Abstract

1. Device for manufacturing tobacco filaments by extruding a moist mixture based on tobacco particles, by means of a screw extruder (1) fitted with a die consisting of a plate transverse to the extrusion axis and incorporating a plurality of orifices of small cross-section for forming filaments, characterised in that the die consists of a gridwork (6) formed by taut intercrossed wires of rounded cross-section and the gridwork (6) is placed at the outlet of a cylindrical duct (3) of a diameter which is sufficient for the extrusion pressure not to produce drying of the mixture, and the length of which is between 0.5 and 3 times the diameter, the material firstly forming in the cylindrical duct (3) a plug (5) which is subsequently divided into filaments by the gridwork (6).
