Description
Process for roughening the surfaces of objects made of aluminum alloys for the purpose of applying firmly adhering galvanic chromium deposits It is known that thick chrome layers on light metals only adhere if the surface of the light metal is roughened.
The roughening can either be done by mechanical processing (sandblasting) or by a chemical pickling treatment. For this purpose, be alkaline Copper solutions, zincate pickling and acidic pickling (iron, nickel-manganese chloride pickling and hydrofluoric acid pickling) with various additives. When chrome plating However, Al-Mg alloys fail these well-known pickling treatments: the chrome layers do not adhere to the surface and peel off in the chrome plating bath. In such Cases in which a direct chrome plating of the light metal is not possible, one often works with intermediate layers. Light metal cylinders for internal combustion engines were often chrome-plated in such a way that a thin layer of copper was used before the chrome-plating was deposited on your light metal. The production of intermediate layers however, naturally complicates the process, so that the aim is to use intermediate layers to avoid.
Thorough research has shown that the above-mentioned poor adhesion of chromium when working without intermediate layers due to a the light metal surface is not sufficiently uniformly roughened.
The aim was therefore to find a new stain that would be uniform Roughening of the surface of A1-Mg alloys ensured, independently the magnesium content and structure.
Beizt man z. According to the invention it is now proposed that the surfaces to be roughened of objects made of aluminum-magnesium alloys in a preferably semi-concentrated To treat copper chloride solution, whereupon the precipitated on the surface Copper is removed again in a known manner by treatment in nitric acid. If you pickle z. B. the surfaces of objects made of aluminum-magnesium alloys of any magnesium content and structural condition in semi-concentrated copper chloride solution at room temperature for 30 seconds, the deposited copper then dissolves in nitric acid from, you get a uniform, finely fissured surface on which flawlessly smooth, well-adhering chrome layers can be produced without any intermediate layer can. In itself, the use of copper chloride solutions for roughening the surfaces of objects made of aluminum and aluminum alloys known as pre-treatment for the subsequent application of paint, but only completely Diluted hydrochloric acid copper chloride solutions are used for subsequent chrome plating out of the question.
