Abstract

There is provided a tin lid for use with cans of oblong shape in Hansa format, which includes in its lid image section a tear-open portion defined by a self-contained recessed line capable of being broken up at one end of the lid by means of a pull-open ring attached to this end. At the other end, said recessed line includes a straight recessed line portion which extends in chordal-type fashion with respect to the core wall shaped like an arc of a circle and which is positioned perpendicular and symmetrically to the longitudinal lid center line and is further connected with the other recessed line components through an also chordal-type or polygonal recessed line connecting portion. This tear-open portion area defined by the polygonal arrangement of the recessed line, above all, is stiffened by a group of like and completely uniformly distributed beads, which are further associated with the chordal-type recessed line portion in predetermined manner, to so ensure the tear-open portion's final separation from the remaining lid section virtually without any remarkable capacity of the lid image section to undergo spring movement itself.

Description

Die Erfindung betrifft einen Deckel aus Blech für unrunde Dosen, insb. langovale Dosen im Hansaformat mit den Merkmalen des Oberbegriffs des Anspruchs 1.The invention relates to a lid made of sheet metal for non-round cans, in particular long oval cans in Hansa format with the features of the preamble of claim 1.

US-A-3 478 918).Such a cover is known from GB-A.:1 207 769. In order to facilitate handling of the lid when tearing open and to reduce or reduce the risk of the contents of the can splashing or even an injury to the person at the tear edge of the tear-off part during the last phase of the separation process of the tear-off part from the cans, the tear-off part points in the start section and in End area of the lid on differently oriented beads. In the start section, beads running transversely to the tear-open direction ensure that during the initial break-in and tear-open the start section can no longer bulge around an axis that runs parallel to the tear-open direction. In addition, the transverse beads facilitate the unrolling of the sheet when the starting section is torn, which can more or less bend along the transverse beads. In the end area, on the other hand, the beads run parallel to the opening direction or at an acute angle to this opening direction, which prevents the sheet from unrolling in the end section of the opening part and stiffens this part like a board. This is intended to facilitate and improve the safe handling of the tear-open part in the last phase of the tear-open process and during the moment in which the tear-off part is separated from the can (cf. also DE-A-2 909 076, FIG. 1). Similar measures are also known for lids for cans of circular cross-section (cf. US-A-3,478,918).

Despite this different stiffening of the start area and the end section of the tear-open part of lids of the type in question, problems in handling the lid, in particular during the last phase of the tearing and separating process, have been shown in practice. If, in this last phase, the two tear-open points running along the sides of the lid approach the arcuate end region of the lid, the direction of the score line changes continuously from an orientation parallel to the tear-open direction on the lid sides to an orientation at a right angle to the tear-open direction when reached the point at which the longitudinal center line of the lid intersects the score line. At this point - theoretically - the two tear points converge. By changing the direction of the score line, an ever greater pulling force must be applied to the tearing part via the grip tab in order to maintain the tearing process. The force is greatest at the moment when the tearing part finally separates from the can. In accordance with the high force, the tear-open part is deformed very elastically at this moment and, when it comes off, snaps back into the relaxed shape. This can also lead to splashing of the can contents and / or to injury to the person opening the can. It has therefore already been proposed in the older, not prepublished EP-A-0 171 650 to design the score line course in the end area of the cover differently from the outline of the cover or the course of the core wall, in that the score line in this end area has a discontinuous, to provide a polygonal course or at least one straight line section that runs transversely to the longitudinal center line of the cover or that is tendon-shaped with respect to the arcuate course of the cover outline, which passes over an inconsistent kink in the adjacent notch line sections. This inevitably ensures that the two tear points come to a standstill at the end points of the tendon-shaped notch line section in the last phase of the tearing process. Tearing is not possible even if the tear force acting on the grip tab is increased. Rather, the person opening the can must release the force on the tear-open part and bring the sheet metal to break through slight pivoting movements of the tear-open part around the chord-shaped notch line section. This automatically ensures that no greater springback capacity is stored in the tearing part at the moment of the separation process. This largely eliminates the risk of splashing the contents of the can as well as the risk of injury to the person.

Practical tests have shown that the previous stiffening of the end region of the tearing part is no longer fully satisfactory in the case of a tendon-shaped or polygonal configuration of the score line in the end section.

It is therefore an object of the invention to develop a cover according to the preamble of claim 1 in such a way that the advantages of a chord-shaped or polygonal notch line section in the end region of the cover come into play much more effectively.

This object is achieved by the teaching of claim 1.

This takes advantage of the formation of the score line in accordance with the proposal of the older EP-A-0 171 650 and adjusts the stiffening of the end area of the tear-open part in a special way to the particular course of the score line in this area.

Dadurch wird gewährleistet, dass praktisch ohne wesentliche Verbiegung dieses Bereiches die Kerblinie bis an die beiden Endpunkte des sehnenförmigen Kerblinienabschnittes zuverlässig und leicht abgeschert werden kann, so dass für den letzten Trennvorgang entlang dem geraden sehnenförmigen Kerblinienabschnitt eine sichere Handhabe über den steifen Aufreissteil erhalten wird, um durch Auf- und Abbiegen des Aufreissteils diesen endgültig und ohne Speicherung vonDue to the design and arrangement of the beads in the end region of the tear-open part according to the teaching of claim 1, care is taken to ensure that the sheet metal of the tear-open part is stiff at least over the entire width of the chord-shaped notch line section and over a substantial length, measured along the longitudinal center line of the cover , shows a board-like behavior, by means of which a bending of the sheet right up to the straight or tendon-shaped notch line section is decisively reduced. This ensures that the score line can be sheared reliably and easily up to the two end points of the tendon-shaped score line section practically without substantial bending of this area, so that for the last separation process along the straight tendon-shaped score line section a safe handling over the rigid tear-open part is obtained by opening and turning the tear-off part permanently and without saving

What is essential here is the uniform stiffening over the entire width of the straight chord-shaped notch line section up to the end points of this notch line section. This is the only way to achieve a uniform, guided separation by moving the tearing part up and down.

The two outer beads of the bead group are preferably oriented towards the end points of the chord-shaped notch line section in accordance with the teaching of claim 2. In this way, the breaking process along the score line to the end points is carried out safely, since the bead ends are close to the transition point between the end points and the adjacent score line sections. At the same time, it is ensured that, even in the end point areas, deformation of the sheet during the last separation process is largely excluded.

The dimensioning of the length of the bead group in relation to the length of the end section of the tearing part is advantageous in the sense as stated in claim 3.

The storage of a resilience in the tearing part when opening is further significantly reduced if you provide beads arrangement and distribution according to claims 4 and 6. Here, the outer areas of the end section of the tear-open part are stiffened in the same way as the area opposite the tendon-shaped notch line section. This stiffening is partially extended into the middle lid area, so that storage of spring forces is also counteracted in this area. The smallest possible distance of the beads from the lateral notch line sections is particularly advantageous.

What is essential here is the practically uniform stiffening over the entire width of the tearing part, specifically in the central region of this tearing part and near the lateral notch line sections.

The invention is explained in more detail below with the aid of schematic drawings using an exemplary embodiment.

  • Fig. 2 den Deckel nach Fig. 1 in Draufsicht.
Show it:
  • Fig. 1 shows a cover according to the invention in longitudinal section and
  • Fig. 2 shows the lid of FIG. 1 in plan view.

The cover can be made of aluminum sheet or other thin sheet. It is a lid with a long oval outline, which is widely used for fish cans in the so-called Hansa format. It can be sheets of small thickness, in particular less than 0.24 mm.

The cover 1 has a flanged edge 2 which merges into the cover mirror 3 via a core wall. In the cover mirror 3, a tearing part 6 is delimited by a self-contained score line 7, the course of which deviates from the course of the core wall. The score line has a start section 8 at the left end of FIG. 2, in the vicinity of which a handle tab 5 of conventional design is fastened by means of a rivet 4 formed from the sheet metal. The score line diverges from the break-open start line 8 into two straight sections 9, which delimit the entire start section 16 of the tear-open part 6. In the start section, two transverse beads 21, 22 are formed, which have increasing length in the tear direction.

In the central middle field 17 of the tear-open part 6, a flat recess 20 of approximately square outline is provided, which is delimited by a corresponding shoulder. On both sides of the depression 20 extend parallel to the two outer notch line sections 10 beads 26, 27, which run parallel to the longitudinal center line 19 of the cover and the core wall.

Sie ragen somit um einen erheblichen Längenabschnitt in den Endbereich 18 des Aufreissteils 6.The length of these beads 26, 27 is greater than the length of the depression 20 and the length of the central field 17 of the tearing part 6. They thus protrude a considerable length into the end region 18 of the tearing part 6.

It can be seen that the beads 26, 27 can be arranged at substantially the same distance from the score line 10 or from the shoulder delimiting the depression 20. The distance 33 between the beads 26 and 27 and the score line sections 10 is as small as possible in the preferred embodiment and corresponds at most to the bead width (31).

The beads 26 and 27 end in the end region 18 of the tear-open part 6 directly in the region of a transition point between the notch line sections 12 and 13, namely at a short distance of a few millimeters. The score line sections 12 and 13 belong to a polygonal train of individual, straight score line sections 11, 12 and 13 which are connected via points 14 to the lateral straight score line sections 10 and determine the end region 18 of the tear-open part 6. The middle section 11 of this polygonal train consists of a notch line 11 which runs in a chord-like manner with respect to the arcuate core wall and whose straight length 38 corresponds to approximately half the total width 39 of the tearing part 6. The score line section 11 is at a distance from the core wall, measured on the longitudinal center line 19, which can be between 2 and 15 mm and is preferably about 10 mm.

In the example shown, 4 beads each having the same length 36 and the same distribution are assigned to this middle straight or chord-shaped notch line section 11 in the end region 18 of the tear-open part 6. The two outer beads 25a and 25d have a mutual center distance approximately equal to the length 38 of the chord-shaped notch line section 11, that is to say that their longitudinal center lines 38a are almost flush with the end points 15 of the notch line section 11. As shown, the beads preferably have a completely uniform distribution over the length 38 of the notch line section 11. The bead width 31 in the preferred exemplary embodiment shown is approximately equal to the width 32 of the undeformed sheet metal region lying between adjacent beads. The length 36 of the beads 25 is also the same, this length in the preferred embodiment according to FIG. 2 being the length 35 of the end region 18 of the tear-open part 6, measured parallel to the longitudinal center line 19 of the cover and between the chord-shaped notch Line section 11 and the transition points 14 of the score line to the straight lateral score line sections 10, so that the beads 25 project beyond the connecting line between the transition points 14 in the direction of the starting section. This enhances the board-like effect. It can be seen from FIG. 2 that the beads 26 and 27 in the end region 18 of the tearing part fit harmoniously into the bead distribution of the bead group 25a to 25d. In the preferred embodiment according to FIG. 2, the beads 25 to 27 each have the same width and the same undeformed intermediate areas.

The beads extend as far as possible to the polygonal score line in the end region 18 of the tearing part. The distance 30 of the end products of the beads 25 to the chord-shaped notch line section 11 is between approximately 1 mm and approximately 7 mm and is preferably smaller than the width 31 of the beads and is approximately 0.5 mm to approximately 3 mm in the preferred exemplary embodiment shown.

The bead distribution in conjunction with the polygonal course of the score line in the end region 18 of the tear-open part 6 ensures particularly safe handling when opening when the tear-off part is detached from the rest of the cover plate. Due to the ribs and the resulting stiffening, the tear-open force is aligned parallel to the longitudinal center line 19 of the cover without special attention when opening, the tear-open process automatically ending at the end points 15 of the tendon-shaped notch line section 11, so that an unexpected resilient tearing off of the tear-off part is excluded is. The final separation process is carried out extremely securely by the uniform stiffening of the cover plate, so that uniform separation is also ensured by moving the tearing part back and forth about the hinge axis formed by the tendon-shaped notch line section 11.

The new measures make the handling of the tear-open part much easier and more convenient when opening.
