There are currently no known aids that enable disabled people with universal folding wheelchairs to be transported on moving escalators and that are not an integral part of the escalator itself. The only known aids are so-called "luggage trolleys" that allow luggage to be transported on escalators.

Task

The invention specified in claim 1 is based on the task of creating a mobile transport device that allows the transport of universal folding wheelchairs on escalators without interfering with the operation of the escalator or stopping the escalator.

Advantages

The invention supports the integration of wheelchair users and increases their mobility. The invention allows wheelchair users to access buildings and facilities that are not equipped with elevators but are equipped with escalators (department stores, train stations, etc.).

The ramps 1 are pivotably mounted on the frame to enable loading and unloading. At the same time, they compensate for differences in level (e.g. when driving onto subway and suburban train cars). During the transport process, the ramps are secured by locking pins 9.

2 refers to the trough, formed e.g. by struts of the frame, into which the rear wheels of the wheelchair drive (Figure 3, Image 1). The trough is geometrically designed so that the wheelchair is only slightly above the ground surface and the load center of gravity is within the starting area of the chassis in every position. A tipping moment is therefore excluded.

Locks 3 lock the wheelchair in the tilted position (Figure 3, Image 2) and ensure a normal sitting position during the journey.

The brake 4 blocks the rear wheels 8 and prevents the escalator trolley from rolling away when loading and unloading.

The rack 5 attached to the frame creates a positive and frictional connection with the escalator during travel (Figure 3, Image 3).

The deflection rollers 6 ensure a smooth transition from the escalator to the floor level and prevent the escalator from becoming blocked.

The 360° rotating steering wheel 7 enables smooth manoeuvring.

Claims (10)

Escalator trolley for transporting universal folding wheelchairs on escalators, characterized in that a folding wheelchair is fixed on the escalator trolley and is thereby set at an incline that corresponds to that of the escalator to be overcome.
