Definitions
- the present invention relates to fireplaces intended to be placed in a chimney so as to be able to function either in open fire or in closed fire, that is to say as a stove with continuous fire.
- the difficulty in producing such fireplaces lies in the fact that it is necessary for the fumes to be evacuated perfectly well in the two combustion modes and more particularly when switching from one to the other.
- the interior arrangement of the hearth according to the invention allows the combustion of any fuel as a result of the large draft due to the presence of a particular drain, it avoids, thanks to its sliding door, that smoke does not spread in the room when the door is opened, as can happen for fireplaces whose doors open "à laicy” that is to say by pivoting around a vertical axis.
- the opening of a "French-style” door causes a depression inside the hearth which causes the fumes in the room considered, while with the system according to the invention comprising a sliding door, this phenomenon does not exist.
- the fireplace illustrated in fig. 1-3 is designed as a general parallelepiped double wall, except obviously made for the front of the fireplace which is open to allow it to be loaded.
- the hearth proper comprises first of all a base 1 to which follows a vertical bottom 2, side walls 3 and 4 being assembled to the base 1 and to the bottom 2. To this set of walls is associated a top 5. As illustrated in fig. 2, the upper part of the side walls 3 and 4 has a cutaway 3a, 4a leading to the top 5.
- annular flanges 11 and 12 intended to be subjected to flexible sheaths 13, 14 intended to conduct the hot air produced to the desired location.
- the center of the top 5 is provided with an annular outlet 15 with which is associated a smoke evacuation pipe 16.
- the top 5 also has in its front part a part 5a curved downwards which is followed by an oblique screen 5b oriented downwards and which ends in a fallen stiffening edge 5c turned upwards.
- the panel 6 is stopped at a certain distance from the free edge of the base 1 which, in its part projecting beyond this panel, is provided with an elongated opening la in which an ashtray 17 is engaged. Of course, clearance exists between the ashtray 17 and the edges of the opening la to allow the arrival of fresh air into the hearth, this arrival being controlled by means of a register 18 which regulates the importance of the passage of air.
- the panel 6 is also provided with a central opening 6a through which fresh air passes to enter the chamber 10 where it heats up before being evacuated by the ducts 13 and 14.
- the bottom 2 of the hearth is associated with a second screen 19 from this bottom and which extends obliquely downwards, so that its free raised edge 9a is located above the edge 5c of the first screen.
- the assembly 5b-19 constitutes a gully whose passage which has the entire width of the hearth is oriented vertically roughly in the middle thereof.
- cut sides 3a, 4a of the side walls 3 and 4 of the hearth have an origin which is located at the level of the second screen 19.
- the two side walls 3 and 4 are provided on their inner faces with oblique slides 3b, 4b intended to retain a grid 20 above which a grill G can be placed, maintained by brackets 3c, 4c formed on said walls.
- the partitions 8 and 9 of the outer envelope have a double fold 8a-8b, 9a-9b, the first fold 8a, 9a being oriented perpendicular to the face in question, while the other diverges towards the outside .
- the folds 8a, 9a they close the intermediate compartment 10 on the front face of the hearth.
- the folds 8b, 9b roughly correspond to the arched part 5a at the bottom of the top 5 (fig. 3).
- the free edges of the folds 8b and 9b are associated with vertical slides 21, 22 in the shape of a U in which slides freely a door produced in the form of an ice panel 23.
- This panel has on its upper edge fixings to a cable 24, passing over idler pulleys 25, 26 mounted with free rotation at the upper end of a vertical mast 27 whose foot is secured to the arched part 5a from above 5.
- the cable is associated with a counterweight 28 intended to balance the glass panel 23. It can be seen that at the level of the base 1 of the hearth, a profile 29 is fitted between the slides 21, 22 provided with a seal 29a against which the panel abuts in the low position.
- the slides 21, 22 are arranged in the outer lining of the chimney, so that they are not visible.
- the glass panel 23 does not have any visible metal frame or slide.
- the fresh air arrives through the opening 6a of the panel 6 to pass through the chamber 10 which constitutes a heat exchanger, so that hot air comes out at the outlets of the ducts 13 and 14.
- the panel 23 is reassembled so as to be in the position illustrated in fig. 5.
- a large part of the air sucked by the pipe 16 for evacuating the fumes abuts against the first screen 5 to be returned in the direction of the fuel located behind the grate 19.
- the fumes produced by the combustion rise vertically to come abut against the second screen 19, then they are sucked through the narrow opening limited by the terminal edges of the screens 5b and 19.
- the efficiency of the drain thus formed is such that the fuel can be of any kind , cardboard, rag, waste of all kinds, white wood, hard wood, green and wet wood, without any smoke escaping into the room where located the fireplace.
- a refractory brick slab can be placed on the brackets 3c, 4c so as to transform the hearth into a real oven whose temperature is adjusted by more or less mounting the panel of ice 23.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to fireplaces intended to be placed in a chimney so as to be able to function either in open fire or in closed fire, that is to say as a stove with continuous fire.
The difficulty in producing such fireplaces lies in the fact that it is necessary for the fumes to be evacuated perfectly well in the two combustion modes and more particularly when switching from one to the other.
Apart from the fact that the interior arrangement of the hearth according to the invention allows the combustion of any fuel as a result of the large draft due to the presence of a particular drain, it avoids, thanks to its sliding door, that smoke does not spread in the room when the door is opened, as can happen for fireplaces whose doors open "à la française" that is to say by pivoting around a vertical axis. Indeed, the opening of a "French-style" door causes a depression inside the hearth which causes the fumes in the room considered, while with the system according to the invention comprising a sliding door, this phenomenon does not exist.
- Fig. 2 et 3 en sont des coupes suivant II-II et III-III (fig. 1).
- Fig. 1 is a cross section of a hearth established in accordance with the invention.
- Fig. 2 and 3 are sections along II-II and III-III (fig. 1).
- Fig. 4 to 6 illustrate the different possible positions of the sliding door of the fireplace.
1-3 is designed as a general parallelepiped double wall, except obviously made for the front of the fireplace which is open to allow it to be loaded. The hearth proper comprises first of all a
The
It is noted that the
The two
3).It is observed that the
6.The free edges of the
Finally, note that the
In operation, the fresh air arrives through the opening 6a of the
In the closed fire position, the combustion air arrives through the
