Description

The invention relates to a breathing apparatus according to the preamble of independent claim 1.

A breathing apparatus of this type is known for example from DE-A-36 23 269. Devices of this type are required, for example, in civil defense for people who need breathing support to overcome the resistance to inhalation. Similar devices are also part of the personal equipment of pilots and doctors and of craftsmen who have to work in contaminated ambient air. The power supply to the blower usually comes from a rechargeable battery pack housed in the housing. The fan sucks in the outside air through an intake opening and presses it through the filter under pressure. Such respirators are therefore also called positive pressure respirators. Compared to the devices in which the breathing air is drawn through the filter with negative pressure, these positive pressure breathing devices are characterized by a higher level of safety. In addition, the device can be easily expanded in such a way that the air volume can be controlled, that is to say that the delivery rate of the blower can automatically adapt to the needs of the user.

In the respiratory protection device according to DE-A-36 23 269, the suction opening to the blower is protected by a protruding and in any case disturbing mouthpiece molded onto the protective mask, which, however, in turn has an opening which is easily accessible from the outside and through which dripping and spraying water is largely unhindered the blower can penetrate and impair it.

The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a breathing apparatus of the type mentioned, in which the suction opening is protected more effectively than before against dripping and spraying water and which is nevertheless compact and handy. The device should still be inexpensive to manufacture and easy to use. The object is achieved by the invention according to claim 1.

In the respiratory protection device according to the invention, the suction opening is covered by the filter and, with the fan running, the outside air is drawn to the suction opening via spaces between the housing and the filter. The suction opening is thus largely covered and protected against the ingress of dripping and spraying water as well as against other liquids and solids from the environment. Because the filter itself as a cover serves the suction opening, no additional protective means are required, which would increase the weight of the breathing apparatus. The filter forms a finger guard with respect to the suction opening and makes it impossible to cover the suction opening unintentionally, for example with a jacket.

According to a development of the invention, an arm is attached to the housing, which holds the filter and through which an air duct leads from the fan to the connection opening for the filter. This allows a simple and safe mounting of the filter in a structurally simple manner and, with a compact design, an optimally short air duct between the fan and the filter. Further advantageous features result from the remaining claims and the following description.

Two exemplary embodiments of the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings. Show it:
Fig. 1
2 shows a perspective view of a breathing apparatus according to the invention with a filter that has not yet been installed,
Fig. 2

A commercially available respiratory filter 2 has an inlet opening 2b and an outlet opening 2a. The filter 2 is connected in a known manner to a face mask or helmet through a breathing tube, not shown here.

The filter 2 is detachably fixed to a housing 3 of the breathing apparatus 1 by being placed in the direction of arrow 9 from an arm 3 l of the housing 3, as shown in FIG. 1, locking cams on a housing wall 3 m and opposing locking cams 3 k on holding clips 3h center and fix the filter with respect to a connection opening 3f and a flat filter 3g. The position of the filter 2 is determined by molded pads 3p. The housing 3 has a body 3b and a removable cover 3a and is preferably made of plastic by injection molding.

As shown in FIG. 1, a radial fan 5 known per se is accommodated in the housing 3 and is operated by an electric motor 5a. Batteries 6 are also accommodated in the housing 3 for the power supply of the motor 5a. A run control of the blower 5 and a control of the number of inserted batteries is possible via a transparent window 3c. The device naturally has a switch, not shown here, for switching the fan on and off.

The suction opening 5c of the blower 5 is located directly behind a suction opening 3e which is arranged approximately in the middle in a wall 3m of the housing. In front of the suction opening 3e there is, as shown in FIG. 2, the filter 2, which thus covers this opening but still leaves gaps 8a, 8b and 8c free, through which the outside air can reach the suction opening 3e. 2, the outside air can reach the suction opening 3e from the front and from the rear, as indicated by arrows 12, as shown in FIG. 2. An inner wall 3n of the arm 3l is trough-shaped, so that spaces 8b and 8c are formed between the filter 2 and the wall 3n, flow into the outside air and can reach the suction opening 3e along the arm 3l. As a result of this accessibility from all sides, the spaces 8a to 8c can be kept comparatively narrow. When the fan is running, the outside air thus passes through the spaces 8a to 8c and via the suction opening 3e to the suction opening 5c of the fan 5 and is conveyed by the latter into channel 4 under increased pressure via a spiral channel 5b. From the duct 4, the compressed outside air passes through the opening 2b into the interior of the filter, where the undesired components of the outside air are removed as far as possible. On average, about 40 to 60 liters of outside air can be cleaned per minute with a filter 2.

The filter 2 protrudes laterally in FIG. 2 from the arm 3 l and can therefore also be gripped well with gloves and removed for replacement, the retaining clips 3 h being deflected elastically. A replacement filter 2 is placed on the arm 3 l in the direction of the arrow 9, the latching cams 3d and 3k engaging at the edge of the filter 2.

The embodiment variant of the respiratory protection device shown in FIG. 3 has 30 l in the housing 30 with two arms extending in opposite directions. A radial fan 33 with an axis of rotation 33 a is accommodated in a central part 30 between the arms 30 l, which conveys the compressed air into channels 34 and from these through two filters 2. The middle part 30m has a cover, not shown here, through which the batteries housed in this part can be replaced. The filters 2 have a bulge 31 on the circumference, which is engaged on molded cams 30d. These cams 30d can also be metal balls that can be retracted against a spring force. In a recess 3i in the bottom of the housing 30, a shoulder strap, not shown here, can be hung. Although two filters 2 are attached here, this version is also comparatively slim and can therefore be worn under a coat, for example, without being too disturbed.

Despite the considerable advantages of the respiratory protection device according to the invention, it is evidently very compact and can be implemented with a few, simple and robust components with a comparatively low weight, so that a respiratory protection device was created according to the invention which not only takes the requirements of civil protection and industry into account in an excellent manner, but is also extremely easy to use and reliable due to its simple and compact design.
