Abstract

A lightweight armoured mesh, for body armour or for protecting vehicles and equipment, has a basic woven structure of carbon fibres which are coated with a metal matrix compound (MMC) in the micron thickness range, and which provides some protection against penetration. The mesh can be further protected by thin ceramic plates embedded in a foam rubber layer. The mesh can be supplied in a square sections which are joined to form the required size.
