Definitions
- Such a device is described in documents DE-A 1180453 and FR-A 2495 826. These are single-pole miniature circuit breakers using a movable fork contact, and the placing in series of two extinguishing chambers to increase the power of device shutdown.
- the contact system is not designed to generate electrodynamic repulsion, and the percussion action of the magnetic trip unit is generally used to accelerate the opening of the contacts in the event of a short-circuit current.
- the invention relates to a multipole circuit breaker with common insulating housing and with electrodynamic repulsion for rapid opening of the contacts.
- the electrodynamic repulsion effect results from the passage of a short-circuit current through the contacts shaped according to a current loop. This repulsion results in a separation of the contacts before the intervention of the control mechanism.
- the speed of movement of the movable contact depends both on the shape of the current loop, and on the mass of the movable contact arm. Rapid movement therefore requires either a light movable contact or a complex and expensive copper circuit.
- the choice of a light movable contact nevertheless poses the problem of overheating due to the passage of the arc current in the movable contact.
- a first object of the invention consists in improving the breaking of a multipole circuit breaker with opening by electrodynamic repulsion and with double breaking chamber per pole.
- a second object of the invention consists in making a multipole circuit breaker having a cut-off bulb per pole, with the insertion of various types of arc extinguishing chambers according to the desired breaking capacity.
- the circuit breaker according to the invention is characterized in that the two arc extinguishing chambers comprise a common end sheet, of conductive material, disposed opposite the fixed contacts, and serving both as a shunting of the movable contact at the end of the opening stroke after switching of the arc on said end plate, and of electrical coupling device in series of the two arc extinguishing chambers, that each breaking module is formed by a parallelepipedal plastic bulb, containing the two fixed contacts, the two arc extinguishing chambers, the common end plate, and a pair of connection pads, which the intermediate wall subdivides the interior of the 'bulb in two adjacent compartments, open on the bottom side, and that the movable contact enters the two compartments through a through hole located opposite the bottom.
- Each breaking module is formed by a one-piece parallelepiped plastic bulb, enclosing the two fixed contacts, the two arc extinguishing chambers, the common end plate, and a pair of connection pads.
- the interior of the bulb is subdivided into two adjacent compartments by an insulating wall, and each extinguishing chamber is inserted into the bulb from the bottom, bearing on the edges of the corresponding compartment.
- the common end plate extends over the entire width of the bulb.
- a pole of a multipole circuit breaker 10 with molded insulating housing 12 comprises a single-pole breaking module 14, formed by a one-piece bulb 16 of molded plastic, and having the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped.
- the bulb 16 comprises a bottom 18, a front face 20 having an orifice 22 for the passage of the movable contact 24, two large parallel lateral faces 26, 28 and two small parallel faces 30, 32 for connection.
- the breaking module 14 is of the type with electrodynamic repulsion of the contacts.
- the triggering device comprises a magnetothermal trigger module 46, equipped opposite the pad 44, with a fourth contact pad 48 forming part of the other terminal 50 for connecting the pole.
- the trip module 46 is inserted in series in the pole with the contacts 34, 36, 24 of the cut-off module 14.
- the current returns through the input terminal 40, and flows successively in the range 38, the conductor 35, the fixed contact 34, the movable contact 24, the other fixed contact 36, the conductor 37, the pads 42, 44, the trip unit 46, the contact pad 48 and the output terminal 50.
- the triggering device further comprises a trigger bar 52 mounted with limited rotation between an armed position and a triggered position as a function of the position of the actuator of the trigger 46, for example the bimetallic strip 54 or the pallet 56.
- the rotary bar 52 is moved to the triggered position as soon as the current flowing in the pole exceeds a predetermined threshold.
- Trigger bar 52 cooperates on the other hand, with a latch 58 for attaching a control mechanism 60 to toggle joint 62 and to lever 64.
- the mechanism 60 is common to all of the poles, and is housed in the housing 12 between a pair of metal support plates 66, only the handle 64 being accessible from the outside by passing through a passageway of the housing 12, for circuit breaker control 10.
- the lower link 80 of the toggle joint 62 is coupled to a protuberance 81 of a switching bar 82 serving to support the movable contacts 24 of all the poles.
- the switching bar 82 is made of insulating material and extends parallel to the trigger bar 52 in the transverse direction of the poles.
- the unlocking order of the lock 58 can come from the magnetothermal trigger module 46, or from an auxiliary trigger, in particular with a lack of voltage MN, with emission of current MX, differential, etc.
- Each cut-off module 14 contains two arc extinguishing chambers 84, 86, being in communication with an opening or channel 88 for exhaust of the cut-off gases towards the outside of the bulb 16.
- Each extinguishing chamber arc 84, 86 is formed by a stack of deionization plates with V-notches oriented towards the movable contact 24.
- the switching bar 82 shown in detail in FIG. 4, is equipped with three movable contacts 24, distributed at regular intervals along the transverse direction of the bar 82.
- Each movable contact 24 has the form of a fork cooperating in the closed position with the two fixed contacts 34, 36.
- each bulb 16 comprises a pair of U-shaped notches 90, oriented on the side of the front face 20, and serving as bearings for the switching bar 82.
- each breaking module 14 The interior of the bulb 16 of each breaking module 14 is subdivided by an insulating wall 92 intermediate into two adjacent compartments 94, 96 open on the bottom side 18.
- the movable fork contact 24 enters the two compartments 94, 96 through the orifice 22 located opposite the bottom 18, and is positioned astride the wall 92.
- the fixed contact 34 and the arc extinguishing chamber 84 are housed in the first compartment 94.
- the other fixed contact 36 and the arc extinguishing chamber 96 are in the second compartment 96.
- Each fixed contact 34, 36 is extended in the compartment 94, 96 associated by a metal electrode 98, 100 serving as an arc horn, which is arranged opposite the connecting conductor 35, 37.
- the two electrodes 98, 100 are rectilinear and extend parallel to each other, being separated by the insulating wall 92.
- the two arc extinguishing chambers 84, 86 have a common end plate 102, which extends over the entire width of the bulb 16 on the side of the exhaust opening 88.
- the insulating wall 92 s 'extends in the median plane of the bulb 16 and is perpendicular to the metal end plate 102 without passing through it.
- the end sheet 102 has two notches 104, 106 in a V aligned respectively with the notches of the elementary sheets of the chambers 84, 86.
- the two arc extinguishing chambers 84, 86 with deionization sheets, are surrounded by the common end sheet 102, and the two electrodes 98, 100.
- the two connecting conductors 35, 37 are arranged at the outside of the bulb 16 in housings provided in large lateral faces 26, 28.
- the direction of flow of the nominal current is represented by the arrows in FIG. 5.
- the current flows through the conductor of link 35 to the fixed contact 34, then circulates in the movable contact 24 in a fork passing from the first compartment 94 to the second compartment 96. It emerges from the bulb 16 towards the second connection pad 42 via the fixed contact 36 , and the connecting conductor 37.
- the nominal current flows neither in the electrodes 98, 100, nor in the end sheet 102.
- the arc current successively travels through the electrode 98 and the first extinguishing chamber 84 in the first compartment 94, then crosses the end sheet 102 in the transverse direction of the bulb 16 to circulate in the second compartment 96 through the extinguishing chamber 86, the electrode 100 and the fixed contact 36.
- the two arc extinguishing chambers 84, 86 are electrically connected in series by the passage of the current arc in the sheet 102. This results in effective cooling of the arc and rapid extinction of the latter.
- Arc guide cheeks are integrated into the side walls, delimiting the two compartments 94, 96 juxtaposed with the bulb 16. These cheeks are made of insulating material resistant to arc action, this material being different from that used for the rest of the one-piece bulb 16.
- the arc extinguishing chambers 84, 86 are supported on flanges 110 of the bulb 16, after insertion through the bottom 18. These chambers 84, 86 comprise several interchangeable types as a function of the desired breaking capacity.
- the end sheet 102 can be pierced with holes 112 (see FIG. 6), making the outlet of the chambers 84, 86 communicate with the opening 88 for exhaust of the cutting gases.
