Description

The present invention relates to a coaxial electrical connector also performing a switching function.

On connaît déjà par exemple par EP-A-0 181 306 des connecteurs coaxiaux qui permettent de commuter une ligne électrique sur une autre ligne électrique lorsque les deux éléments du connecteur sont engagés l'un dans l'autre.EP-A-0 181 306 already discloses, for example, coaxial connectors which make it possible to switch an electrical line to another electrical line when the two elements of the connector are engaged one in the other.

Such connectors are in particular used to connect portable devices to their base while switching electronic functions of the portable device with those of the base, such as for example car radiotelephones.

Known connectors have the significant drawback of not providing good radio isolation between the two power lines to be switched.

The present invention aims to provide a simple and economical coaxial connector which performs a switching function between two power lines while ensuring good radioelectric isolation between them.

Such a coaxial electrical connector comprises, on the one hand, a first connector element comprising a central conductor and an external ground conductor separated by an insulator, and on the other hand, a second connector element comprising a central conductor and a conductor ground which surrounds the central conductor while being separated from the latter by an insulator, as well as a third conductor which is in electrical contact with the central conductor when the two connector elements are uncoupled, the first connector element being arranged for , when it is coupled with the second connector element, separate said central conductor and said third conductor from one another.

The coaxial electrical connector according to the invention is characterized in that, over most of its length, the third conductor of the second connector element is separated from the central conductor by the ground conductor.

In other words, the third conductor of the second connector element is arranged outside the coaxial line defined by the central conductor and the ground conductor.

It is understood that the connector according to the invention provides good radioelectric insulation between the two power lines, one comprising the central conductor and the other the third conductor, insofar as the ground conductor separates these two lines on the largest part of the length of the second connector element.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the ground conductor of the second connector element comprises two sections of different configurations, namely a rear section of semi-cylindrical shape defining a partition extending from the rear face of the connector element up to the point of contact between the central conductor and the third conductor and surrounding the central conductor, and a front section of cylindrical shape defining a partition extending from said point of contact to the front face of the connector element.

In a preferred variant of this embodiment, the rear section of the ground conductor comprises an additional partition which encloses the third conductor in order to protect the electrical signal conveyed, if necessary, by this third conductor.

In order to better understand the invention, we will now describe embodiments given by way of nonlimiting examples of the invention, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a view in axial section of a connector element according to one embodiment,
  • FIG. 2 is a top view of the connector element of FIG. 1,
  • FIGS. 3 and 4 are sectional views along III-III and respectively IV-IV of FIG. 1,
  • FIG. 5 is a view in axial section of a connector element according to a second embodiment,
  • Figure 6 is a top view of Figure 5, and
  • Figure 7 is a sectional view along VII-VII of Figure 6.

The central conductor 2 is terminated at its front end by a female elastic contact 6 intended to receive the male central contact 7 of a complementary connector element 8 which is shown diagrammatically in broken lines in FIG. 1.

The insulator 4 extends forward in the form of a sleeve 4 a which surrounds the female elastic contact 6.

The ground conductor 3 surrounds the central conductor 2 over the entire length of the connector element.

In the sectional views of Figures 3 and 4, we see that the ground conductor 3 has a rear section T a and a front section T b which have different configurations.

The rear section T a of the ground conductor 3, visible in FIG. 3, comprises a lower partition 3 a of circular section and a planar upper partition 3 b , while the front section Tb of the ground conductor 3 consists only of the circular partition 3a that extends over the major part of the periphery of the connector element.

The third conductor 5 extends parallel to the planar upper partition 3 b of the earth conductor 3 and has a contact tab 9 cut in its width which comes to bear, in the rest position, on the female elastic contact 6 of the central conductor 2, when the two complementary connector elements 1 and 8 are uncoupled.

A cet effet, le manchon 4a de l'isolant 4 comporte une lumière 4b permettant le passage de la patte 9.To this end, the sleeve 4 a of the insulation 4 includes a light 4 b allowing the passage of the tab 9.

The third conductor 5 is trapped in the insulation 4 at its rear part and free at its front part where it has a flexible zone 5 a which allows it to deform during the coupling of the two connector elements, its termination in shape spatula 5 b bearing on the chamfered front part 10 of the complementary connector element 8.

Lors de la déformation du troisième conducteur 5, la patte de contact 9 s'écarte du conducteur central 2 et ouvre le circuit électrique constitué par le conducteur central 2 et le troisième conducteur 5.When the third conductor 5 is deformed, the contact tab 9 moves away from the central conductor 2 and opens the circuit electrical consisting of the central conductor 2 and the third conductor 5.

Par ailleurs, lorsque les deux éléments de connecteur 1 et 8 sont engagés complètement l'un dans l'autre, la terminaison en forme de spatule 5b du troisième conducteur 5 peut venir au contact du conducteur de masse extérieur 11 de l'élément de connecteur complémentaire 8.Furthermore, when the two connector elements 1 and 8 are completely engaged one in the other, the spatula-shaped termination 5 b of the third conductor 5 can come into contact with the external ground conductor 11 of the element additional connector 8.

Conformément à l'invention, la plus grande partie de la longueur du troisième conducteur 5 est séparée du conducteur central 2 par le conducteur de masse 3.According to the invention, most of the length of the third conductor 5 is separated from the central conductor 2 by the ground conductor 3.

Thus, the electrical lines respectively comprising the central conductor 2 and the third conductor 5 are electrically uncoupled.

In the embodiment illustrated in Figures 5, 6 and 7, the ground conductor 3 'of the connector element 1' has an additional partition 3 ' c which extends the lower partition 3' a and encloses the third conductor 5 , so that the latter is also isolated from the outside.

In this case, the central conductor 2 and the third conductor 5 are nevertheless separated by the ground conductor 3, the flat part 3 b of which divides the internal volume of the connector element into two parts, as seen in the view in section of figure 7.

In the two embodiments described here, the impedance of each electrical line can be precisely fixed by suitably choosing the dimension of the air gaps 12 and 13 which separate the ground conductor 3.3 ′ from the central conductor 2 and respectively from the third driver 5.

It is understood that the embodiments which have just been described have no limiting character and that they can receive any desirable modifications without departing from the scope of the invention as defined by the claims.
