Abstract

Visual display apparatus comprises one or more rows of light emitting sources (5) arranged to move cyclically through a display zone. The illumination of the light sources is controlled so that, to an observer, an image appears to be formed in the zone. The apparatus also includes a program­ ming device which encodes artwork or the like in a form suitable for use by the visual display apparatus.
