Description
本发明一般涉及含有被分散在含水介质中的共聚物颗粒,和不饱和脂肪酸酯的含水共聚物组合物。该共聚物颗粒含有聚合的甲基丙烯腈,丙烯腈,或其它选择单体。该含水共聚物组合物用于制备干燥涂层,后者同时具有良好的薄膜形成性能,和良好的抗粘连性。本发明还涉及从含水共聚物组合物制备涂料的方法。
涂料组合物,比如乳胶漆,含有分散在含水介质中的粘结剂聚合物颗粒。在干燥之后,聚合物颗粒经历薄膜形成过程,其中粘结剂聚合物颗粒聚结而形成聚合物膜。然而,许多粘结剂聚合物颗粒在环境温度,如在5℃到40℃范围内的温度下无法成膜。典型地,凝结剂被引入到些涂料组合物中以协助粘结剂聚合物颗粒在环境温度下的成膜过程。通常的凝结剂的例子包括乙二醇单烷基醚,酯,二酯,二甘醇单烷基醚,和丙二醇单烷基芳族醚。在膜形成后,该凝结剂逐渐从干燥漆膜中蒸发而留下具有所需物理性能的涂层,如硬度,耐溶剂性,抗粘连性,或耐水性。
挥发性有机化合物(VOC)释放到大气中已经被确定为在对流层臭氧的形成中的影响因素,尤其在市区中。在许多涂料应用中,VOC的来源包括从正在干燥或已干燥的漆膜中蒸发的凝结剂,助溶剂,或其它有机化合物。能够以较低量的VOC配制的涂料组合物是所期望的,尤其,具有零VOC的涂料组合物。然而,凝结剂从涂料组合物中的除去会不利地影响粘结剂聚合物颗粒的成膜性能和所获得的干膜的性能。非挥发性的增塑剂在涂料组合物中的包含有助于膜形成,但削弱了膜性能如抗粘连性或抗污性。所期望的是能够以较低量的VOC配制的含水涂料组合物,它能够提供具有可接受的抗粘连性的干膜。
WO 00/56823公开了含有聚合物颗粒和凝结助剂的成膜组合物。该凝结助剂是不饱和脂肪酸的酯。该参考文献公开了从聚合物颗粒制备的并含有不饱和脂肪酸酯作为凝结助剂的半光泽性漆配制料和无光漆配制料的例子。从半光泽的漆料配制料制备的干膜的抗粘连性具有改进的抗粘连性,与从含有挥发性凝结剂而不是不饱和脂肪酸酯的半光泽的漆料配制料制备的干膜相比。然而,从无光漆配制料制备的干膜具有较低的抗粘连性,与从含有挥发性凝结剂代替不饱和脂肪酸酯的无光漆配制料制备的干膜相比。
所想望的是一种含水涂料组合物,它提供具有改进水平的抗粘连性的干膜并且还能够以较低量的VOC来配制。
发明人已经吃惊地发现了可提供具有改进的抗粘连性的干膜的含水共聚物组合物。含水共聚物组合物含有不饱和脂肪酸酯与含有某些作为聚合单元的单体的共聚物颗粒的结合物。该含水共聚物组合物能够以较低水平的VOC(包括零VOC)来配制。
根据本发明的第一个方面,提供了含水共聚物组合物,该组合物包括共聚物颗粒和一种或多种不饱和脂肪酸酯,该共聚物颗粒含有作为聚合单元的以下单体(基于共聚物颗粒的重量):5-60wt%的选自(甲基)丙烯腈,(甲基)丙烯酰胺,或它们的结合物中的第一种单体,25-95wt%的非离子单体,和0-15wt%的阴离子单体;其中该共聚物颗粒具有在零至70℃的范围内的玻璃化转变温度。

包括在含水共聚物组合物中的共聚物颗粒是由烯属不饱和单体的聚合反应所形成的加成聚合物。这里使用的“共聚物”是指含有两种或更多种不同类型的单体作为聚合单元的聚合物。不同类型的单体单元可以无规地分布在共聚物骨架上而成为无规共聚物,或成为嵌段共聚物,它含有一种类型的聚合单体的嵌段跟有不同的聚合单体的嵌段。共聚物颗粒的玻璃化转变温度是在0℃到70℃范围内,优选在15℃至50℃范围内,和更优选在20℃至40℃范围内。共聚物颗粒的平均直径典型地是在50至500纳米(nm)范围内,优选在80至300nm范围内,和更优选在100至250nm范围内。平均粒径是由准弹性光散射技术测量,如由例如Brookhaven Instruments Corp的Model BI-90颗粒分级机所提供。含有共聚物颗粒的分散体可具有单峰或多峰,包括双峰形粒度分布。
该共聚物颗粒包括作为聚合单元的选自(甲基)丙烯腈,(甲基)丙烯酰胺,或它们的结合物中的一种或多种第一单体。在共聚物颗粒中所含有的已聚合的第一单体的量典型地是在5-60wt%,优选8-50wt%,和更优选10-40wt%的范围内,基于共聚物颗粒的重量。

在共聚物颗粒中聚合的非离子单体的合适水平包括25-95wt%,优选35-92wt%,和更优选,45-90wt%,基于该共聚物颗粒的重量。

典型地,具有任选的侧挂交联基团的共聚物颗粒含有作为聚合单元的交联用单体,含量在0-15mol%,优选在1-10mol%,和更优选1-5mol%范围内,基于在共聚物颗粒中所含的总聚合单体。

在一个实施方案中,该共聚物颗粒是通过两阶段的乳液聚合过程来制备。在两阶段聚合过程中,通过第一单体混合物的含水乳液聚合反应形成第一聚合物的颗粒来制备第一聚合物。接着,在第一聚合物颗粒的存在下由第二单体混合物的含水乳液聚合反应得到共聚物颗粒来制备第二聚合物。第一单体可以包括在第一单体混合物中,在第二单体混合物中,或同时在两种单体混合物中。可用于含水共聚物组合物中的两阶段共聚物颗粒具有各种形态,其中包括芯/壳,橡子,互穿聚合物,在连续聚合物相内的多个小聚合物畴,或多叶片式形态。
本发明的含水共聚物组合物也含有至少一种不饱和脂肪酸酯。不饱和脂肪酸酯是凝结剂并降低了共聚物颗粒的最低成膜温度。不饱和脂肪酸酯在大气氧存在下也是可以自动氧化的。尽管不受理论的束缚,可以相信,在从含水共聚物组合物形成干膜之后,不饱和脂肪酸酯的氧化会导致不饱和脂肪酸酯的凝结活性的降低或失去,进而导致干膜增加了硬度。

制备不饱和脂肪酸酯的合适来源包括从植物来源如玉米油,棉子油,花生油,橄榄油,蓖麻油,脱水蓖麻油,小麦胚油,罂粟籽油,红花油,豆油,和向日葵籽油衍生的不饱和脂肪酸或不饱和脂肪酸的混合物。
在一个实施方案中,在含水共聚物组合物中所含的不饱和脂肪酸酯或不饱和脂肪酸酯的混合物进一步的特征在于具有至少50,优选至少80,和更优选至少100的平均碘值。该平均碘值是不饱和脂肪酸酯或不饱和脂肪酸酯的混合物的不饱和度的量度,并通过使用ASTM方法1959-97来测定的。
在不同的实施方案中,本发明的含水共聚物组合物含有低于10wt%的三不饱和的脂肪酸酯,优选,低于8wt%,和更优选至少低于5wt%,基于在含水共聚物组合物中所含有的不饱和脂肪酸酯的总重量。低于10wt%三不饱和肪酸酯的使用,基于在含水共聚物组合物中的不饱和脂肪酸酯的总重量,被认为可以最大程度地减少在从含水共聚物组合物制备的干膜的黄色形成。
在该含水共聚物组合物中,共聚物颗粒的合适水平是在5-70wt%,优选10-65wt%范围内,和更优选,在15-55wt%范围内,基于含水共聚物组合物的重量。在含水共聚物组合物中一种或多种不饱和脂肪酸酯的合适水平是在0.1-5wt%,优选0.25-4wt%范围内,和更优选,在0.3-3wt%范围内,基于含水共聚物组合物的重量。该含水共聚物组合物典型地包括20-79wt%含水介质,基于含水共聚物组合物的重量。该含水介质含有水,任选的水溶性的溶剂如醇或酮;和任选的溶解或增溶化的物质如盐或表面活性剂。
挥发性有机化合物(“VOC”)在这里被定义为在大气压力下具有低于280℃的沸点的含碳化合物。化合物如水和氨是从VOC中排除。
本发明的含水共聚物组合物含有低于5wt%的VOC,基于含水共聚物组合物的总重量;优选该含水共聚物组合物含有低于3wt%的VOC,基于含水共聚物组合物的总重量;更优选该含水共聚物组合物含有低于1.7wt%的VOC,基于含水共聚物组合物的总重量。这里的“低VOC”含水共聚物组合物是含有低于5wt% VOC的含水共聚物组合物,基于含水共聚物组合物的总重量;优选它含有在0.01wt%-1.7wt%的VOC,基于含水共聚物组合物的总重量。
另外,该低VOC含水共聚物组合物任选地含有不是VOC的凝固剂。凝固剂是一种化合物,它被添加到水性乳液聚合物,漆料或涂料中以便使乳液聚合物、漆料或涂料的最低成膜温度降低至少1℃。非VOC凝固剂因此被定义为凝固剂,它在大气压力下具有高于280℃的沸点。
漆料或涂料制备的典型方法会引入来自含有具有侧挂交联基团的共聚物颗粒的含水分散体中的外来VOC,生物杀伤剂,消泡剂,皂,分散剂,和增稠剂。这些典型地达到0.1wt% VOC,基于含水共聚物组合物的总重量。附加的方法如蒸汽抽提和含有低VOC的添加剂如生物杀伤剂、消泡剂、皂、分散剂和增稠剂的选择适合于进一步降低该含水共聚物组合物到低于0.01% VOC,基于含水共聚物组合物的总重量。
另外,该含水共聚物组合物任选包括其它组分,其中包括其它聚合物,表面活性剂,颜料,增量剂,染料,珠光剂,粘合促进剂,交联剂,分散剂,消泡剂,均化剂,荧光增白剂,紫外线稳定剂,吸收性着色剂,凝结剂,流变性能改性剂,防腐剂,生物杀伤剂,具有内空隙的聚合物颗粒,和抗氧化剂,前提条件是含水共聚物组合物含有低于5wt%的VOC。自氧化能够通过金属离子催化剂如钴,锆,钙,锰,铜,锌和铁的使用来进一步增强。可以使用简单盐如卤化物,硝酸盐,和硫酸盐,但在很多情况下可以使用有机阴离子如乙酸根,环烷酸根或乙酰丙酮酸根。
在本发明的含水共聚物组合物中的合适颜料水平包括从零到70体积%,优选零到40体积%,和更优选,从2到25体积%的范围,基于在含水共聚物组合物中所含的颜料和聚合物的总体积。
从本发明的含水共聚物组合物制备涂层的方法包括:将含水共聚物组合物施涂到基材上;和干燥已施涂于基材上的含水共聚物组合物或让它干燥,制备涂层。在氧存在下,不饱和脂肪酸酯可参与反应,导致不饱和脂肪酸酯的凝结活性的降低或失去。
该含水共聚物组合物适合于施涂到基材上以制备干涂层。各种技术用于将含水共聚物组合物施涂于基材上,其中包括,例如,刷涂,辊涂,刮涂,浸渍,用刀或泥铲,幕涂,和喷涂法,例如,空气雾化的喷涂,空气辅助的喷涂,无气喷涂,高容量低压喷涂,和空气辅助的无气喷涂。所施涂的含水共聚物组合物的湿涂层厚度可以是在1微米至250微米之间。该含水共聚物组合物是作为单涂层或多涂层被施涂到基材上。在施涂后,该施涂含水共聚物组合物典型地在环境条件下干燥或另外通过施加热量干燥,以提供干燥涂层。干燥典型地在环境条件下,例如在0℃到35℃下进行。
该含水共聚物组合物适合施涂于各种基材上,其中包括加工的木材,如中密度纤维板,粗纸板,层压材料;矿物基材,如砖石建筑,水泥,纤维水泥,水泥石棉,石膏,石膏板,上釉和未上釉的陶瓷;金属基材,如镀锌铁,镀锌钢,冷轧钢,Zincalum金属,Zincalum II金属,铝,锻铁,落锻的钢,不锈钢;预先涂漆的或涂底涂层的表面(新鲜的,老化的或风化的),其中包括但不限于丙烯酸类涂层,乙烯基丙烯酸类涂层,苯乙烯丙烯酸类涂层,粉末涂料涂敷的表面,溶剂丙烯酸类涂层,醇酸树脂涂层,溶剂尿烷涂层,环氧涂层;纤维素基材,如纸和纸板;玻璃;沥青;皮革;墙板;非编织材料;和合成基材,如聚氯乙烯,聚偏氯乙烯,聚乙烯,和聚丙烯。
从含水共聚物组合物制备的干燥涂层适合作为保护涂层或美观性涂层。合适涂料的例子包括建筑涂料,如内部和外部漆涂料,其中包括砖石建筑涂料,木材涂料和处理剂;地板抛光剂;维护涂料,如金属涂料;纸张涂料;和交通涂料,如用于在道路、人行道、和跑道上提供标记的那些涂料。
下列实施例用于说明本发明的组合物和方法。这些实施例协助本领域中的那些技术人员理解本发明。然而本发明决不限于它们。
下列的缩写用于该实施例中:
AN 丙烯腈
APS 过硫酸铵
EHA 丙烯酸2-乙基己基酯
MAA 甲基丙烯酸
MMA 甲基丙烯酸甲酯
表面活性剂-A 每分子具有1到4个环氧乙烷基团的乙氧基化月
桂基醚硫酸钠(31wt%)
STY 苯乙烯
实施例1-含水共聚物组合物的制备
含水共聚物组合物是在装有桨式搅拌器、温度计、氮气导入管和回流冷凝器的5升四颈圆底烧瓶中制备的。
实施例1.1
通过掺混400g去离子水,46.2g表面活性剂-A,751.3g EHA,504.6g STY,342.8g AN,45.0g MMA,和60.6g MAA来制备单体乳液。用于称量该单体的容器用43.3g去离子水漂洗。向烧瓶中添加1272.0g去离子水和2.4g表面活性剂-A。该烧瓶的内容物在氮气氛中被加热至89℃,然后将114.8g的单体乳液加入到烧瓶中,随后添加含有被溶于45g去离子水中的4.2g APS的溶液。容纳单体乳液和APS溶液的容器用38.6g的去离子水漂洗。该漂洗水然后被加入到该烧瓶中。在搅拌15分钟后,剩余单体乳液以及2.8g的APS和6.4g的氨水,(28wt%活性)在80g的去离子水中的溶液经1.5到4小时的时间被线性地和单独地添加到烧瓶中。在添加过程中该烧瓶的内容物被维持在89℃的温度。当全部的加料已完成时,容器用47.6g去离子水漂洗,漂洗液被添加到烧瓶中。在单体乳液进料完成之后添加催化剂/活化剂对。所获得的含水共聚物组合物用氨水(29%)中和。
实施例1.1的含水共聚物组合物具有44.0wt%的固体含量和8.5的pH。实施例1.1的聚合物颗粒具有121nm的平均粒径,-11℃的玻璃化转变温度,和含有作为聚合单元的:30.7STY/43.4EHA/2.6MMA/19.8AN/3.5MAA,按重量计。
对比例A
根据实施例1.1的通用程序制备对比例A的对比共聚物组合物,只是通过掺混400g的去离子水,46.2g表面活性剂-A,760.0g EHA,531.5g STY,379.1g MMA,和60.6g MAA来制备单体乳液。
对比例A的含水共聚物组合物具有44.2wt%的固体含量和9.0的pH。对比例A的聚合物颗粒具有109nm的平均粒径,-10℃的玻璃化转变温度,和含有作为聚合单元的:30.7STY/43.4EHA/21.9MMA/3.5MAA,按重量计。
实施例2-含有含水其聚物组合物和对比含水其聚物组合物的各种漆料的制备
通过按表2.1中所列出的顺序掺混各成分来制备黑色光泽涂料。黑色光泽涂料具有4.3%的颜料体积浓度,35.5%的%体积固体,和35.9wt%的%重量固体。不饱和脂肪酸酯是丙二醇酯向日葵油,报道为占绝对地位的向日葵油脂肪酸的丙二醇单酯(Archer DanielMidland)。向日葵油含有25.1wt%油酸脂肪酸,66.2wt%亚油酸,和8.7wt%饱和油(Handbook of Chemistry and Physics,第76版,David R.Lide,Editor,第7-29页(1995)。该凝结剂是2,2,4-三甲基-1,3-戊二醇单丁酸酯。UCDTM 1530E Black Jet Carbon 4颜料和AcrysolTM RM-8W增稠剂是Rohm and Haas Company的产品。

通过在Leneta记录纸(形式W9,The Leneta Co.,NJ)上施涂漆料的76微米厚度湿膜,对于各黑色光泽漆料制备干燥涂层的样品。让所施涂的涂层在24℃和50%相对湿度下干燥7小时。
实施例3-涂敷基材的抗粘连性
涂敷基材的抗粘连性根据ASTM D4946-89来评价。对样品施加重量达30分钟或24小时。涂敷的样品是按0到10的标度来评价抗粘连性:
10=无粘性,完美
9=痕量粘性,优异
8=轻微粘性,很好
7=轻微粘性,良好
6=中等粘性,良好
5=中等粘性,一般
4=严重粘性,不密封,一般
3=5-25%密封,差
2=25-50%密封,差
1=50-75%密封,差
0=完全密封,非常差
5和5以上的抗粘连性评分表示可接受的30分钟抗粘连性能。4和4以上的抗粘连性评分表示可接受的24小时抗粘连性能。

表3.1中的结果显示,从实施例2.1-2.2的低VOC含水共聚物组合物(它含有含聚合丙烯腈的共聚物颗粒)制备的涂层具有改进的和可接受的抗粘连性,与从对比例C和D的低VOC组合物(含有不含聚合丙烯腈的对比共聚物颗粒)制备的对比涂层相比。含有挥发性凝结剂但不含有反应性的非挥发性凝结剂的对比例B和E的对比组合物提供了具有可接受的抗粘连性的涂层。然而,这些对比组合物不是低VOC组合物。
Claims (8)
1.含水共聚物组合物,包括:
a)基于含水共聚物组合物的重量,5-70wt%共聚物颗粒,它包括作为聚合单元的以下单体,基于共聚物颗粒的重量:
i)5-60wt%的选自(甲基)丙烯腈,(甲基)丙烯酰胺,或它们的结合物中的第一单体,
ii)25-95wt%的非离子单体,和
iii)0-15wt%的阴离子单体;和
b)基于含水共聚物组合物的重量,0.1-5wt%一种或多种不饱和脂肪酸酯;
c)基于含水共聚物组合物的重量,20-79wt%水介质;
其中该共聚物颗粒具有在零至70℃范围内的玻璃化转变温度。
2.根据权利要求1的含水共聚物组合物,其中该含水共聚物组合物包括低于5wt%的挥发性有机化合物,基于含水共聚物组合物的重量。
3.根据权利要求1的含水共聚物组合物,其中该不饱和脂肪酸酯是选自棕榈油酸,油酸,癸烯酸,亚油酸,和它们的混合物的酯。
4.根据权利要求1的含水共聚物组合物,其中该不饱和脂肪酸酯具有至少50的平均碘值。
5.制备涂层的方法,它包括如下步骤:
a)将含水共聚物组合物施涂于基材上;其中基于含水共聚物组合物的重量,该含水共聚物组合物包括0.1-5wt%一种或多种不饱和脂肪酸酯、20-79wt%水介质和5-70wt%共聚物颗粒,后者包括作为聚合单元的以下单体,基于共聚物颗粒的重量:
i)5-60wt%的选自(甲基)丙烯腈,(甲基)丙烯酰胺,或它们的结合物中的第一单体,
ii)25-95wt%的非离子单体,
iii)0-15wt%的阴离子单体;和
b)干燥已施涂于基材上的含水共聚物组合物或让它干燥,以制备涂层。
6.根据权利要求5的方法,其中该含水共聚物组合物包括低于5wt%的挥发性有机化合物,基于含水共聚物组合物的重量。
7.根据权利要求5的方法,其中该不饱和脂肪酸酯是选自棕榈油酸,油酸,癸烯酸,亚油酸,和它们的混合物的酯。
8.根据权利要求5的方法,其中该不饱和脂肪酸酯具有至少50的平均碘值。
