Description

The present invention relates to a method and a device for continuously feeding a drum machine for packaging packets of compressible objects, such as for example folded sheets of paper, handkerchiefs and the like, in a thin plastic envelope.

It is known that drum machines for packaging handkerchiefs in packages include a device called a "revolver", which consists of a drum rotating around a horizontal axis, provided with several radial chambers, hereinafter called " revolver pockets ", inside which are inserted individually, in rapid succession, the packs of tissues to be packaged, each of which is fed by a drive chain and suitably compressed before its introduction into the corresponding pocket of the revolver. This introduction is carried out with the simultaneous interposition of a suitable plastic film which is intended to wrap the tissues, that is to say to constitute the envelope, after having been correctly folded around the sides of the package and closed by heat sealing and / or gluing. Given the high rotation speed of the revolver, it is necessary to feed and compress the handkerchiefs at a sufficiently high speed to allow the sequential occupation of all the pockets of the revolver, in order to guarantee an advantageous production capacity of the installation. This leads to the need to synchronize with extremely reduced margins of tolerance the phases of feeding the handkerchiefs, their compression and the successive introduction into the pockets of the revolver, mainly as a function of the peripheral speed of the revolver and of the variation in amount of movement to print on each pack before entering the revolver pockets. All this implies the need to adopt appropriate criteria for managing the installation, both in relation to the methods of choosing the most appropriate operating speeds, and in relation to the maintenance of the various devices and their adjustment, to allow full functional integration and maximum reliability. However, it is well known that the level and frequency of maintenance and adjustment activities of components considerably affects the economic performance of the installation and, consequently, the cost of manufacturing the finished product, it is to say packed. Therefore, even in this sector of industrial techniques, there is a strong need to adopt simplified construction criteria, to improve the reliability of production systems and reduce the corresponding management costs and, with these, the cost manufacturing of the packaged product.

Also known, from patent DE-A-3701273, a device for making packets of paper tissues in plastic envelopes to be rolled up, which comprises: clamp means for compressing the tissues to be packaged, which are fed by a drive chain; means for placing a predetermined quantity of film of suitable plastic material corresponding to each pocket of a revolver; a movable arm, which is slaved to a reciprocating movement in the radial direction relative to the revolver, for introducing each group of handkerchiefs having been compressed into a corresponding pocket and thus making the first winding of the plastic film around the handkerchiefs; means for carrying out the welding of the edges of the plastic film wrapped around the handkerchiefs, both at the front and at the rear, so as to close the envelope; means for extracting the handkerchiefs thus wrapped from the revolver.
But this known device includes stopping each group of handkerchiefs before performing their compression and their successive introduction into the pockets of the revolver, and the return of said compression means in the respective initial operating condition before starting the packaging of a new group of handkerchiefs, that is to say bring them behind the next group of handkerchiefs to be wrapped, which is why the supply of the revolver is discontinuous. Furthermore, the functional structure of said known device does not make it possible to increase the production capacity of the installation, that is to say the frequency of supply of handkerchiefs, beyond a certain value corresponding to the speed of execution of said compression means. In addition, it must be taken into account that the constructive complexity of this known device involves the exercise of intense maintenance activity, which has a negative impact on the cost of manufacturing the packaged product.

Also known from document DE-A-2322878 is a machine for packaging compressible products, such as for example folded handkerchiefs and the like, in a rollable plastic packaging, which comprises a pair of strips of Convergent transport to a device for packaging said objects, which is constituted by a pair of horizontal parallel bands superimposed for driving handkerchiefs. However, this known device also comprises the discontinuous supply of handkerchiefs, due to the stopping of the parallel strips. As a result, the production capacity of the installation cannot be increased beyond a value corresponding to the speed of operation of the conditioning device.

  • comprimer progressivement et sans solution de continuité les paquets à emballer, lesquels sont alimentés par une bande de transport correspondante, et les transférer simultanément vers le revolver d'une machine de conditionnement à tambour, avec vitesse variable de manière cyclique entre une valeur minimum, correspondant à la vitesse de déchargement de la machine qui forme les paquets, et une valeur maximum, d'entrée dans les poches du revolver;
The main object of the present invention is to eliminate the aforementioned drawbacks and to provide a method and a device for the continuous feeding, at the maximum speed allowed, of a drum type packaging machine.
This result was achieved, in accordance with the invention, by adopting a process which comprises, in order, the following phases:
  • gradually compress the packages to be packaged, without any solution of continuity, which are fed by a corresponding conveyor belt, and simultaneously transfer them to the revolver of a drum packaging machine, with variable speed cyclically between a minimum value, corresponding at the unloading speed of the machine which forms the packets, and a maximum value, of entry into the pockets of the revolver;
  • insert individually, in continuous succession, each packet having been thus compressed, in a corresponding pocket of the revolver.

  • des moyens pour comprimer, progressivement et sans solution de continuité, les paquets à emballer alimentés par une bande de transport et les transférer simultanément vers le revolver d'une machine de conditionnement, avec une paire de bandes de transport superposées, convergentes vers le revolver et entraînées par deux rouleaux d'entraînement correspondants, et entre lesquelles sont interposés les paquets, individuellement et en succession continue;
  • un variateur cyclique de la vitesse de déplacement desdites bandes convergentes, lequel est relié, d'un côté, à l'arbre d'un organe moteur et, de l'autre côté, aux arbres desdits rouleaux d'entraînement;
And to implement said method, a device is used comprising:
  • means for compressing, progressively and without a solution of continuity, the packets to be packaged fed by a conveyor belt and simultaneously transferring them to the revolver of a packaging machine, with a pair of superimposed conveyor belts converging towards the revolver and driven by two rollers corresponding drive, and between which the packages are interposed, individually and in continuous succession;
  • a cyclic variator of the speed of movement of said converging belts, which is connected, on one side, to the shaft of a motor member and, on the other side, to the shafts of said drive rollers;
  • means for slaving said compression bands to an alternating rotation of predetermined angular amplitude around the axes of the respective drive rollers.

The advantages obtained thanks to the present invention consist essentially in the fact that it is possible to feed a drum machine for the packaging of packets of compressible objects, especially folded tissues, continuously, that is to say to say without stopping the packets during the phases of compression and introduction into the pockets of the revolver, which makes it possible to obtain the maximum productive capacity of the machine and simultaneously the maximum unloading speed of the machine which forms the packets, by increasing the economic efficiency of the installation and reducing the cost of the packaged product; in that a device according to the invention is economical and simple and reliable to manufacture, and therefore requires extremely low maintenance, which makes it possible to subsequently reduce the cost of managing the installation.

  • comprimer progressivement et sans solution de continuité les paquets (1) à emballer, lesquels sont alimentés par une bande de transport correspondante (10), et les transférer simultanément vers le revolver (2) de la machine, au moyen d'organes de compression et d'entraînement (4) correspondants, avec vitesse variable de manière cyclique entre une valeur minimum (V1), correspondant à la vitesse de déchargement de la machine qui forme les paquets, et une valeur maximum (V2), d'entrée dans les poches (20) du revolver (2);
Reduced to its essential structure and with reference to Figures 1A - 2 of the accompanying drawings, a process for the continuous feeding of a machine for packaging packages of folded tissues, according to the invention, comprises, in the order, the following phases:

  • individually insert, in continuous succession, each of the packages (1) thus compressed, in a corresponding pocket (20) of the revolver (2).
In this way, each packet (1) which has been completely compressed, at the outlet of said means (4), has a sufficient amount of movement to allow its introduction into the corresponding pocket (20) and, at the same time, the winding in an edge of polyethylene (3), which is held adherent on the surface of the revolver (2) so as to be interposed between the exit way of the means (4) and the pockets (20) concerned by the introduction of packages.

Advantageously, in accordance with the invention, to allow complete and easy introduction of the packages (1) into the pockets (20) at the constant speed of rotation of the revolver (2), provision is made for slaving said means (4) to an alternative rotation about an axis parallel to the axis (21) of rotation of the revolver (2), disposed near their entry path, of angular amplitude approximately equal to the time of unloading of a packet ( 1) which has been compressed multiplied by the angular speed of the revolver (2): said rotation being in the opposite direction to that of the revolver (2) in the phase of introduction of the package (1) and respectively in the same direction in the corresponding phase of return to the initial operating condition.

Furthermore, advantageously, provision is made to vary the speed of movement of the means (4) with a sinusoidal law having a period (P) substantially equal to half the time of movement of the packets (1), to allow their progressive compression.
It goes without saying that, in order to make the compression of the packets (1) even more progressive, said speed variation can be carried out according to a sinusoidal law having a period (P) equal to any submultiple of the time of moving packages (1).

  • des moyens pour comprimer, progressivement et sans solution de continuité, les paquets (1) à emballer alimentés par une bande de transport (10) et les transférer simultanément vers le revolver (2) d'une machine de conditionnement, avec une paire de bandes de transport superposées (4), convergentes vers le revolver (2) et entraînées par deux rouleaux d'entraînement (40) superposés, parallèles à l'axe (21) de rotation du revolver (2), bandes (4) entre lesquelles sont interposés les paquets (1), individuellement et en succession continue;
  • des moyens pour varier de manière cyclique la vitesse de déplacement desdites bandes (4) entre une valeur minimum (V1), correspondant à la vitesse de déchargement de la machine qui forme les paquets (1), et une valeur maximum (V2) correspondant à la vitesse d'introduction des paquets (1) dans les poches (20) du revolver (2), avec un variateur de vitesse constitué par une première roue (5), laquelle est fixée sur l'arbre (50) d'un organe moteur correspondant et est munie d'une boutonnière radiale (51) pour permettre sa connexion, au moyen d'un bouton (52), avec une deuxième roue (53), adjacente et parallèle à la première (5), de manière que la roue (5) soit motrice et la roue (53) menée: la roue menée (53) étant à son tour solidaire avec un arbre correspondant (54), lequel passe centralement, fou, à travers le corps du revolver (2) et est relié de l'autre côté à l'arbre du rouleau inférieur d'entraînement (40) au moyen d'une transmission (6) du type à courroie;
With regard to the device for implementing said method, in accordance with the invention and with reference to the figures of the appended drawings, this comprises:
  • means for compressing, progressively and without a solution of continuity, the packages (1) to be packaged fed by a conveyor belt (10) and simultaneously transferring them to the revolver (2) of a packaging machine, with a pair of bands of superimposed transport (4), converging towards the revolver (2) and driven by two superimposed drive rollers (40), parallel to the axis (21) of rotation of the revolver (2), bands (4) between which are interposed the packets (1), individually and in continuous succession;
  • means for cyclically varying the speed of movement of said strips (4) between a minimum value (V1), corresponding to the speed of unloading the machine which forms the packets (1), and a maximum value (V2) corresponding to the speed of introduction of the packets (1) into the pockets (20) of the revolver (2), with a speed variator constituted by a first wheel (5), which is fixed on the shaft (50) of a corresponding drive member and is provided with a radial buttonhole (51) to allow its connection, by means of a button (52), with a second wheel (53), adjacent and parallel to the first (5), so that the wheel (5) is driven and the wheel (53) driven: the driven wheel (53) being in turn secured to a shaft corresponding (54), which passes centrally, crazy, through the body of the revolver (2) and is connected on the other side to the shaft of the lower drive roller (40) by means of a transmission (6) belt type;
  • means for slaving each of said bands (4) to an alternating rotation of predetermined angular amplitude about an axis (41) parallel to the axis (21) of rotation of the revolver (2), with a pair of arms (7 ) parallel and adjacent to the sides of the revolver (2), each of which is articulated centrally on said shaft (54) and is connected, on one side to a connecting rod (8) connected to a crank mechanism (80) actuated by means of the same drive shaft (50) of the variable speed drive and, on the other side, to the shafts of the rollers (40) for driving the belts (4).

The operation of the variable speed drive described above, with reference to Figures 4 - 5E of attached drawings, is as follows.
The rotation of the wheel (5) at constant angular speed around the motor shaft (50) causes the corresponding rotation of the button (52). And, since the button (52) is free to move by translation along the axis of the buttonhole (51), its distance from the shaft (50) is variable during rotation, so that the wheel (53 ) rotates around the axis (21) of the shaft (54) with a variable angular speed cyclically with the angular phase of the wheel (5) according to a law of sinusoidal type. The amplitude and the period (P) of said cyclic variation can be modified at will thanks to the variation of the distances of center distance (x, y) between the wheels (5) and (53) and, respectively, between the button ( 52) and the wheel (53).

Advantageously, in accordance with the invention and with reference to Figures 6A - 6C of the accompanying drawings, a cyclic variator (9) of the angular phase of said rollers (40) is provided to allow the restoration of the longitudinal alignment of the strips (4) during the oscillation of the arms (7).
More precisely, the fact that the rotation of the arms (7) around the axis of the revolver (2) determines the angular phase shift of the rollers (40) and, consequently, the misalignment of the bands (4) with the possibility of deformation of the packets (1) in the compression and progression phase, a variator (9) of the angular phase of the rollers (40) is used, in relation to the angular position (β) arms (7), in order to obtain the constant longitudinal alignment of the bands (4) in each instantaneous position of the latter.

  • une paire de roues dentées (96) adjacentes et à axes parallèles horizontaux, identiques, ayant un diamètre supérieur à celui des rouleaux (40) et dont les moyeux (94, 95) sont reliés au moyens d'une bielle (97), chacune de ces roues (96) coopérant avec un engrenage d'un rouleau (40) correspondant et étant reliée à l'arbre de ce rouleau au moyen d'une bielle (98, 99): l'arbre de la roue (96) supérieure étant solidaire avec le bras (7);
According to the invention, said variator (9) consists of:
  • a pair of adjacent toothed wheels (96) with identical horizontal parallel axes, having a diameter greater than that of the rollers (40) and the hubs (94, 95) of which are connected by means of a connecting rod (97), each of these wheels (96) cooperating with a gear of a corresponding roller (40) and being connected to the shaft of this roller by means of a connecting rod (98, 99): the shaft of the upper wheel (96) being integral with the arm (7);
  • a connecting rod (93) which, on one side, is mounted idly on a shaft (70) orthogonal to the arm (7) and disposed in an intermediate position between the axis (21) of rotation of the revolver (2) and the wheels (96) and, on the other side, is articulated on the lower roller shaft (40): said connecting rod (93) being provided with a shaft parallel to said shaft (70), for supporting the lower wheel (96) .

The operation of the phase variator described above is as follows.
The rotation of the arm (7) around the axis (21) causes the rotation of the connecting rod (93) in the opposite direction around the shaft (70) and, consequently, the transmission of the rotational movement is obtained. belt drive (4), lower roller (40) to the upper roller (40) via the pair of wheels (96) and, simultaneously, the correction of the angular phase of the upper roller (40), which makes it possible to keep the strips (4) aligned longitudinally and, in this way, the handkerchiefs of the packages (1) aligned vertically in the compression phase.
