Description

The invention relates to an electric discharge lamp with an elongate discharge vessel made of ceramic and electrodes arranged at both ends in the discharge vessel according to the preamble of patent claim 1.

Derartige Entladungslampen sind aus der US-PS 3 992 642 bzw. 3 882 346 bekannt. Discharge lamps of this type are known from US Pat. Nos. 3,992,642 and 3,882,346, respectively. The power supply to the electrodes consists of a niobium wire, which is passed through the respective ceramic plate, in a vacuum-tight manner.

Discharge lamps are also known in practice, in which the power supply consists of niobium tubes which are welded to niobium sealing caps which encompass the ends of the discharge vessel. In all of these cases, the conductor cross-section was determined by the specified line - i.e. H. of the current to be enforced - determined.

If the sealing caps were made of the same metal as the power supply leads, the heating of the power supply leads did not pose any problems because the coefficients of thermal expansion were the same. If ceramic plates were used instead of the metal caps for the vacuum-tight sealing of the discharge vessel, the thermal stresses occurring due to the different coefficients of thermal expansion led to dilatation effects and ultimately to cracks in the area where the current conductors passed through the ceramic plates. With the formation of the power supply in the form of tubes - which have their own elasticity - the problems could not be reduced but not eliminated.

On the other hand, there were limits to increases in power, because the cross-section of the power supply lines could not be enlarged to keep the thermal stresses low.

In addition, the production costs for niobium tubes are comparatively high, so that economic limits also had to be taken into account.

The invention is therefore based on the object of designing the electric discharge lamp of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that, even with necessarily larger power line cross sections, no harmful thermal stresses occur between the power supply and the discharge vessel or the ceramic plates sealing the discharge vessel.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the features specified in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

Vorzugsweise Ausgestaltungen ergeben sich aus den Unteransprüchen.Refinements preferably result from the subclaims.

With the solution according to the invention it was possible to achieve that, on the one hand, by dividing the current conductor into several thin wires, the necessary total cross-sectional area for the power supply is available, but on the other hand, no harmful thermal stresses exist between the thin individual wires and the ceramic plates or the solder material enclosing the wires in a vacuum-tight manner occur.

The invention will be explained below using the exemplary embodiments in the drawings.

The invention is described below with the aid of the drawing.

Zur elektrischen Verbindung der Stromzuführungen 9 zum Lampensockel 7 dienen an einem Ende des Keramikentladungsrohres 3 ein Stromzuführungsbügel 1 und ein im Glaskolben 4 durch einen Stützring 12 abgestützter längerer Halter 2, und am anderen Ende des Entladungsrohres ein mit einem kürzeren Halter 5 verschweisster oder verlöteter Stromzuführungsbügel 6.FIG. 1 shows a discharge lamp designed according to the invention as an example, which contains a ceramic discharge tube 3 in a glass bulb 4 provided with lamp base 7, filled or evacuated with inert gas, the two ends of which are closed by end elements 8 made of ceramic. In the interior of the ceramic discharge tube 3 there are electrodes 11 at both ends, to which the current supply line is provided by current leads 9 consisting of filaments 10, expediently of niobium wires, which are individually vacuum-tightly passed through the terminating members 8 and are braided or twisted outside the discharge tube. A power supply bracket 1 and a longer holder 2 supported in the glass bulb 4 by a support ring 12, and at the other end of the discharge tube a power supply bracket 6 welded or soldered to a shorter bracket 5 serve for the electrical connection of the power supply lines 9 to the lamp base 7 .

In FIG. 2, one end of an electric discharge lamp with a ceramic discharge tube 3 according to the invention is shown in detail as an exemplary embodiment. Through the ceramic outlet The end tube 3 terminating ceramic 8 are made of four elementary threads 10 made of niobium wire current leads 9, the two threads are connected to the electrode 11 in the discharge space, both electrically and thermally conductive on its U-shaped bent part. The four elementary threads 10 protruding from the discharge space are twisted together and form a rigid arrangement in terms of strength.

The embodiment according to FIG. 2 is produced as follows:
  • Four holes are provided on the ceramic closure element 9 and two elementary threads 10 consisting of niobium wire, which are previously bent into a U-shape, are inserted into two holes each and soldered in a vacuum-tight manner with ceramic-like or glass-like solder. The U-shaped filaments 10 are welded to the electrode 11 on both sides. The filaments 10, expediently niobium wires, are twisted together at their free ends on the other side of the ceramic terminating element 8. In this way, a current supply 9 consisting of filaments 10, expediently made of niobium wires, is formed, which is thermally and electrically combined at both ends of the ceramic terminating element 8. The ceramic termination elements produced in this way are soldered together in a vacuum-tight manner with the ends of the ceramic discharge tube 3. In such an embodiment, the inner diameter of the ceramic discharge tube is 3.8 mm, the diameter of the niobium wire used is 0.5 mm, and the core diameter of the tungsten electrode is 1.2 mm for a high-pressure sodium vapor lamp of 220 V / 400 W.

9.In an exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3, four pieces of filaments 10, which are expediently made of niobium wire, are passed through the ceramic terminating element 8, which closes off the ceramic discharge tube 3. Of these, two filaments 10 are electrically short-circuited within the discharge space, and bent in a U-shape, in such a way that one filament 10, which is bent in a U-shape and expediently made of niobium, with the electrode 11, and the other also U -formally bent filament 10 is electrically connected to an auxiliary electrode 13. The free ends of the filaments 10 protruding from the discharge space are twisted in pairs outside the discharge space, and they serve as current leads 9a and 9.

In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 4, the power supply line 9 is made from three pieces of filaments 10 which are passed through the ceramic terminating element 8, which closes off the ceramic discharge tube 3. These are expediently made of niobium wire, in such a way that the three pieces of filaments 10 are connected to the electrode 11 at their ends projecting into the discharge space. The ends of the three filaments 10 protruding from the discharge space are twisted together outside the discharge space.

The invention is in no way limited to the exemplary embodiments described above. The invention can also be carried out in such a way that only two or more elementary threads, which expediently consist of niobium wire, are passed through the ceramic terminating element and thus form the electrical power supply for the lamp, this being able to be realized in numerous possible variations. This is possible in particular because the number of filaments and the dimensions of these filaments are closely related to the power of the electric discharge lamp and are extremely variable.

Practical investigations have shown that the cross-section of the filaments over 0.3 mm 2 should not be increased, especially when using niobium wire, because the harmful effects of the resulting thermal shock when using wires with higher cross-sections in the adhesive or Soldering zone in the ceramic terminating element has already caused cracks.

According to the invention, the power supply can consist of two, three, four, five, etc. filaments depending on the power of the lamp and can be of any shape.

With regard to the invention, the arrangement of the filaments that form the current supply is indifferent in the ceramic terminating element. It is only essential that the filaments are soldered separately into the ceramic terminating element, apart from the type of their arrangement. The centering of the electrodes, the support of them, and their welding are facilitated if even-numbered i.e. two or four uses each. Elementary threads are used. If you want to use one or more of the filaments as a power supply for an auxiliary electrode, the use of odd-numbered filaments is more advantageous in this case. In the latter case, in the sense of the invention, as described above, the power supply for the main electrode can be formed from at least two or more filaments. The diameter of the filaments forming the power supply and the profile thereof can be chosen freely within the limits mentioned. The wires can have a circular, triangular or square cross-section.
