Die Filterung der Anrufer wird dadurch ermöglicht, daß dem Angerufenen, der seinerseits über seine Kennung identifizierbar ist, eine individuelle Filterdatei zugeordnet wird, die eine Liste mit Kennungen, im Falle des Telephonnetzes mit Telephonnummern, enthält. Die Kennung des Anrufers wird nun im Falle eines Anrufes mit der Liste des Angerufenen verglichen. Falls die Kennung oder zumindest ein definierter Teil der Kennung in der Liste gespeichert ist, wenn also ein Auswahlkriterium vorliegt, reagiert das System in vorher festlegbarer Weise. Ist die identifizierte Kennung beispielsweise mit einem negativen Eintrag oder Status versehen, so erlaubt das System keine Verbindung zum Angerufenen und teilt diese Tatsache dem Anrufer mit. In der Filterdatei kann neben oder statt einer solchen Negativliste auch eine Positivliste gespeichert sein, in der die Kennungen gespeichert sind, die bevorzugt oder überhaupt zum Angerufenen durchgeschaltet werden. Die Einträge in der Filterdatei können nach dem Wunsch des Teilnehmers vorgenommen werden.
