actuating means (7) co-operating with moving transfer chains (3) placed under the slats (11) of the support palette (2),
      a second set of actuating means (13) co-operating with handling pads (9) located in the gap arranged between the transfer chains (3), and designed to press against the bottom surface of the planks of the palette (2) without interfering with the longitudinal and/or transverse slats (11),
      and an operating mechanism of the two sets of actuating means (7, 13) to hold the transfer chains (3) against the slats (11) when the handling pads (9) are separated from the planks of the palette (2), and reciprocally to hold the handling pads (9) against said planks in the separated position of the transfer chains (3) allowing the bottom end of the sleeve (17) to be sucked underneath the slats (11) without lifting the load (1) which remains at the same level all the time.
    2. Handling apparatus for fitting a heat-shrinkable plastic sleeve (17) according to claim 1, characterized in that the actuating means (7, 13) are formed by cams fitted on at least one shaft (6) driven in rotation by a motor (8).
    3. Handling apparatus for fitting a heat-shrinkable plastic sleeve (17) according to claim 2, characterized in that the shaft (6) is coupled directly to the motor (8).
    4. Handling apparatus for fitting a heat-shrinkable plastic sleeve (17) according to claim 2, characterized in that the shaft (6) is coupled to the motor (8) by means of a kinematic transmission system.
    5. Handling apparatus for fitting a heat-shrinkable plastic sleeve (17) according to one of the claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the folding means comprise a fan (14) associated with a telescopic suction sleeve situated between the handling pads (9), said sleeve being arranged to direct the hot air in a substantially constant direction, urging the bottom end of the film (17) sucked under the slats (11) of the palette (2).
    6. Handling apparatus for fitting a heat-shrinkable plastic sleeve (17) according to claim 5, characterized in that the telescopic sleeve is formed by a first fixed skirt (15) of the fan (14) securedly affixed to the frame (4) of the transfer chains (3), and a second mobile skirt (16) joined tothe handling pads (9).
    7. Handling apparatus for fitting a heat-shrinkable plastic sleeve (17) according to claim 6, characterized in that the cylindrical second skirt (16) has a larger diameter than that of the first skirt (15) and is mounted coaxially therewith.
    8. Handling apparatus for fitting a heat-shrinkable plastic sleeve (17) according to one of the claims 2 to 7, characterized in that the motor (8) comprises means for reversing the direction of rotation so as to blow the air towards the inside to smooth the sleeve out (17) and separate it from the palette (2) when the motor (8) is running in a predetermined direction, and then to create a negative pressure inside the sleeve (17) to shape the bottom end of said sleeve under the slats (11) when the motor (8) is running in the reverse direction in the heat-shrinking phase.
    9. Handling apparatus for fitting a heat-shrinkable plastic sleeve (17) according to claim 8, characterized in that the negative pressure inside the sleeve (17) is obtained by means of a first suction when the hot air generator support frame is moved downwards in the direction of the bottom end of the sleeve (17), and of a second suction, stronger than the first one, during the shrinking phase of said end.
    10. Handling apparatus for fitting a heat-shrinkable plastic sleeve (17) according to claim 8 or 9, characterized in that the beginning of the first suction precedes the heating phase for shrinking of said end of the sleeve (17).
