Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a removable grip adaptable to the existing grips of golf clubs according to the preamble of
Golf clubs comprise, in known manner, a weighted end provided with an attack face of the ball, a rod of variable diameter ending in a handle, generally coated with a non-slip material and sometimes marked with at least one line of location from the end bottom of the non-slip material to the end of the club opposite the weighted end.
It is known that teachers of this sport use in their panoply utensil useful for beginners, but only them, utensil comprising a handle or grip furnished with hollows corresponding to the optimal positions of the fingers of both hands, and, in a complementary manner, bulges corresponding to the interdigital intervals, hereinafter called ribs.
These utensils are only used during the very first lessons, the professor quickly passing to the exercises, called practice, carried out with real clubs with classic grip consisting of a handle coated with a non-slip material, then to the exercises on real course.
- too brief or incomplete learning of the correct position of the fingers,
- taking bad habits once the first lessons are forgotten or imperfectly assimilated,
- resulting decrease in performance with all classic grip clubs consisting of a handle coated with a non-slip material.
Document US-1,664,257 (McCullough) describes a method for transforming a golf club with a normal smooth grip into a grip with hollows and ribs adapted to the position of the fingers. However, this process requires the sacrifice of a club in order to permanently replace the grip, which is a drawback. Removable golf grips coming on a smooth grip, such as that described in documents US Pat.
The invention proposes to remedy these drawbacks by the means described in
The addition, to the classic grip of a club, of an additional removable grip presenting the hollows and ribs adapted to the automatic taking of a correct position by the player getting to the address allows this player to keep effortlessly from memory the position learned during the first lessons, until the final correct habits of position of the hands on the classic grip of clubs, with or without the removable grip object of the present invention.
It is apparent that the advantage of the invention is notably the definitive long-term improvement in player performance, as well as the reduction in course costs for the player and, for the professor, a saving of time and educational efforts. .
The increase in diameter of the grip resulting from the addition of the removable grip object of the invention is without disadvantage from the point of view of the comfort of the player.
Other embodiments are described in the claims appended to the present application.
Several models of removable grip shape may be provided, each adapted to the size, gender, lateralization and more generally to the physiological parameters of the player influencing the shape of the hands and their position on the grip.
Provision may be made for the use of a semi-rigid plastic material for the removable grip which is the subject of the invention, so that it can be pressed properly onto the conventional grip if the latter is of variable diameter; for this purpose, the inside diameter of the removable grip may be slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the conventional existing grip.
- in one piece, having a longitudinal slot along the marking line and capable of opening sufficiently to be clipped onto the part of the club where the rod is of the smallest diameter, to then be brought in by sliding, the slot being always kept open, up to the position provided for the removable grip on the existing classic grip.
- in two parts constituting two half-shells, possibly joined at their end by a flexible or pivoting connection, or failing this comprising lugs to ensure an adequate position of each half-shell with respect to each other, and optionally by compared to the existing classic grip. In this embodiment of the invention, the removable grip is placed directly on the existing conventional grip, without it being necessary to introduce it on the rod of the club on its portion of smallest diameter.
In the two embodiments of the invention, the removable grip is secured to the existing conventional grip, so as to prevent any relative movement with respect to this existing conventional grip, by fixing means known per se.
These fixing means can in particular be a system in which a velcro strip, fixed by one of its ends to the removable grip, for example in its lower part, can be wrapped around the assembly formed by the existing conventional grip and the removable grip once it is in place.
These means can also involve clamping by studs similar to that used in the closure of ski boots, which will be detailed below.
This clamp clamping system consists of a device for bracing a tongue on a notch, allowing, at the moment of clamping and by a simple movement of the hand, to put under a certain pressure the member surrounded by these measures.
This pressure can be variable as in the case of ski boot cleats, which in known manner have a possibility of adjusting the tightening of the boot by the multiplicity of the notches provided.
It can also be unique when there is only one tab and a single bracing notch. Another known means of tightening using this same principle with a unique tight position, without adjustment, is the mechanism for closing hermetic containers, such as hiking bottles or jam jars, by compressing an elastic washer between a cover. and the container.
In a particular embodiment of the invention, the removable grip will be in one piece with a longitudinal slot, with a single clamp tightening its lower part once in place on the handle.
Other possible clamping means include pipe clamps or clam-type cleats in sailboat fittings.
We can preferably choose space-saving means in the "tight" position, so as not to cause unwanted roughness on the club or to cause scratches on sensitive surfaces.
Another tightening means could consist of at least one ring, possibly more or less conical, fitting onto at least one of the ends of the removable grip, of dimensions such that the removable grip is tightened sufficiently tightly on the grip existing classic to avoid any relative movement compared to this existing classic grip during the swing. This ring may be provided with an internal thread, matching an external thread on the corresponding part or parts of the existing conventional grip, as well as a knurling allowing its tightening without tools. This clamping means has the advantage, after tightening, of perfect symmetry with respect to the axis of the club, which guarantees the absence of roughness.
In a special embodiment of the invention in two half-shells, it is possible to articulate the two half-shells in a jaw intended to close on the existing conventional grip. In this way, by positioning the end of one of the half-shells against the end of the existing conventional grip, this half-shell making a certain angle with the existing conventional grip, it is advantageous to be able to insert the end of the second half-shell in that of the first, over the same end of the existing classic grip, then close the two half-shells on the existing classic grip and finally bring a single clamping ring, previously threaded on the rod of the club by the existing conventional grip, in the clamping position of the two still free ends of the two half-shells, which are thus pressed into position against the existing conventional grip. It is obvious that the inside diameter of this ring must be greater than the maximum diameter of the existing classic grip, which is at its end in classic clubs, in order to be able to put it on the club rod beforehand.
It is also possible to provide two rings, one coming to clamp the ends of the two half-shells close to the end of the existing classic grip, and the other coming to tighten the other two ends as described above. This last embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawings.
