Abstract

Described is a pile-fabric floor-covering for sports surfaces, in particular synthetic-grass surfaces. The floor-covering has a substrate sheet which has apertures in it and is therefore permeable to water. Attached to the substrate by needling is a sheet of fibrous material. Also attached to the substrate are pile elements which form the pile. To extend the length of time the floor-covering can be played on after being dampened, the sheet of fibrous material is attached to the underside of the substrate, and tufts of fibres produced when the sheet of fibrous material is needled project up from the sheet of fibrous material through the substrate.

Description

The invention relates to a floor covering designed as pile fabric for sports surfaces, in particular artificial turf, with an opening-bearing and therefore water-permeable carrier web, a fibrous material web needled onto the latter and with pole elements attached to the carrier web and forming the pole with their free end regions. A similar floor covering, which has the features of the preamble of claim 1, is known from DE-A-29 35 387. In particular, the invention relates to such a floor covering of the type mentioned above, in which the pole elements are knitted into the carrier webs.

Known floor coverings in the form of a pile fabric, in particular in the form of artificial turf, are produced as tufted fabrics with a textile carrier web, as a knitted fabric, knitted fabric or the like and then optionally provide the carrier web with a partial or full-area back coating, in the latter case, however, being ensured by openings in the back coating must that the artificial turf is permeable to water; the latter is important because in the case of such a floor covering laid outdoors, rain and melt water must be able to flow down through the floor covering, but also the water applied from above when the floor covering is moistened - in this connection it must be pointed out that optimal example properties of such a floor covering only arise when the surface of the covering is somewhat damp.

Known, water-permeable floor coverings in the form of an artificial turf now dry relatively quickly after moistening, in particular under the influence of the sun and wind Outdoor sports areas.

In this regard, the floor covering for sports surfaces known from DE-A-38 35 880, which is designed as a pile fabric, is also unsatisfactory; it has a water-permeable carrier web, to which upwardly projecting pole elements are attached with their free end regions, as well as under the carrier web and at a distance therefrom a nonwoven web, which is also water-permeable, and in the space between the carrier web and nonwoven web. Web are connected to the latter, approximately hemispherical cushion elements made of closed-cell plastic foam, which should ensure a satisfactory tread elasticity of this known flooring. The space between the carrier web and the nonwoven web left free by these cushioning elements is filled with a granulate filling, which is in particular a mixture of sand and rubber granulate. The nonwoven web and the granulate filling are intended to ensure a certain water retention capacity of this known floor covering, to which the upholstery elements cannot contribute because, as mentioned, they consist of a closed-cell plastic foam. Sand, rubber granulate or a mixture of these two materials can hardly store water, and water retained by the nonwoven web will hardly reach its surface again with this edged flooring, since there is a gap between the nonwoven web and the recorded surface of the flooring non-water-permeable upholstery elements, the lower, flat surfaces of which cover most of the nonwoven web.

It was therefore an object of the present invention to provide a water-permeable floor covering for sports surfaces which is designed as a pile fabric and which, after moistening, has the desired playing characteristics longer than the known artificial turf.

According to the invention, this object can be achieved in that the fiber material web is arranged on the underside of the carrier web and, when the fiber material web is needled, tufts of fiber protrude upward from the fiber material web through the carrier web between the free end regions of the pole elements.

With the floor covering according to the invention, the fibrous material web has a double function: on the one hand, it acts as a water reservoir for water accumulating on the surface of the covering and which has passed down through the water-permeable carrier web, and on the other hand, based on a capillary action, water becomes through the fiber tufts protruding through the carrier web transported by the fibrous material web, which acts as a water reservoir, through the carrier web back into the area of the covering surface as soon as it threatens to dry, especially when the floor covering is being used and pressure is exerted on it from above, resulting in a compression of the fibrous material web in the recorded area. The water storage and retention capacity of the fibrous material web can be selected by an appropriate choice, for. B. determine and select the following parameters: thickness, density and structure of the fiber material web and type of fibers from which it is produced. In the fibrous material web it could, for. B. is a felt or a knitted fabric, but even better results can be achieved with a nonwoven fabric that can store a multiple of its own weight in water.

The needling of a nonwoven fabric on the carrier web of an artificial turf is known per se (DE-A-29 35 387); in this known artificial turf, however, the nonwoven fabric is needled onto the upper side of the carrier web of the artificial turf designed as tufted goods, and the tufts of fibers pushed through the carrier web during the needling of the nonwoven fabric protrude downward from the carrier web between the anchoring feet of the pole elements of this known artificial turf. In this known artificial turf, the nonwoven should serve the purpose of covering the carrier web so that its color is not visible from above, and secondly the fibers pressed through the carrier web from top to bottom have a coating compound applied to the underside of the carrier web a repellent effect on the coating composition, so that the openings in the carrier web required for the water permeability of the artificial turf are at least not completely closed by the back coating composition. The task and arrangement of the nonwoven fabric in this known artificial turf are completely different than in the floor covering according to the invention.

As such, in the manufacture of a floor covering according to the invention, the fibrous material web could be needled onto the carrier web from below before the pole elements, e.g. B. by tufts, are introduced into the carrier web. However, it is more advantageous if a fiber material web is needled from below onto the finished artificial turf when producing a floor covering according to the invention, because then the pole elements have anchoring feet arranged on the underside of the carrier web, which are covered by the fiber material web. In particular, pole elements introduced into the carrier web by tufts are then better fixed in the carrier web, and in addition, the anchoring feet of the pole elements are not subject to the risk of being chafed due to the use of the flooring when laying the flooring on a rough surface. With any type of pile fabric, the fiber tufts pushed through the carrier web and protruding into the area between the pile threads or ribbons also serve to stabilize the actual pile of the floor covering. Finally, the need for the fibrous material web to increase the water permeability of the carrier web.

Due to the effects described above, a floor covering according to the invention can be produced without an adhesive or a back coating material, so that the floor covering according to the invention can be produced as a fully recyclable material. To further simplify recycling of the floor covering, it is advisable to produce the carrier sheet, pile elements and fiber material sheet all from the same plastic, and polypropylene, polyethylene, polyamide and polyester have proven to be particularly cheap raw materials.

Finally, the use of a fiber material web impregnated to stiffen its fibers is recommended. A fiber material web impregnated with a latex emulsion is particularly advantageous, for the following reason: a sports surface floor covering must be replaced after about 5 to 10 years; within such a period of time, however, latex decomposes due to aging and is washed away when the floor covering is sprinkled, so that only pure plastic material has to be worked up when the floor covering is recycled.

Finally, it should be pointed out that the needling of the fibrous material web stabilizes the surface of the Flooring reached and thus the required dimensional accuracy of the flooring can be ensured. If necessary, an additional shape-stabilizing material web can also be needled onto the carrier web or the knitted back at the same time as the fiber material web, e.g. B. a mesh, a nonwoven fabric or the like.

Further features, advantages and details of the invention result from the attached schematic drawing and the following description of a particularly preferred embodiment of the floor covering according to the invention; the drawing shows a section through the floor covering designed as tufted goods.

The drawing shows a carrier web 10 designed as a tufting base fabric, which was produced in the present case from plastic tapes 10a and whose water permeability can be ensured in a variety of ways, e.g. B. by the width and density of the plastic ribbon 10a, d. H. by the transverse spacing of the plastic tapes forming the warp and weft threads from one another. Pole elements 12, the anchoring feet 12 a of which lie on the back of the carrier web 10, were introduced into the carrier web 10 using the tufting process. A nonwoven fabric layer 14 was then needled onto the carrier web 10 from below, as a result of which holes 10b were created in the carrier web 10 and pushed through these fiber tufts 14a. By needling the nonwoven layer 14, not only was it attached to the carrier web 10, but the water permeability of the carrier web was also increased and at the same time it was ensured that water stored in the nonwoven layer 14 by a capillary effect caused by the fiber tufts 14a upward into the area can be conveyed between the pile threads formed by the free end regions of the pile elements 12.
