Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for printing, dispensing and attaching self-adhesive labels adhering to a carrier tape, with a transport device which gradually pulls the carrier tape around a dispensing edge which is formed by a roller-bearing axis, the ends of which are spaced apart by two , are held by arms connected by a bridge.
- a label can be brought into the dispensing position by first tightening a hand lever and then releasing it again. While the lever is being tightened, the label is provided with a print in the device, for example with a price, an article number or the like, and when the lever is released, the transport device detects the carrier tape and pulls it around the dispensing edge by a piece corresponding to the label length. When the carrier tape is pulled around the dispensing edge, the label peels off and reaches the dispensing position below the pressure roller. The lever is returned to its initial position under the action of a spring which must be so strong that it can carry out the transport of the carrier tape.
- the dispensing edge In order for the label on the dispensing edge to detach cleanly from the carrier tape, the dispensing edge must be designed as a sharp edge as possible. With the special shape of the dispensing edge described above, this requires the smallest possible outer diameter of the rolls.
- rollers must be mounted on a correspondingly thin axis, so that there is a risk that the axis will bend under the influence of the tensile force exerted on the carrier tape. This bending causes a greater stress on the carrier tape at the edges, which can even lead to the carrier tape tearing. As a result of such tearing, the carrier tape must be re-threaded into the device, which represents an undesirable loss of time. This risk of sagging is of course greater the wider the labels for which the device is designed.
- a label dispenser is known from FR-A-2 310 925, in which the dispensing edge does not run in a straight line, but is composed of segments which each run tangentially to an arc.
- a wire that connects the individual parts extends through the rollers and the pearls.
- the beads have the function of a joint, and they are each supported on a component that supports the dispensing edge.
- the invention has for its object to provide a device of the type described in such a way that the part carrying the dispensing edge can be produced using a simple injection mold and that, regardless of the label width, small diameter rolls can be used to achieve a sharp dispensing edge and still the effects of the friction torque between the wheel and the axle are kept to a minimum.
- axle carrying the roller is provided between its ends with a support which counteracts the force exerted by the carrier tape on the axle in the form of an undercut-free support lug which lies against the axle and partially surrounds the axle.
- the component in which the axle is mounted can be made of plastic using an injection mold that can be easily separated because the support nose has no undercuts. This easy separability significantly reduces the manufacturing costs. Due to the use of the support of the axle carrying the roller, it can be dimensioned very thin in relation to the roller diameter, without the risk that it will sag under the influence of the tensile force exerted on the carrier tape. The same small axis diameter can be used with any label width, since several supports can be used along the axis if necessary. In all cases, the entire width of the carrier tape is stressed evenly at the dispensing edge, so that there is no risk of it tearing.
- the outside diameter of the rolls can again be kept small, so that a dispensing edge with a small radius of curvature is obtained, which detaches the self-adhesive labels from the tray well gerband ensures that the tape feed is not affected by the frictional torque between the rollers and the axis.
- axle carrying the rollers consists of tungsten or hardened steel, that the rollers are made of ruby, and that the axle is supported several times between its ends. With this configuration, the diameter of the axle can be reduced even further because of the use of the particularly wear-resistant materials.
- the labeling device shown in Fig. 1 contains a housing 1 with a handle 2. On the top of the housing there is a shaft 3 for receiving a supply roll 4 from a carrier tape 5 and self-adhesive labels 6 adhering to it.
- the carrier tape with the self-adhesive labels runs from the supply roll in the device 4 downwards and then forwards to a dispensing edge 7, from which the carrier tape 5 runs past a transport device 8 with strong deflection to the rear end of the housing.
- the path described is shown in broken lines in FIG. 1.
- a hand lever 9 is attached below the handle 2 and can be tightened against the handle 2 against the action of a spring 10.
- a printing unit 11 is pivoted against a printing table 12, so that an imprint can be produced on the label currently on the printing table.
- the transport device 8 is moved forward by one label length, i. H. 1 to the left in the view of FIG. During this forward movement, the transport device 8 is not in engagement with the carrier belt 5.
- the hand lever 9 is moved back into its starting position by the spring 10. This also brings about the return of the printing unit 11 to its starting position and a movement of the transport device 5 backwards by one label length, which is now pulled back by one label length due to an engagement between the transport device and the carrier tape.
- the self-adhesive label just printed detaches itself from the carrier tape at the dispensing edge and reaches a dispensing position below a pressure roller 13 attached to the front end of the device.
- the pressure roller 13 By unrolling the pressure roller 13, the self-adhesive label 6 can now be stuck to an object.
- FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of the dispensing edge support attached to the underside of the housing 1, which also carries the printing table 12 at the same time.
- the dispensing edge 7 is formed by several rolls 14 made of plastic, which are mounted on an axis 15 made of steel. The ends of the axis 15 are held by two arms 16 which are connected to one another by a web 17. The printing table is also located on this web.
- a support nose 18 is formed on the web 17, on which the axis 15 rests. The side of the support lug 18 facing the axis 15 is designed such that it partially surrounds the axis 15.
- the support lug 18 is shown more clearly. It consists of two halves 18a and 18b, laterally offset in the axial direction, against which the axis 15 abuts.
- the axis diameter Due to the support of the axis 15, it is possible to reduce the axis diameter to 0.6 mm with any label width. With this small diameter, correspondingly small rolls can be used without affecting the frictional torque between the rolls and the axis, so that a relatively «sharp dispensing edge is created, on which labels can be detached even at high transport speeds of the carrier tape and reach the dispensing position under the pressure roller. The labels show no tendency to fold over at the dispensing edge. With the dimensions mentioned, this favorable behavior can also be achieved if a cheaper carrier tape is used, to which the labels adhere more firmly due to less siliconization of the carrier tape surface.
- Polyamide has proven to be cheap as the material for the rolls 14.
- the diameter of the axis 15 can be reduced even further if materials are used as the material for the axis and the rollers which are more wear-resistant than the materials mentioned above. If, for example, tungsten or hardened steel is used for the axis 15 and ruby is used as the rolling material, the axis diameter can easily be reduced to below the above-mentioned value of 0.6 mm.
- this option proves to be very advantageous for further reducing the axle diameter. While maintaining a relatively sharp dispensing edge, that is, with the outside diameter of the rollers 14 unchanged, the influence of the frictional torque on the tensile force can be further reduced by reducing the axle diameter if the specified wear-resistant materials are used.
- the axis is supported several times between its ends using support lugs 18 of the type shown in FIG. 3.

Description
The invention relates to a device for printing, dispensing and attaching self-adhesive labels adhering to a carrier tape, with a transport device which gradually pulls the carrier tape around a dispensing edge which is formed by a roller-bearing axis, the ends of which are spaced apart by two , are held by arms connected by a bridge.
Such a device is known from US-A-3954545. In this known device, a label can be brought into the dispensing position by first tightening a hand lever and then releasing it again. In particular, it must be able to overcome the frictional forces that occur when the carrier tape is pulled around the dispensing edge. In the known device, a fixed axis provided with rollers is used as the dispensing edge, so that the pulling of the carrier tape around the dispensing edge only counteracts the friction between the inner surface of the roller and the circumferential surface of the axis. In order for the label on the dispensing edge to detach cleanly from the carrier tape, the dispensing edge must be designed as a sharp edge as possible. With the special shape of the dispensing edge described above, this requires the smallest possible outer diameter of the rolls. These rollers must be mounted on a correspondingly thin axis, so that there is a risk that the axis will bend under the influence of the tensile force exerted on the carrier tape.
Although this disadvantage could be compensated for by using an axle with a larger diameter for the same outer roller diameter, the frictional torque, with the increase in the axle diameter, has a greater effect on the tensile force to be used for the transport of the carrier tape. The smaller the axle diameter for a given roller outer diameter, the smaller the effect of the friction torque on the tensile force.
A label dispenser is known from FR-A-2 310 925, in which the dispensing edge does not run in a straight line, but is composed of segments which each run tangentially to an arc. There is a roller on the face of each rectilinear section and a spherical pearl is arranged between two adjacent rollers. A wire that connects the individual parts extends through the rollers and the pearls. The beads have the function of a joint, and they are each supported on a component that supports the dispensing edge.
The invention has for its object to provide a device of the type described in such a way that the part carrying the dispensing edge can be produced using a simple injection mold and that, regardless of the label width, small diameter rolls can be used to achieve a sharp dispensing edge and still the effects of the friction torque between the wheel and the axle are kept to a minimum.
This object is achieved in that the axle carrying the roller is provided between its ends with a support which counteracts the force exerted by the carrier tape on the axle in the form of an undercut-free support lug which lies against the axle and partially surrounds the axle.
Due to the inventive design of the support of the axle supporting the roller, the component in which the axle is mounted can be made of plastic using an injection mold that can be easily separated because the support nose has no undercuts. As a result of the use of a thin axis, the outside diameter of the rolls can again be kept small, so that a dispensing edge with a small radius of curvature is obtained, which detaches the self-adhesive labels from the tray well gerband ensures that the tape feed is not affected by the frictional torque between the rollers and the axis.
An advantageous development of the invention is that the axle carrying the rollers consists of tungsten or hardened steel, that the rollers are made of ruby, and that the axle is supported several times between its ends. With this configuration, the diameter of the axle can be reduced even further because of the use of the particularly wear-resistant materials.

- FIG. 2 shows a perspective illustration of the dispensing edge carrier,
- FIG. 3 shows a greatly enlarged detail from the illustration in FIG. 2, which shows the support region of the axle carrying the rollers, and

The labeling device shown in Fig. 1 contains a
Die der Achse 15 zugewandte Seite der Stütznase 18 ist dabei so ausgebildet, daß sie die Achse 15 teilweise umschließt.FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of the dispensing edge support attached to the underside of the
Due to the support of the
In a device that works with very wide labels, several support lugs can be attached to the
Due to the support of the
Polyamide has proven to be cheap as the material for the
The diameter of the
In order to prevent deflection of the extremely
