Abstract
The present invention relates to a connection of two shafts, for example a driving shaft and a driven shaft in a wind turbine. In particular, the invention relates to a connection assembly to lock the two shafts together making use of shrink disc assembly reinforced by a band. The two shafts are inter-connectable by connecting an interconnection part of the first shaft and an interconnection part of the second shaft. The band is positioned and wound around an outer surface of the shrink disc assembly. The shafts are locked together by providing pressure to the interconnection parts from the reinforced shrink disc assembly.
Claims (21)
1. A connection assembly for connecting a first shaft and a second shaft, the connection assembly comprising: - a first shaft with a length in a longitudinal direction; - a second shaft with a length in the longitudinal direction, the first shaft and the second shaft being inter-connectable by connecting an interconnection part of the first shaft and an interconnection part of the second shaft; - a shrink disc assembly positioned and adapted so as to lock the first shaft to the second shaft by transferring moment between the first and second shafts by friction by providing pressure to the interconnection parts of the first and second shaft when the interconnection parts are interconnected; and - a band wound around an outer circumferential surface of the shrink disc assembly to reinforce the shrink disc assembly.

The connection assembly according to claim 1, wherein the shrink disc assembly comprises an inner ring and an outer ring where the pressure is provided to the interconnection parts by pulling the outer ring and the inner ring together, wherein the weight of the outer ring is between 1.5 times the weigth of the inner ring and 3 times the weight of the inner ring.
3. The connection assembly according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the assembly comprises a plurality of band windings.
4. The connection assembly according to claim 3, wherein adjacent individual windings of the plurality of windings at least partly overlap.
5. The connection assembly according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the band further comprises a locking means for fixing the band to the outer circumferential surface of the shrink disc assembly.
6. The connection assembly according to any of the claim 3-5, wherein a varying tension is provided to the individual windings of the plurality of windings.

The connection assembly according to any of the preceding claims, wherein a first tension is provided to a first plurality of windings and at least a second reduced tension is provided to at least a second plurality of winding, the first plurality of windings being positioned closer to the outer circumferential surface of the shrink disc assembly than the at least second plurality of windings.
8. The connection assembly according to any of the preceding claims, wherein two or more bands are wound around the outer circumferential surface of the shrink disc assembly.
9. The connection assembly according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the band covers at least 80% of the width of the outer circumferential surface of the shrink disc assembly.
10. The connection assembly according to any of the preceding claims for connection of a driving shaft to a gearbox.
11. A wind turbine comprising a connection assembly according to any of the preceding claims.
12. A tool adapted to carry a band and a holding means for holding the band with a counter force during winding of the banding, the tool being adapted carry the band during winding the band onto a connection assembly in accordance with any of the claims 1 to 11.
13. The tool according to claim 12 further comprising a heating section for heating the band prior to winding the band around the outer circumferential surface of the shrink disc assembly.
14. A method for connecting a first shaft and a second shaft, the connection assembly comprising: - a first shaft with a length in a longitudinal direction; - a second shaft with a length in the longitudinal direction, the first shaft and the second shaft being inter-connectable by connecting an interconnection part of the first shaft and an interconnection part of the second shaft; - a shrink disc assembly; and - a band; wherein the method comprises: - interconnecting the interconnection parts of the first shaft and the second shaft; - positioning the shrink disc assembly around an outer circumferential surface enclosing the interconnection parts of the first shaft and second shaft; - positioning the band around an outer circumferential surface of the shrink disc assembly; - mounting the shrink disc assembly to lock the first shaft to the second shaft by transferring moment between the first and second shafts by friction by providing pressure to the interconnection parts of the first and second shaft.
15. The method according to claim 14, wherein the winding of the band is so that the band comprises a plurality of windings, wherein the band is wound so that adjacent individual windings of the plurality of windings at least partly overlap.
16. The method according to any of the claims 14-15, further comprising fixing the band to the outer circumferential surface enclosing the interconnection parts of the first shaft and second shaft by applying a locking means to the band.
17. The method according to any of the claim 15-16, wherein a varying tension is provided to the individual windings of the plurality of windings.
18. The method according to any of the claims 14-17, wherein the band is heated during the winding around the interconnection parts.
19. The method according to any of the claims 14-18, wherein the band is carried by a tool comprising a holding means for holding the band with a counter force during the winding of the band so as to provide tension to the band windings.
20. The method according to any of the claims 14-19 for connecting a driving shaft to a gearbox, wherein the rotation of the interconnection parts during the winding of the band is done by driving the gearbox.
