Die Wirkung der nacheilenden Ströme auf das Netz und den Transformator selber sind bekannt, und man hat sich von jeher bemüht, sie durch neben den Transformator aufgestellte Blindleistungskompensatoren, wie z. B. Kondensatoren, auszugleichen.
