Definitions
- the invention relates to a device according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the liquid to be applied can be, for example, a glue suspension with which the paper web is impregnated; i.e. the glue suspension penetrates more or less completely into the interior of the paper web.
- the liquid can also be a coating slip; This means a wide variety of pigment suspensions from which a cover layer is formed on the paper web. In both cases, the liquid can be applied to only one side of the paper web or to both sides of the paper web.
- the invention is based on document 2. From document 1, a method and a device are known which have two application units arranged one behind the other in the direction of rotation of the application roller for applying Includes coating color connection on a fibrous web, each application unit having a metering knife designed as a blade.
- document 2 there is also shown a device in which two application rollers are provided which form a nip with one another through which a paper web runs.
- a nozzle applicator is assigned to each of the application rollers, each applying a coating color film to the outer surface of the roller in question.
- the nozzle applicator has a nozzle with two nozzle lips, one of which carries a roller doctor blade at its free end, which is a rod with a grooved outer surface. A metered application of coating color to the outer surface of the roller in question is thus possible.
- Both methods have already been combined with one another by first impregnating the paper web with a primer in a first device and then coating it with a coating color in a post-coat.
- the above-mentioned document (8) describes a coating machine in which a primer is first applied to a paper web by means of an application roller. The paper web wraps around a counter roller in the usual way. After a certain rotation angle, another application station carries - in this case a so-called SDTA station (coating station with short dwell time) - another layer on top of the first layer. As such, this SDTA station has a doctor blade in its run-off area - where the paper web leaves the SDTA station. A little further follows an end doctor blade, which in turn is a doctor blade.
- the invention has for its object to design a device according to the preamble of claim 1 such that the largest possible amount of coating color can be applied to a paper web without subsequent devices, that the coat weight is uniform across the web width, and that the coating surface is uniform is.
- the invention further relates to a method for applying coating color to a fibrous web according to claim 12.
- the inventor first recognized that he had to start from a device according to the generic term; this is because the line is not applied directly to the paper web, but first placed on the outer surface of an application roller. He also recognized that the use of roller doctor blades as scraper elements is indispensable, at least for a commissioned work, and that the blade-shaped doctor blades are absolutely harmful to the coating result. A certain smoothing and solidification of the first stroke is achieved by using roller doctor blades, especially in the first nozzle applicator. This gives the first stroke a certain stability, so that its surface structure is no longer destroyed by the subsequent second line applied to it.
- the application device shown in Figure 1 has two application rollers, two nozzle applicators 31, 41, two nozzle chambers 32, 42, each a machine-wide nozzle lip 13, 23, a metering doctor 8, 8 and a coating color channel 39, 49.
- the two application rollers run in Arrows P around.
- a paper web 9 is passed through the nip formed between the two rollers.
- the two nozzle chambers 32, 42 receive a coating color stream from pumps, not shown. A part of this stream reaches the nozzle and thus to its outlet, where it is metered by the metering doctor 8 in question and deposited as a film on the lateral surface of the roller in question. A smaller part passes over to the other nozzle lip as excess flow and arrives in the collecting channel 39, 49 in question.
- the first film from the nozzle applicator 31 is placed on the outer surface of the roller 30, while the second film from the applicator 41 is placed on the former film.
- the two coating color films then migrate together with the outer surface of the roller 30 to the nip which is formed between the rollers and thus to the side of the paper web shown on the left in the drawing.
- the embodiment according to FIG. 4 provides a paired, symmetrical arrangement of the nozzle applicator units.
- the special feature of the embodiment according to FIG. 4 is that the two coating stations have lips, each of which has a doctor blade at its free ends.
- the nozzle chambers are thus - seen in the running direction - delimited on both sides by a roller doctor.
- the nozzle applicator according to the invention offers interesting possibilities which go beyond the application of two coating color films to the outer surface of the roller in question.
- the first application unit after the roll nip with a liquid (release liquid) which has the property of repelling a coating color film, in any case not having any connection with it.
- the liquid would have the property of adhering to the steel shell of the roller.
- this would be the application unit 31.
- Loading such a release liquid would have the advantage that the paper web 9 with the coating color film on it would be easily removed from the nip without traces of the coating color film on the outer surface of the roller 30 remained stuck.
- the release film could also be chemically structured such that he gives the subsequent coating color film an even smoother surface than the outer surface of the roller 30 could do.
- nozzle applicators can be arranged on a single roller, i.e. three or more nozzle applicators.
- the outer layer can be soft and resilient so that it can be smoothed easily. It can also be tough and scratch resistant, etc.
- doctor-like elements come into consideration as the metering doctor. If it is a rod, it can be rotatably mounted and also have a drive. It can have circumferential grooves, but this is not mandatory. The circumferential grooves can optionally be formed from wires. However, the doctor blade can also be formed from a blade that is either completely stiff or compliant. The blade can also be grooved or serrated in the work area.
- At least one of the nozzle applicators is provided with a doctor rod with a smooth outer surface.
- This outer surface can be chrome-plated, for example.
- the rod can be made of glass or ceramic or have a glass or ceramic jacket. All other highly wear-resistant materials can also be considered.
- the rod is easily interchangeable, so that rods of different diameters can be used.
- the application volume or coat weight depends on the contact pressure.
- the coat weight decreases with increasing contact pressure.
- the dependency follows a hyperbole. Different hyperbola shapes can be achieved with different doctor rod diameters.
- an indirect application is first carried out by coating the outer surface of a roller with coating ink in the usual manner by means of a nozzle applicator, and this coating ink film being brought to the paper web by the circulation of this roller. After receiving this coating color film, the paper web is then passed around a further roller and receives another coating color film there in the direct application process. This variant is shown in FIG. 5.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device according to the preamble of claim 1.
Devices of this type can be located inside or outside a paper making machine. The invention is based on document 2. From document 1, a method and a device are known which have two application units arranged one behind the other in the direction of rotation of the application roller for applying Includes coating color connection on a fibrous web, each application unit having a metering knife designed as a blade.
In document 2 there is also shown a device in which two application rollers are provided which form a nip with one another through which a paper web runs. A nozzle applicator is assigned to each of the application rollers, each applying a coating color film to the outer surface of the roller in question. The nozzle applicator has a nozzle with two nozzle lips, one of which carries a roller doctor blade at its free end, which is a rod with a grooved outer surface. A metered application of coating color to the outer surface of the roller in question is thus possible.
There are two fundamentally different goals in the technique of coating: on the one hand, there is the so-called impregnation, whereby only a small amount of coating color per unit area is applied to the paper web. The amount is generally so small that it is completely absorbed by the paper web. On the other hand, we know the application of coating color in a much larger dosage; a part of the coating color is sucked up by the paper web, while another part of the coating color is deposited on the surface of the paper web and forms a more or less strong layer on the paper web.
Both methods have already been combined with one another by first impregnating the paper web with a primer in a first device and then coating it with a coating color in a post-coat. The above-mentioned document (8) describes a coating machine in which a primer is first applied to a paper web by means of an application roller.
An attempt is therefore made to apply a double stroke to a circulating paper web. However, the technological result both by the method and with the device according to document (8) and document (1) is unsatisfactory. It has been shown that the stroke thus obtained is in no way uniform. The line width is neither uniform, nor is the surface of the last line perfect and even. The reasons for this are in the dark.
The invention has for its object to design a device according to the preamble of claim 1 such that the largest possible amount of coating color can be applied to a paper web without subsequent devices, that the coat weight is uniform across the web width, and that the coating surface is uniform is.
This object is solved by the characterizing features of claim 1.
The invention further relates to a method for applying coating color to a fibrous web according to claim 12.
The inventor first recognized that he had to start from a device according to the generic term; this is because the line is not applied directly to the paper web, but first placed on the outer surface of an application roller.

The application device shown in Figure 1 has two application rollers, two
Thus two coating color films are applied. The first film from the
The embodiment according to FIG. 4 provides a paired, symmetrical arrangement of the nozzle applicator units.
The special feature of the embodiment according to FIG. 4 is that the two coating stations have lips, each of which has a doctor blade at its free ends. The nozzle chambers are thus - seen in the running direction - delimited on both sides by a roller doctor.
The nozzle applicator according to the invention offers interesting possibilities which go beyond the application of two coating color films to the outer surface of the roller in question.
For example, it is possible to load the first application unit after the roll nip with a liquid (release liquid) which has the property of repelling a coating color film, in any case not having any connection with it. Instead, the liquid would have the property of adhering to the steel shell of the roller. In FIG. 1, this would be the
In addition, of course, more than two nozzle applicators can be arranged on a single roller, i.e. three or more nozzle applicators.
Another interesting possibility offered by the invention is to "construct" the entire coating application, so that the application has very different properties when viewed in cross-section. For example, the outer layer can be soft and resilient so that it can be smoothed easily. It can also be tough and scratch resistant, etc.
In principle, all doctor-like elements come into consideration as the metering doctor.
According to a further concept of the invention, at least one of the nozzle applicators is provided with a doctor rod with a smooth outer surface. This outer surface can be chrome-plated, for example. The rod can be made of glass or ceramic or have a glass or ceramic jacket. All other highly wear-resistant materials can also be considered.
It is important here that the rod is easily interchangeable, so that rods of different diameters can be used. This has the following meaning: For bars with a smooth surface, the application volume or coat weight depends on the contact pressure. The coat weight decreases with increasing contact pressure. The dependency follows a hyperbole. Different hyperbola shapes can be achieved with different doctor rod diameters.
It may also be expedient for the further application works to use a blade instead of a doctor bar. It cannot be ruled out that subsequent commissioned works work with blades instead of with doctor blades. According to a further idea of the invention, an indirect application is first carried out by coating the outer surface of a roller with coating ink in the usual manner by means of a nozzle applicator, and this coating ink film being brought to the paper web by the circulation of this roller. After receiving this coating color film, the paper web is then passed around a further roller and receives another coating color film there in the direct application process. This variant is shown in FIG. 5.
It is possible to design the embodiments in such a way that all the orders, or at least some of them, can be pivoted away. Depending on requirements, this enables the system to be operated flexibly.
