Description

Pencil protector
Technical Field
The present invention relates generally to pencil transport systems and, more particularly, to a pencil protection device for reducing the risk of damage during pencil transport, such as in a children's backpack.
Background
Pencil transport systems are well known in the art and are an effective means of carrying pens, pencils, and the like. For example, FIG. 1 shows a conventional system 101 having a carrying bag 103 with one or more pencils 105,107 secured in the carrying bag 103 for transport. During use, the user places the pencils 105,107 into the carrying bag 103 and continues to carry the desired items, for example, in a backpack or the like.
One of the problems typically associated with system 101 is damage to the pencil. For example, in a children's backpack, the pencil is easily damaged or broken.
Thus, despite the great advances made in the art of pencil transport systems, a number of deficiencies remain.
Disclosure of Invention

Detailed Description
Illustrative embodiments of the system and method of use of the present application are provided below. It will of course be appreciated that in the development of any such actual embodiment, numerous implementation-specific decisions should be made to achieve the developers' specific goals, such as compliance with system-related and business-related constraints, which will vary from one implementation to another. Moreover, it will be appreciated that such a development effort might be complex and time-consuming, but would nevertheless be a routine undertaking for those of ordinary skill in the art having the benefit of this disclosure.
The system and method of use according to the present application overcome one or more of the above-described conventional problems associated with conventional pencil transport systems. In particular, the present invention provides a device sized and shaped to receive a single pencil therein, wherein the device provides protection for the pencil. These and other unique features of the system and method of use are discussed below and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
The structure and operation of the system and method of use will be understood from the accompanying drawings, taken in conjunction with the accompanying description. Several embodiments of the system are presented herein. It should be understood that various components, parts, and features of the different embodiments may be combined and/or interchanged with one another, all within the scope of the present application even though not all variations and specific embodiments are shown in the drawings. It is also to be understood that the mixing and matching of features, elements and/or functions between various embodiments is expressly contemplated herein so that one of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate from this disclosure that features, elements and/or functions of one embodiment may be incorporated into another embodiment as appropriate (unless otherwise specified).
The preferred embodiments described herein are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise forms disclosed. It is chosen and described in order to explain the principles of the invention and its application and practical use to enable others skilled in the art to follow its teachings.
Reference is now made to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals identify corresponding or similar elements throughout the several views. Fig. 2A and 2B depict front views of a pencil protection system 201 according to a preferred embodiment. It should be appreciated that the system 201 overcomes one or more of the conventional problems listed above in connection with conventional pencil transport systems.
In a contemplated embodiment, the system 201 includes a pencil protection device 203 having an elongated tube 205, the elongated tube 205 having a cap 207, the cap 207 configured to be removably secured to the elongated tube 205 by threaded connections 209 a-b. In the preferred embodiment, elongated tube 205 is formed from a single mold and is constructed of a transparent material (e.g., plastic) to provide visibility to interior 211 for the user. It should be understood that the tube 205 must be thick enough to provide durability to withstand the threaded connection.
The device 203 is configured to receive the pencil 213 to protect the pencil 213 during transport. In the preferred embodiment, the device 203 includes one or more rubber grommets 215 to provide cushioning and protection to the pencil 213.
In fig. 3, the front view further depicts the device 203, wherein the tube 205 comprises a first end 301 and a second end 303. As shown in the cross-sectional views of fig. 4 and 5, the body 401 of the tube 205 is substantially square at a first location (a) near the top of the tube 205 and substantially circular at a second location (B) near the bottom of the tube 205, where the body 401 tapers between the two shapes.
In a preferred embodiment, the body 401 has an outer diameter 501 of about 0.447 inches. Small variations in the outer diameter (e.g., variations in the range from 0.4 inch to 0.6 inch) will provide the same function and benefit. The inner diameter 403 may be approximately 0.323 inches, however, a range from 0.30 inches to 0.50 inches provides the same functionality and benefits.
Further, the overall length of the elongated tube 205 with the cap 207 affixed thereto should be about 8 inches, with minor variations providing the same form and function. It should be understood that this length and slight variations thereof are suitable for accommodating standard pencils having a length of 7.5 inches and still allow the device and pencil to be contained in a standard pencil case or pouch (as is commonly sold).
Fig. 6 shows a top view of the lid 207, wherein the second gasket 601 is fixed inside the lid 207. Also, in the preferred embodiment, the cover 207 is hexagonal in shape as shown.
It should be understood that one of the unique features believed characteristic of the present application is the size and material of the means 203, which provides a means suitable for receiving and providing protection for the pencil therein.
Referring to fig. 7, a flow chart 701 illustrates a method of use of the system 201. During use, the cap is removed from the elongate tube, as shown in blocks 703,705, wherein a pencil can be inserted therein. As shown in block 707,709, a cover is secured to the elongated tube to protect the pencil during transport (e.g., in a children's backpack).
In fig. 8A and 8B, a front view shows an alternative embodiment of a pencil protection arrangement 801. It should be understood that the teachings and features discussed above may be incorporated into the apparatus 801. In this embodiment, the apparatus 801 is divided into two components 803,805, wherein one component 805 comprises an elongate sleeve 807, the elongate sleeve 807 being configured to engage with an interior 809 of the component 803 to secure the two components together. In this embodiment, cover 811 is integrally and permanently attached to component 803. This embodiment may also include rubber washers 813,815 for protecting the pencil (not shown).
The particular embodiments disclosed above are illustrative only, as the embodiments may be modified and practiced in different but equivalent manners apparent to those skilled in the art having the benefit of the teachings herein. It is therefore evident that the particular embodiments disclosed above may be altered or modified and all such variations are considered within the scope and spirit of the application. Accordingly, the protection sought herein is as set forth in the specification. Although the present embodiments are shown above, they are not limited to these embodiments, but various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit thereof.
