Abstract

The invention relates to a plate heat exchanger preferably for fluid media, in which, taking the mutual influence of profile design and distance between the heat transfer plates into consideration, an improvement is achieved in the possible ratio between the thermal power which can be transferred and the necessary transport power. This is achieved by virtue of the fact that the distances between the heat transfer plates and the length of the straight piece which connects the curved pieces of a profiled element are dimensioned in such a manner that the trajectories for the corresponding family of curves running through the points at which the curved pieces in a profiled element delimiting a flow duct section either run smoothly into one another or join smoothly the straight piece at points with the opposite sign for curvature in relation to the flow duct centre line intersect the flow duct centre line in such a manner that the longitudinal section of the flow duct centre line between the two intersection points for these is equal to half the length of the flow duct centre line in a flow duct section, and there exist at the same time among all the trajectories in a flow duct section at most three which have a curvature at none of the points lying on them. <IMAGE>
