Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the technical field concerning the formation of containers of undulated cardboard which are designed to hold products such as vials, bottles and the like.
  • Such containers are generally constituted by a sheet of cardboard, suitably undulated.
  • the surface opposite to that in which the recesses are made, is usually applied to a base also made of cardboard.
  • the base of cardboard usually has a couple of folding winglets hinged along the opposite sides and designed to close frontally the seats housing the products.
  • a method is used according to which a strip of cardboard is fed to at least one moulding device basically constituted by a chain assembly operated in an annular path and equipped with equidistant profiling transverse elements.
  • the profiling elements have a shape suited to define the profile of the recesses to be formed.
  • the strip of cardboard enters the forming device in the zone where said chain assembly moves in an arc of circumference.
  • the profiling elements are consequently caused to diverge to the outside, and then they can be reset in parallelism, so that relative portions of the cardboard strip are taken and clamped between the forming elements.
  • profiling elements cooperate with complementary and counterrotating means in the strip outlet zone.
  • This further strip of cardboard unrolls from a relative reel and is previously sprinkled with a suitable adhesive in such a way as to form the cited base. Finally, single portions are cut from the strip, which constitute as many containers.
  • profiling elements employed allow to obtain recesses which have only one prefixed profile, so that it is not possible to produce containers for containing together products of different shapes, e.g. vials and bottles, as it is often required.
  • such profile has constant section, so that it is not possible to produce containers for products with section differentiated axially.
  • a further limit is constituted by the necessity of working only with strips of cardboard wound on a reel.
  • the object of the present invention is to propose a method that allows to form containers of undulated cardboard in a very versatile manner, particularly as regards shape and dimensions of the recesses for housing the products.
  • a further object of the present invention is to propose a method for forming containers of undulated cardboard that can be performed by means of a simple technical solution, surely functional and reliable.
  • the cited objects are obtained by means of a method for forming containers of undulated cardboard characterized by the fact of including: feeding of one sheet of cardboard to a mould equipped with punching means which cooperate with a correspondent die matrix, said punching means being operated singularly in a functionally interdependent manner, in transverse direction in respect of said sheet of cardboard; operating in sequence said punching means, in such a way to realize subsequent foldings on said sheet of cardboard, the foldings being shaped as the spaces of said die matrix and being designed to form a succession of recesses which constitute the housing seats for respective products; opening of said mould advancing in step the sheet of undulated cardboard.
  • the described method allows to form containers with undulated cardboard in an extremely versatile manner, starting either from a strip or from blanks of cardboard.
  • the section of the recesses made on the sheet of cardboard can be any, thus allowing to meet the most different needs.
  • This method allows also to provide the realization of recesses that have a different section along their axis.
  • the subject method allows to perform, in a very easy way, the change of the size of the containers.
  • 1 indicates the strip of cardboard designed to be shaped according to an undulated shape, to form the housing seats of the containers being realized.
  • the strip 1 unwinds from a reel 2, supported rotatingly by a horizontal axle.
  • the strip 1 is fed to a mould 3 equipped with a plurality of punching means 4 arranged in line, one at the side of another, along the direction of the feed of the strip.
  • the punching means 4 are held slidingly by a plate 5 of the mould and are designed to cooperate with a correspondent plurality of spaces 6 made on a die matrix 7 of the mould.
  • the punching elements 4 and the spaces 6 have transversal dimensions at least equal to the width of the strip and are shaped in a way to define respectively the internal and external surfaces of the recesses 8 designed to form the housing seats for the products.
  • the punching elements 4 can be operated singularly, in a functionally interdependent manner, and perpendicularly to the strip to be shaped.
  • the plate 5 and the die matrix 7 of the mould can be operated in a way to come nearer to the strip 1 or to move away from it.
  • the cardboard strip 1 can slide between the plate 5 and the die matrix 7.
  • a loop 1a is made in the cardboard strip, upstream of the mould 3, between two rolls 9, this loop being designed to act as a compensating element during the working phase of the punching elements 4.
  • the strip 1 is made to advance in step by a trailing element 10 equipped with a couple of clamping means 11 and 12 (indicated only schematically, since they are of known type) designed to clamp the same strip, downstream of the mould 3.
  • the clamping means 11 and 12 are shaped like the internal and external surfaces of the recesses 8 respectively, and clamp one of them (figure 1a).
  • the clamping means are moved away to the position 11a, 12a (arrows B), and then moved back to the position 11b, 12b (arrows C), in which they are ready for a following clamping phase (arrows D).
  • each recess 8 causes a correspondent portion of the strip 1 to be pulled from the loop 1a, which acts consequently as a compensating element.
  • each punching element is subsequentely operated in such a way that it does not interfere with the precedent punching element working phase.
  • the operating seuqence can start either from one or the other end of the mould; otherwise the operating sequence can start from the middle of the mould, and then proceede toward the opposite ends.
  • the strip 13 indicated by a broken line in fig. 1a, unwinds from a relative reel and is provided with a layer of adhesive, supplied by spreading means 14.
  • Figure 2 illustrates an operational variation of the described method, which provides forming the containers from precut blanks of cardboard 15, prearranged to desired dimensions.
