Abstract

The invention relates to a device for preparing panels for assembly, the device comprising a first drilling unit and a second drilling unit, where the first and the second drilling unit area each are movable along offset axis', and where the first and the second drilling unit are adapted to be movable simultaneously.

Description

Device for preparing panel assembly Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to the area of joining panels in connection with door of window coverings or similar.
Background of the Invention
The typical process for preparing panels for an assembly comprises cutting the panels at the intended angles and successi vely placing these at the intended location, where they are fastened in relation to the surrounding structure. This may be a window frame structure or a door frame structure. Other uses are possible although not specifically mentioned here.
Spue to the often uneven underlying structure the final assembly may appear less attractive as the joint may present a gap or a displacement as a consequence of the unevenness.
Pue to tl^se often present circumstances and the hence often less attractive appearance of the finalised panel assembly there is a need for improvement of the panels assembly and the process and equipment for preparing such panel assemblies.
Object of the Invention
The objective of the present invention is to provide a device that will enable a smoother and more attractive assembly of panels.
Description of the Invention
According to the invention this is achieved through a device for preparing panels for assembly, the device comprising a first drilling unit and a second drilling unit, where the first and the second drilling unit area each are movable along offset axis’, and where the first and the second drilling unit are adapted to be movable simultaneously.
Due to the configuration of the drilling parts of the device it is possible to provide the relevant holes in the panels in a manner that facilitates the successive assembly and also when the joined assembly is placed on an uneven surface is capable of maintaining a smooth and attractive joint between tire two panels. in a preferred embodiment the axis of the first and the second drilling unit are offset by approximately 90 degrees. However other angles between the directions of the movement are fully within the scope of the overall protection. Most often such panel assemblies are used in relation to doors and windows with rectangular comer areas and hence the need is primarily a rectangular panel joint. However it is often experienced that such window's and doors are customised in shapes where the corner areas are not rectangular and in these situations it is obviously relevant to be able to deviate from the rectangular shape.
Preferably two first drilling devices are provided. This enables providing two taps for insertion in the respective panels, which will increase stability.
In one embodiment a manual actuator arrangement adapted to effect movement of the first drilling device and the second drilling device. in another embodiment the device comprises an electrically driven actuator arrangement adapted to effect movement of the first drilling device and the second drilling device. Further both pneumatically driven as well as hydraulically driven actuators may be foreseen for moving and controlling the drilling units.
As for the drilling units themselves these may be electrically driven, alternatively pneumatically or hydraulically driven. in an embodiment the actuator arrangement is adapted to effect a shorter movement of the second drilling device compared to the movement of the first drilling device. This will enable the provision of holes with different depths in the two areas of the panel.
In order to maintain a stable position of a panel a holding means is provided for holding a panel inserted into the device and placed in a position where it is ready for being provided with holes.
The objective is further achieved through a method for preparing an assembly of panels, the method comprising; preparing two panels, each with an end area and two or more side areas, preparing one or more holes in the end areas of each panel and further preparing holes in one of the side areas of each panel, inserting assembly taps in the holes in the end areas and joining the end areas and inserting a bracket in the holes in the side areas and providing a force to the panels by the bracket, hereby holding the two panel ends together.
The invention will be described in more detail in the following detailed description, with reference to the drawing, where:
Description of the Drawing FIG. 1 shows a frame of the device according to the fc FIG. 2 shows two panels prior to assembly; FIG. 3 shows a panel assembly; FIG. 4 shows in a schematic form the functionality of the device according to the invention; FIG. 5 shows in a schematic form an alternative functionality of the device according to the invent ion.
Detailed Description of the Invention
From FIG. 1 two panels 1,2 appear prior to the joining of these to form a panel assembly. The panels both have in the end faces to be joined two holes and two taps 13 have been inserted into the one panel. When joining the panels L2 the two taps extending out of the holes in the one panel will be inserted into the holes in the end face of the other panel.
In the rear feeing side area of each panel a Idle 14 is provided and being adapted to accommodate a clamping device (not shown) adapted ta hold the two end feces towards each other. Having joined the relevant number of panels at their end areas. normally three or four panels forming an arch or a frame, these are ready for -mounting. In the intended position and hereby providing a more attractive covering than previously known. Such assemblies are often used when covering door or mounted in a wail. However other uses are possible, such as frames for pictures, paintings or the like, hereby also creating a smooth transition between two joining panels. It should be mentioned that by panels any type of elongate object suitable for joining at an angle are included.
The assembly described in connection with FIG. I is shown in its assembled state in FIG. 2.
From FIG. 3 the function of the device according to the invention appears in a sche--mat te form. The two drilling units 3,4 are offset by an angle of approximately 90 degrees and a handle 7 is provided for actuating a mechanical link connection 5,6 that moves the drilling units 3,4 in their horizontal add vertical
From FIG. 4 an alternative configuration of the device appears. The drilling units 3,4 are maintained in the same positions as'described in connection with FIG. 3, but the actuation of the drilling units is effected by means of actuators 8,9, which may be: electrically, pneumatically or hydraulically driven. The drilling units 3,4 themselves are preferably electrically driven, however alternative driving means may be provided, such as pneumatic or hydraulic driving means.
The actuator movement is initiated by activator means 10, connecting a power source to the actuator (electrical power, pneumatic or hydraulic power) through connectors 11,12.
From FIG. 5 a part of a frame of a device according to the invention appears. The Fame comprises on its upper side an angled guide de\ice U\ which will ensure the right, angle of the panel 1.2 inserted for preparation. A holding device 17 is provided for holdihg the pane! in a fixed position when the dorreet position of the panel has been reached.
