Abstract
La presente invención describe métodos para tratar materiales celulósicos con una composición que proporciona hidrofobicidad incrementada a tales materiales sin sacrificar la biodegrabilidad de los mismos. Los métodos descritos proporcionan la esterificación de grupos hidroxilos disponibles en los materiales celulósicos, cuando dichos grupos hidroxilos están enmascarados mediante cadenas orgánicas voluminosas, incluyendo que la descripción proporciona productos elaborados mediante tales métodos. Por tanto, los materiales tratados muestran mayor hidrofobicidad, función de barrera, y propiedades mecánicas, y pueden ser utilizados en cualquier aplicación donde tales características sean deseadas.
