Description

The invention relates to an offset blanket sleeve for a channelless blanket cylinder for applying a printed image to a sheet or web material.

In offset rotary printing presses, blankets are usually held on the blanket cylinder by means of mechanical fixings. Such a blanket cylinder has an axially extending channel with tensioning segments, in which the opposite ends of the blanket are fastened. This tensioning mechanism results in a tensioning channel embedded in the body of the blanket cylinder, which extends in segments, axially over the width of the cylinder. This tensioning channel interrupts the surface of the blanket cylinder so that a pressure-free zone is created during the rolling movements of the blanket cylinder. Due to the channel, the cylinders rolling on each other are excited to flexural vibrations during the printing process. This affects the print quality negatively.

In order to overcome these difficulties, blanket sleeves for a blanket cylinder without a cylinder channel have already been developed. For example, a rubber blanket sleeve is known from patent specification DE 27 00 118 C2, in which an endless coating made of an elastic material, preferably rubber, was made on an exchangeable carrier sleeve made of plastic or a metallic material. The rubber covering is applied to the carrier sleeve without any gaps or seams. The blanket sleeve produced in this way is then pushed over the blanket cylinder by means of compressed air and fixed thereon by switching off the air supply.

So that the blanket sleeve remains fixed on the blanket cylinder during the printing process, it is designed with an undersize and placed on the blanket cylinder with expansion, so that the blanket sleeve is held by the joint pressure between the blanket cylinder jacket and the inside of the sleeve. The blanket sleeve must therefore be able to absorb considerable circumferential forces. That is why the well-known rubber blanket sleeve is made up of a carrier sleeve with a high modulus of elasticity and a compressible rubber coating, which alone could not absorb the high peripheral forces.

However, such a carrier sleeve is comparatively very expensive, since materials such as nickel, steel or glass fiber reinforced plastic are preferably used to achieve the required properties.

The object of the present invention is therefore to provide an inexpensive blanket sleeve which can absorb high peripheral forces and which, when pushed onto the blanket cylinder, fulfills all the necessary conditions of the known blanket sleeve.

This object is achieved in that the carrier sleeve is constructed in the form of a laminated body, which consists of plastic, preferably rubber as the base material and is reinforced by layered inserts embedded therein. A rubber layer is vulcanized onto the carrier sleeve.

These layer inserts can be made of steel, textile fibers or plastic fibers and form a braid embedded in the base material, preferably rubber, of the carrier sleeve for reinforcement thereof. The sleeve itself can be made in rotation, that is to say endlessly, but can also be produced in the flat state and then welded to the sleeve.

Such a reinforcement, that is to say by embedding a braid in the base material of the carrier sleeve, enables the elasticity-weak plastic, preferably rubber, to be significantly higher Absorb circumferential forces and thus an expensive carrier sleeve made of glass fiber reinforced plastic or a metallic material can be dispensed with.

As usual, such a blanket sleeve has an undersize compared to the blanket cylinder carrying it, and can be pushed onto the blanket cylinder with expansion by means of compressed air and fixed on the circumference of the blanket cylinder by pressing forces when the compressed air is switched off.

Exemplary embodiments are described below with reference to the drawing. It shows a highly schematic:
Fig. 1
a conventional blanket sleeve with carrier sleeve and vulcanized rubber covering,
2 to 4
reinforcement of the carrier sleeve of a rubber blanket sleeve according to the invention,
Fig. 5

Fig. 1 shows again a known blanket sleeve 1, which has a carrier sleeve 2 made of nickel, steel or glass fiber reinforced plastic. A rubber blanket 3 in the form of a rubber covering is vulcanized onto this carrier sleeve 2. This blanket sleeve 1 has a coherent gap-free outer and inner surface. The sleeve 1 is removably mountable on the outer peripheral surface of a blanket cylinder. Since the outer peripheral surface of the sleeve 1 is coherent and gap-free, a bumpless and vibration-free rolling contact is achieved between the rubber blanket 3 and the ink-transferring surfaces of a plate cylinder, not shown.

In contrast, FIG. 2 shows a carrier sleeve 4 in the form of a laminated body 5 with layer inserts 13 in the form of a spiral winding, which is embedded as reinforcement in the base material, preferably rubber, of the carrier sleeve 4.
