Claims (21)

  1. Ein Computersystem, das folgendes umfaßt:
    ein DASD auf einem rotierenden Speichermedium, um digitale Daten zu empfangen, speichern und übertragen, wobei das genannte DASD eine erste vorbestimmte Anzahl an Zylindern und eine zweite vorbestimmte Anzahl an Köpfen besitzt, wobei jeder der genannten Zylinder in eine dritte vorbestimmte Anzahl an Sektoren aufgeteilt ist und die genannten Köpfe mit den Sektoren der Zylinder digitale Daten austauschen,
    wobei das genannte DASD die Speicherstellen der digitalen Daten unter Verwendung von Adressierungsdaten für die Speicherung in Zylinder/Kopf/Sektor definiert,
    wobei die genannten Zylinder und die genannten Köpfe und die genannten Sektoren zusammen eine Speicherkapazität für das genannte Gerät definieren, die über 528 482 304 Bytes digitaler Daten liegt,
    einen Mikroprozessor zur Verarbeitung digitaler Daten, wobei der genannte Mikroprozessor unter Verwendung der Adressierungsdaten für den Speicherplatz in Zylinder/Kopf/Sektor den Austausch digitaler Daten mit dem DASD steuert, und
    ein Steuerprogramm, auf das der Mikroprozessor zugreifen kann, um den Fluß digitaler Daten zum und aus dem DASD zu steuern,
    wobei der genannte Mikroprozessor auf das genannte Steuerprogramm zugreift, das genannte Steuerprogramm lädt und unter der Steuerung des genannten Steuerprogramms arbeitet,
    wobei das genannte Steuerprogramm mit dem genannten Mikroprozessor und dem genannten DASD zusammenarbeitet,
    um im genannten DASD die erste vorbestimmte Anzahl an Zylindern abzufragen,
    um festzulegen, daß die genannte erste vorbestimmte Anzahl an Zylindern die Zahl 1 024 übersteigt,
    um wiederholt die genannte erste vorbestimmte Zahl durch zwei zu teilen, bis der Quotient niedriger ist als 1 024, während die Anzahl (N) der Wiederholungen dieser Division registriert wird,
    zur Einrichtung eines ersten Referenz-Frame zur Aufzeichnung von Zylinder-/Kopf-/Sektor-Daten, wobei der genannte erste Referenz-Frame einen Umfang von bis zu 1024 Zylindern und einen Umfang von bis zu 256 Köpfen aufweist,
    zur Einrichtung eines zweiten Referenz-Frame zur Aufzeichnung von Zylinder-/Kopf-/Sektor-Daten, wobei der genannte zweite Referenz-Frame einen Umfang von mehr als 1024 Zylindern und einen Umfang von bis zur genannten zweiten vorbestimmten Anzahl an Köpfen aufweist, und
    zur Umwandlung digitaler Daten zur Speicheradressierung, die zwischen dem genannten ersten und zweiten Referenz-Frame ausgetauscht werden, um den Austausch von Daten mit der vollständigen Speicherkapazität des genannten DASD zu ermöglichen, wobei diese Umwandlung unter Verwendung der Anzahl (N) an Wiederholungen der Division der genannten ersten vorbestimmten Anzahl durch zwei erreicht wird.
  2. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 1, das weiterhin ein Speicherelement für den Empfang und die Speicherung des genannten Steuerprogramms umfaßt, wobei das genannte Speicherelement mit dem genannten Mikroprozessor so verbunden ist, daß es auf das genannte Steuerprogramm zugreifen kann.
  3. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 2, in dem das genannte Speicherelement einen ROM-Speicher umfaßt.
  4. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 2, in dem das genannte Speicherelement einen nichtflüchtigen RAM-Speicher umfaßt und in dem das genannte Computersystem eine elektrische Energiequelle umfaßt, die mit dem genannten nichtflüchtigen RAM-Speicher so verbunden ist, daß sie den genannten nichtflüchtigen RAM-Speicher mit Energie versorgt und das Steuerprogramm darin gespeichert hält.
  5. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 1, in dem der genannte DASD in das Laufwerk integriert ist und in dem der genannte Mikroprozessor und das genannte Steuerprogramm in den genannten DASD integriert sind.
  6. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 1, das weiterhin ein Motherboard zur Aufnahme und Verbindung elektrischer Komponenten des genannten Computersystems, einen Eingabe-/ Ausgabekanal im genannten Motherboard und einen Kanalanschluß umfaßt sowie eine DASD-Controller-Karte, die in den genannten Kanalanschluß eingesteckt ist, sowie weiterhin in dem der genannte Mikroprozessor in die genannte Controller-Karte eingesteckt ist und das genannte Steuerprogramm auf der genannten Controller-Karte gespeichert ist, so daß der genannte Mikroprozessor auf das genannte Steuerprogramm zugreifen kann.
  7. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 1, das weiterhin ein Motherboard zur Aufnahme und Verbindung elektrischer Komponenten des genannten Computersystems und in dem der genannte Mikroprozessor in das genannte Motherboard eingesteckt ist und in dem das genannte Steuerprogramm auf dem genannten Motherboard gespeichert ist, so daß der genannte Mikroprozessor auf das genannte Steuerprogramm zugreifen kann.
  8. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 7, in dem der genannte Mikroprozessor der Systemprozessor für das genannte Computersystem ist, wobei das genannte Computersystem weiterhin ein BIOS-Programm umfaßt und das genannte Steuerprogramm in das genannte BIOS-Programm eingebettet ist.
  9. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 1, in dem das genannte Steuerprogramm, das mit dem genannten Mikroprozessor und dem genannten DASD funktioniert, die Umwandlung der digitalen Daten der CHS-Speicheradresse durchführt, indem es die Anzahl der Zylinder und die Anzahl der Köpfe für den zweiten Referenz-Frame ableitet, indem es eine Anzahl von Zylindern des ersten Referenz-Frame mit 2N multipliziert und eine Anzahl an Köpfen des ersten Referenz-Frame durch die zweite vorbestimmte Anzahl an Köpfen dividiert.
  10. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 1, in dem das genannte Steuerprogramm, das mit dem genannten Mikroprozessor und dem genannten DASD funktioniert, die Umwandlung der digitalen Daten der CHS-Speicheradresse durchführt, indem es die Anzahl der Zylinder und die Anzahl der Köpfe für den ersten Referenz-Frame ableitet, indem es eine Anzahl von Zylindern des zweiten Referenz-Frame durch 2N dividiert und eine Anzahl an Köpfen des zweiten Referenz-Frame mit 2N multipliziert.
  11. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 1, in dem das genannte Steuerprogramm, das mit dem genannten Mikroprozessor und dem genannten DASD funktioniert, die Umwandlung der digitalen Daten der CHS-Speicheradresse durchführt, indem es die Anzahl der Zylinder und die Anzahl der Köpfe für den zweiten Referenz-Frame ableitet, indem es eine Anzahl von Zylindern des ersten Referenz-Frame mit 2N multipliziert und eine Anzahl an Köpfen des ersten Referenz-Frame durch die zweite vorbestimmte Anzahl an Köpfen dividiert.
  12. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 1, in dem das genannte Steuerprogramm, das mit dem genannten Mikroprozessor und dem genannten DASD funktioniert, die Umwandlung der digitalen Daten der CHS-Speicheradresse durchführt, indem es die Anzahl der Zylinder und die Anzahl der Köpfe für den ersten Referenz-Frame ableitet, indem es eine Anzahl von Zylindern des zweiten Referenz-Frame durch 2N dividiert und eine Anzahl an Köpfen des zweiten Referenz-Frame mit 2N multipliziert.
  13. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 6, wobei auf der genannten DASD-Controller-Karte ein Mikroprozessor sitzt.
  14. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 13, wobei auf der genannten DASD-Controller-Karte ein Speicherelement für den Empfang und die Speicherung des genannten Steuerprogramms enthalten ist, das mit dem genannten Mikroprozessor so verbunden ist, daß der genannte Mikroprozessor auf das genannte Steuerprogramm zugreifen kann.
  15. Ein Computersystem gemäß allen obigen Ansprüchen, das weiterhin folgendes umfaßt:
    einen hochschnellen Mikroprozessor zur Verarbeitung digitaler Daten, wobei der genannte Mikroprozessor einen realen und geschützten Betriebsmodus hat und elektrisch mit einem hochschnellen Datenbus verbunden ist;
    einen nichtflüchtigen Speicher, der elektrisch mit einem langsameren Datenbus verbunden ist;
    einen Bus-Controller zur Herstellung einer Verbindung zwischen dem hochschnellen Datenbus und dem langsameren Datenbus;
    einen flüchtigen Speicher, der elektrisch mit dem hochschnellen Datenbus verbunden ist; und
    einen Speicher-Controller, der elektrisch sowohl mit dem genannten flüchtigen Speicher als auch mit dem genannten nichtflüchtigen Speicher verbunden ist, wobei der genannte Speicher-Controller den Datenverkehr zwischen dem genannten flüchtigen Speicher und dem genannten nichtflüchtigen Speicher und dem genannten hochschnellen Mikroprozessor regelt.
  16. Ein Computersystem gemäß Anspruch 15, wobei das genannte Steuerprogramm im genannten nichtflüchtigen Speicher gespeichert ist.
  17. Ein Verfahren für das Betreiben eines Computersystems, das folgendes umfaßt:
    ein DASD auf einem rotierenden Speichermedium, um digitale Daten zu empfangen, speichern und übertragen, wobei das genannte DASD eine erste vorbestimmte Anzahl an Zylindern und eine zweite vorbestimmte Anzahl an Köpfen besitzt, wobei jeder der genannten Zylinder in eine dritte vorbestimmte Anzahl an Sektoren aufgeteilt ist und die genannten Köpfe mit den Sektoren der Zylinder digitale Daten austauschen, wobei das genannte DASD die Speicherstellen der digitalen Daten unter Verwendung von Adressierungsdaten für die Speicherung in Zylinder/Kopf/Sektor definiert, wobei die genannten Zylinder und die genannten Köpfe und die genannten Sektoren zusammen eine Speicherkapazität für das genannte Gerät definieren, die über 528 482 304 Bytes digitaler Daten liegt,
    einen Mikroprozessor zur Verarbeitung digitaler Daten, wobei der genannte Mikroprozessor unter Verwendung der Adressierungsdaten für den Speicherplatz in Zylinder/Kopf/Sektor den Austausch digitaler Daten mit dem DASD steuert, und
    ein Steuerprogramm, auf das der Mikroprozessor zugreifen kann, um den Fluß digitaler Daten zum und aus dem DASD zu steuern,
    wobei das Verfahren die folgenden Schritte umfaßt:
    Zugriff auf das Steuerprogramm mit dem Mikroprozessor,
    Laden des Steuerprogramms sowie unter Steuerung des Steuerprogramms,
    Abfrage des DASD nach der ersten vorbestimmten Anzahl an Zylindern,
    Festlegung, daß die genannte erste vorbestimmte Anzahl an Zylindern die Zahl 1 024 übersteigt,
    wiederholte Teilung der genannten ersten vorbestimmten Zahl durch zwei, bis der Quotient niedriger ist als 1 024, während die Anzahl (N) der Wiederholungen dieser Division registriert wird,
    Einrichtung eines ersten Referenz-Frame zur Aufzeichnung von Zylinder-/Kopf-/Sektor-Daten, wobei der genannte erste Referenz-Frame einen Umfang von bis zu 1024 Zylindern und einen Umfang von bis zu 256 Köpfen aufweist,
    Einrichtung eines zweiten Referenz-Frame zur Aufzeichnung von Zylinder-/Kopf-/Sektor-Daten, wobei der genannte zweite Referenz-Frame einen Umfang von mehr als 1024 Zylindern und einen Umfang von bis zur genannten zweiten vorbestimmten Anzahl an Köpfen aufweist, und
    Umwandlung digitaler Daten zur Speicheradressierung, die zwischen dem genannten ersten und zweiten Referenz-Frame ausgetauscht werden, um den Austausch von Daten mit der vollständigen Speicherkapazität des genannten DASD zu ermöglichen, wobei diese Umwandlung unter Verwendung der Anzahl (N) an Wiederholungen der Division der genannten ersten vorbestimmten Anzahl durch zwei erreicht wird.
  18. Ein Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 17, wobei der Schritt zur Umwandlung der digitalen Daten der CHS-Speicheradressierung den Schritt der Ableitung der Zylinder- und Kopfzählung für den zweiten Referenz-Frame umfaßt, indem eine Zylinderzahl des ersten Referenz-Frame mit 2N multipliziert und eine Kopfzahl des ersten Referenz-Frame durch 2N dividiert wird.
  19. Ein Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 17, wobei der Schritt zur Umwandlung der digitalen Daten der CHS-Speicheradressierung die Schritte der Ableitung der Zylinder- und Kopf zählung für den ersten Referenz-Frame umfaßt, indem eine Zylinderzahl des zweiten Referenz-Frame durch 2N dividiert und eine Kopfzahl des zweiten Referenz-Frame mit 2N multipliziert wird.
  20. Ein Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 17, bei dem der Schritt der Umwandlung der digitalen Daten für die CHS-Speicheradressierung folgende Schritte umfaßt:
    Abfrage des Werts von N bei Abgabe eines Plattenlaufwerkbefehls, und danach
    Unterscheidung zwischen einem Wert N gleich Null und einem Wert N größer Null; und danach
    Wenn N gleich Null, dann Weitergabe der Zylinder- und Kopfadresse ohne Umwandlung;
    Wenn N größer Null, dann
    Multiplikation der Zylinderadresse mit 2N, und
    Division der Kopfadresse durch die zweite vorbestimmte Anzahl, und
    Speicherung des verbleibenden Teils der Division der Kopfadresse durch die zweite vorbestimmte Anzahl als umgewandelte Kopfadresse; und danach
    Kombination des Quotienten der Division der Kopfadresse durch die zweite vorbestimmte Anzahl mit der Zylinderadresse durch eine logische ODER-Operation, und Speicherung des Ergebnisses als umgewandelte Zylinderadresse; und danach
    Weiterleitung der Zylinder- und Kopfadresse als umgewandelte Adresse.
  21. Ein Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 17, wobei der Schritt zur Umwandlung der digitalen Daten der CHS-Speicheradressierung den Schritt der Ableitung der Zylinder- und Kopfzählung für den zweiten Referenz-Frame umfaßt, indem eine Zylinderzahl des ersten Referenz-Frame mit 2N multipliziert und eine Kopfzahl des ersten Referenz-Frame durch die zweite vorbestimmte Kopfanzahl dividiert wird.
