Description

US-A-4 494 816).The invention relates to a coaxial connector element for connection to a pin header; (see e.g. US-A-4,494,816).

In devices for communication and transmission technology, e.g. With modern devices in telecommunications technology, RF signals are increasingly being transmitted via NF connector contacts. In this case, the coaxial cables used for the transmission of RF signals must be able to be connected to NF pin headers.

The invention is therefore based on the object of designing a coaxial connector element in a manner suitable for connection to a pin header.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the following features:
  • a) the connector element is on the outer periphery of its connectable end to the pin header for making contact with two diametrically opposite or with four at the corner points of a square pins of the pin header in a corresponding manner with two diametrically opposite or with four, each at the same distance from each other resilient contact lamellae projecting outwards and distributed over the outer circumference,
  • b) for contacting with another pin (center pin), which is between the diametrically opposite two pins or in the middle within the corner points of one Arranged square pins, an inner conductor socket is provided in the interior of the connector element in relation to the contact lamellae.

Such a coaxial connector element is designed either with two or with four contact blades. Sufficient contacting in some cases can already be achieved with two contact blades, but the connector element is preferably designed with four contact blades.

The coaxial connector element according to the invention is formed with the outer contact lamellae and the inner inner conductor bushing in a manner which is well suited for connecting a coaxial cable to the pins of a pin header, the contact with the pins being established without additional measures simply by plugging the coaxial connector element onto the Pin header is done in a safe manner. When plugging the connector element, for example on a 9-pin field of a pin header, two or preferably four pins and a center pin are contacted with contact lamellae in accordance with the design and arrangement. When designing a connector element with four contact lamellae, a pin array of 9 x 5 pins can then be contacted with an 8-way connector in a very confined space. The connector element according to the invention, in spite of its formation with contact lamellae, requires practically no larger dimensions on its outer circumference, so that it can be made particularly compact and is particularly well suited for the connection of coaxial cables to NF pin headers with a large number of closely adjacent pins.

The contact lamellae are expediently formed by spring arms of a sleeve secured against rotation on the outer circumference of the connector element. In this case, the connector element is designed in a particularly simple manner with contact lamellae.

With regard to the security of contact between a coaxial connector element and the pins of a pin header, it is advantageous if the resilient contact lamellae extend away from the end of the connector element in its longitudinal direction and project obliquely to its longitudinal axis in the unloaded state.

In the case of a coaxial connector element according to the invention, it is particularly expedient if a ring is fixed on the connector on the side of the contact lamella facing the pin strip, e.g. is pressed on, which is provided with a number corresponding to the number of contact blades of outwardly open and aligned with the contact blades grooves. Such a ring is used with its grooves for pre-positioning of the connector element during the plugging process, so that the contact lamellae are securely fed onto the pins of the pin header and do not get into the spaces between the pins.

It is also advantageous if an insulating part with a pre-centering hole for the central pin is arranged in front of the inner conductor bushing, so that a secure engagement of the central pin in the inner conductor bushing is also ensured.

The coaxial connector element according to the invention is expediently constructed such that it has an outer conductor sleeve made of conductive material, on one of which The contact lamellae are provided on the outside and the inner conductor socket is arranged on the inside and a coaxial cable is connected to the other end.

As already stated, the coaxial connector element according to the invention is particularly well suited for the connection of coaxial cables to an NF pin header. In this case, it is expedient if the connector element is combined to form a unit together with other similar connector elements in a connector housing. With regard to the connection of the coaxial connector element to a pin header, it is advantageous in such cases if the connector housing can be coupled to a transfer connector provided with a pin header on a mounting plate.

Further advantageous embodiments of the subject matter of claim 1 are specified in the remaining subclaims.

Zur Verbindung des Koaxial-Steckverbinderelementes mit einer Stiftleiste ist es im Unterschied zur dargestellten Ausführungsform auch möglich, zwischen nur zwei einander diametral gegenüberliegenden Stiften und dementsprechend nur zwei in korrespondierender Weise an der Außenleiterhülse 1 vorgesehenen Kontakt-Lamellen einen Kontakt herzustellen.1 consists of an outer conductor sleeve 1 made of conductive material, at one end of which a coaxial cable 2 is connected and the other end of which is designed in a manner suitable for connection to an LF pin header. For this purpose, the connector element is formed on the outer periphery of its end which can be connected to the pin header, preferably with four resilient contact lamellae 3, which are distributed at equal distances from one another over the outer periphery and which in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 have the spring arms a non-rotatably fixed sleeve 4 made of conductive material on the outer conductor sleeve 1, extend away from the end of the connector element in its longitudinal direction and protrude obliquely to its longitudinal axis in the unloaded state. However, other embodiments of outwardly projecting contact lamellae are also possible. The contact lamellae 3 are used when plugging the coaxial connector element onto a pin strip for making contact with pins, with four pins lying at the corner points of a square being contacted in the case of four contact lamellae arranged in the manner shown. This contact principle is illustrated in Fig.2. In the 9-pin array 5 shown there, the four pins 6 are contacted by contact lamellae 3 and thus connected to the outer conductor sleeve 1 of the coaxial connector element. As can be seen, the pins of the pin field 5 are arranged here with the same spacing of, for example, approximately 2.5 mm and are square, whereby they can have a cross section of, for example, approximately 0.55 to 0.65 mm. The pins can also be round. To connect the coaxial connector element to a pin header, it is also possible, in contrast to the illustrated embodiment, to connect only two diametrically opposite pins and accordingly only two in a corresponding manner External conductor sleeve 1 provided contact blades to make a contact.

On the side of the contact lamellae 3 which faces the pin strip, a ring 7 is fixed on the outer conductor sleeve 1, e.g. pressed on, which is provided with a number of grooves 8 corresponding to the number of contact blades 3, here here with four grooves, which are aligned with the contact blades and are open to the outside. With its grooves 8, this ring serves to preposition the connector element, i.e. the position assignment between the contact lamellae 3 and the pins 6 of the 9-pin field 5.

In order to make contact with a further pin, namely with a center pin 9 of the 9-pin field 5 shown in FIG. 2, which is arranged centrally within the pins 6, an inner conductor socket 10 made of conductive material is provided in the interior of the plug connector element. Slats 3 is firmly positioned. For this purpose, the inner conductor socket 10 is surrounded by an insulating part 11 designed as a support disk and centered in the outer conductor sleeve 1 by its positioning lug 12. The insulating part 11 is inserted into the outer conductor sleeve 1 from the cable side, the positioning lug 12 being guided in a longitudinal slot 13 of the outer conductor sleeve. Between the insulating part 11 and a diameter shoulder 14 on the inner wall of the outer conductor sleeve 1, another insulating part designed as an insulating sleeve 15 is fixed, the end face 16 of which lies in front of the inner conductor socket 10 has a pre-centering hole 17 for the center pin 9 to be inserted into the inner conductor socket. At the cable end is the Inner conductor socket 10 conductively connected to the stripped inner conductor 18 of the coaxial cable 2, for example soldered. The outer conductor 20 of the coaxial cable, which is freed from the outer insulation 19, for example consisting of a shield braid, is conductively connected to the outer conductor sleeve 1, for example also soldered, for which purpose the outer conductor sleeve is formed with a suitable number of solder holes 21.

An application example of a coaxial connector element according to the invention is shown in FIG. 3 or in FIG. 6. There, a connector element designed according to FIG. 1 with four contact lamellae, together with seven further similar connector elements, is combined as an 8-way connector 30 in a common connector housing 31 to form a unit, each for connection to a field of 9 × 5 mm. Pins a pin header 32 on a mounting plate 33, for example a rear wall of the device or a printed circuit board, the connector housing 31 being coupled to a transfer connector 34. The pin header 32 is as in Figure 3 with an assembly 35, e.g. a circuit board, or as connected in Figure 6 with a female connector 36. In such applications, it is expedient if the outer conductors of the coaxial cables are connected to the respective connector housing 31, so that an RF-tight coax interface transition is realized. In the embodiment in FIG. 3, the contact lamellae 3a are formed by a contact boss 37 as projecting outwards.

As can be seen in FIG. 4, a total of eight coaxial connector elements accommodated in a plug housing 31 can be used to pinpoint the whole 9 x 5 pin field 38 of a pin strip, the corresponding contact principle being shown in FIG. 5 and - as already with reference to of Fig. 2 was explained - with the help of the outer four contact lamellae 3 and 3a, a connection between the respective outer cable and the pins 39 located at the corner points of a square and with the help of the inner conductor socket 10, a connection between the respective inner cable and a central pin 40 of the pin field 38 takes place.
