Date Apr. 3, 1997A heel-operated device of a foot pedal-actuated instrument of a drum set enables a user to play two instruments of the drum set using the same foot to actuate separate foot pedals. One foot pedal controls the play of one instrument and another foot pedal controls the play of the second instrument of the drum set. At least one of the two instruments is a drum, and the other may be cymbals or bell or another drum. The heel-operated device includes a heel-actuated member, a rod hinged at one end of the heel-actuated member and pivotally coupled to one foot pedal for depression thereof by pressure of the heel of a foot of the user on the heel-actuated member to play the first instrument while allowing the tip of the same foot of the user freedom to operate the other foot pedal for actuating the second instrument. The base member is hinged to an end of the heel-actuated member opposite the end thereof at which the rod is hinged, to provide stability of the heel-operated device during play of the drum set.

Description

The present invention relates to a device called heeling allowing to trigger with the heel part of a battery music, and more particularly a device allowing to trigger with the heel a pedal of part of a music battery, without preventing use normal pedal, i.e. with the whole foot or with the tiptoe only.

Usually, in the field of music drums, the right foot operates the pedal of a battery part of music, for example a bass drum, and the left foot press the pedal of another part of the battery, for example a hi-hat pedal that has two cymbals. This for a right-handed user and vice versa for left-handed user. For the case, for example, where the battery consists of a bass drum and hi-hat cymbals, and in case is it intended for right-handers, a pedal is arranged for the right foot and operates a bat which strikes the skin of the bass drum. A second pedal is arranged for the foot left and operates a bat which strikes the skin of the bass drum. A hi-hat pedal is placed next to the second bass drum pedal and is intended to be operated by the left foot.

Known forms of music drums have a significant drawback when two pedals are intended to be operated by the same foot, a second pedal bass drum and a hi-hat pedal for example which is constituted by the fact that the user must choose to activate either one of the pedals, these forms of execution known not allowing the user to operate these two pedals simultaneously.

One embodiment is known from US-A-3,747,464, which shows the use of two pedals with the same foot, especially by activating the pedal of a kick drum with the heel, but this embodiment has the disadvantage to be very difficult to use in a practical way in the since it does not contain any element allowing to activate two pedals simultaneously in a valid way, and in the since it does not allow valid control of the force of typing.

The object of the present invention therefore consists in remedying the disadvantages of known forms of execution.

The object is achieved with the principle of the invention such as defined by claim 1.

The device called heeling allowing to trigger with the heel a pedal of part of a music battery is to upgrade a pedal from a drum cell so that it can be operated either by the heel, either by the toe, or by the entire foot. The device consists of a device for the heel, called a heel, which is attached to one of the pedals of a drum instrument, by example on the second pedal of a kick drum. Applied to the second pedal of a bass drum which is placed next to a hi-hat pedal, the principle of the invention allows the user to play simultaneously or alternately with the second bass drum pedal and with hi-hat pedal. More precisely, the principle of the invention allows the user to operate the second pedal of a kick drum either simply with the tip of the foot, or with the heel which in this case allows him to keep tiptoe on the pedal Charleston. The user can therefore simulate both pedals which saves him time since he does not have to no longer move the foot from one pedal to another, and what allows to execute new musical phrases which would not be not possible without the device. The device can be fixed on a pedal, but it can also be integrated into a pedal manufacturing, for example by molding.

The accompanying drawings illustrate schematically and by way of of example the principles of the invention.

Figure 1 is a top view of a pedal with the heel device.

Figure 2 is a perspective side view of the pedal with the heel device.

Referring to Figures 1 and 2, the device has four pieces of metal connected together, a base 3, a rod 1 which is intended to connect the base to a pedal using a jaw 2 and a half-tube 4 which is fixed on the base on the one hand and on the stem on the other hand. Rod 1 and base 3 are connected between them by a hinge which allows the rod to be mobile and move with the pedal to which it is attached. A clearance is provided between the jaw which is fixed on the top of the pedal and stem 1 so as to prevent the two elements from can hang on. The half-tube 4 is fixed by hinges to the rod 1 and to the base 3. The half-tube is therefore mobile and can move with the rod.

In practice, the user can apply pressure with the heel on the half-tube, which via the rod will cause the pedal to drop. The pedal is reset high position by a spring which is already mounted on the pedal of each drum instrument. While pressing on the half-tube with the heel, the user can activate another pedal, for example a hi-hat pedal with tiptoe. In case he does not use the hi-hat pedal, he can operate the pedal fitted with the device, either with the heel or the foot on the half-tube, either with the tip of the foot on the pedal.

The device can be adapted to all pedals instruments from a music drum, for example a pedal kick drum, hi-hat pedal, or pedal for activate bells.
