Abstract
Description
Bluetooth technology was developed for wireless communication between electronic devices. Mobile devices that are equipped with Bluetooth chips (e.g. computers, printers, cell phones, measuring instruments, etc.) can exchange data with each other over a short distance in a network. The typical range of a radio connection between two Bluetooth modules is 10 m. Due to legal regulations, the transmission power must not exceed 1 mW.
For many applications, however, it is necessary to store data over large distances (e.g. up to 100 m) to be transferred. In such an application, are both devices static d. H. Not mobile (weather sensors on a mast, connection between two buildings, Surveillance cameras, security systems etc.) such routes could indeed be Directional radio can be bridged, but the use of a cable is for such distances cost-effective.
Networks such as "Wireless LAN" up to 30 m, and proprietary technologies or technologies based on "Wireless LAN" such as IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet) for microwave links are available on the market (range up to 16 km). B. from the company Gemtek (http: / / www.gemtek.com.tw/). All of these systems work like Bluetooth in the 2.4 GHz ISM (Industrial Scientific Medicine) band.
By using a Bluetooth module with a suitable directional radio antenna (e.g. a parabolic mirror antenna or a Yagi antenna, d. H. an arrangement of rod antennas with directional characteristic), the range of the radio connection between two Increase devices. The Bluetooth modules are "misused" here as a bridge Network capabilities of the two modules involved are usually not used.
Vorteile
benefits
- a) Viel kleinere Kosten im Vergleich zu herkömmlichen proprietären oder "Wireless LAN" Technologien, durch die Verwendung der Bluetooth Technologie.a) Much lower costs compared to conventional proprietary or "wireless LAN" Technologies through the use of Bluetooth technology.
- b) Grössere Abhörsicherheit als "Wireless LAN" Lösungen.b) Greater security against eavesdropping than "wireless LAN" solutions.
- c) Bluetooth Verbindung über grössere Strecken als 10 m.c) Bluetooth connection over distances greater than 10 m.
- a) Geringere Übertragungsrate als konventionelle Systeme.a) Lower transmission rate than conventional systems.
The directional radio link works as a bridge, between two devices, not as a network. The Communication is only possible between two participants. However, these can be used as Act as gateway to a network.
- c) Verbindung nur zwischen statischen Geräten, da eine Ausrichtung der Richtfunkantenne notwendig ist.c) Connection only between static devices, since an alignment of the directional radio antenna necessary is.
Fig. 1 shows a first embodiment of the invention in which a personal computer communicates the first device 11 with a weather station as the second device 12 via a radio link. Directional fast antennas 21 , 22 are connected to the transmitting / receiving units provided for the data transmission according to the Bluetooth standard and coupled to the devices 11 , 12 . The signals which are generated by the transmitting / receiving units are passed directly to the directional radio antennas 21 , 22 and emitted by them. Since the transmitter / receiver units of Bluetooth modules already include an HF radio part, additional amplifiers are not necessary, but can be provided to increase the range.
Fig. 2 shows a radio link between a first device 11 and second device 12 which is coupled to a network 30 and a gateway for communication between the network 30 and the first device 11 is used. The network 30 can be, for example, a Bluetooth network (as in FIG. 2) or an Ethernet network, with the exception of the stationary second device 12, all other devices of the network 30 can be mobile. In Fig. 3 an inventive radio link between an Ethernet network 31 and a Bluetooth network 32 is shown.
Fig. 4 shows a radio link with a repeater 4 , with the z. B. around house corners or around other obstacles. Such a relay station can be operated with a single Bluetooth module, thanks to its network capabilities, if an antenna design with two preferred reception / radiation directions is used. In this case, the repeater 4 communicates with the two other modules 11 , 12 , which have no direct connection to one another.
