Abstract
Sensors (6,7,8) are integrated in a seat (1) of the motor vehicle for detecting the force exerted by an occupant. A memory (11) stores a curve representing the typical variation with time of the force exerted while a person is getting in. The actual process is compared with the stored curve to determine the identity of the occupant. The weight and/or weight distribution of the occupant may also be determined.
