Description

Spring arm sleeve
Technical Field
The invention relates to a spring arm socket, by means of which a connecting element of a connecting device can be positioned, to a connecting device which is combined with such a spring arm socket, and to a method for producing such a spring arm socket.
Background
Connecting elements for producing a connection between at least two components are widely used in the prior art. These connecting elements include punch rivets, set bolts, screws, nails, and the like. By means of such connecting elements parts of various materials, such as metal, plastic or a combination thereof, are connected. Accordingly, these parts have different thicknesses, so that the length and geometry of the connecting elements used in each case also vary.
In order to be able to arrange the connecting element in at least one component, the connecting element must be positioned in front of the punch of the connecting device in the connecting direction. As soon as the punch is moved in the connecting direction, this movement is transmitted to the connecting element and the connecting element is arranged in the at least one component. For this purpose, it is necessary to position the connecting element reliably in front of the punch in the connecting direction, so that the punch surface can engage the head of the connecting element and drive it into the at least one component.
Since different connecting elements vary in their geometry, for example in length and diameter and in head shape and head size, depending on the application, the geometric requirements must be met or set in order to be able to arrange the connecting elements appropriately in front of the punch in the direction of the connecting direction. For this purpose, brake levers formed as web-like are known from the prior art. These brake levers extend in the connecting direction in a mouthpiece or a connecting channel of the connecting device and are spring-loaded radially inwards, for example by means of O-rings. Since these braking webs narrow the connecting channel or the mouthpiece in the connecting direction, the supplied connecting element is inevitably blocked in this braking path until the punch sets the connecting element into at least one component.
In addition to the use of brake webs, the connecting channels are also equipped with brake pads or brake shoes. For this purpose, the radially inner wall of the connecting channel of the connecting device is formed by a plurality of linings or shoes which are arranged to be movable in the radial direction. The spring preloading of the spacers radially inwards ensures that the fed connecting element is held clamped in the connecting channel. As soon as the connecting process begins, the punch is moved between the brake linings, thereby pushing the connecting element forward in the connecting direction and pressing the brake linings radially outward. These brake linings are therefore used, just like the above-mentioned brake webs, for positioning and arranging the connecting element in the connecting channel without interfering with the subsequent connecting process.
It has proven to be disadvantageous that neither the brake web nor the brake lining ensure a reliable positioning of the connecting element in the connecting channel. This is especially true if the connecting element is relatively short compared to its head diameter. In this case, the connecting element tends to tilt in the connecting channel, which is not prevented by the brake lining or the brake web. A further disadvantageous feature is that the brake linings and the brake webs require a relatively large space, since only a minimum length makes it possible to achieve a sufficiently small inclination radially inward into the connecting channel.
Due to the above-mentioned disadvantages, the problem of the invention is to provide a suitable and reliable positioning aid for the connecting element in the connecting device, so that the connecting process is not hindered by a possible incorrect positioning of the connecting element in the connecting channel or below the punch in the connecting direction.
Disclosure of Invention
The above-mentioned problem is solved by a spring arm cup according to independent claim 1, a connecting device according to independent claim 12 and a manufacturing method according to claim 14. Advantageous designs and further developments of the invention result from the following description, the drawing and the appended claims.
The spring arm sleeve of the invention, by means of which the connecting element of the connecting device can be positioned, comprises the following features: a tubular part formed by a circumferential wall or a full-circular wall having a plurality of U-shaped holes evenly spaced apart from one another in the circumferential direction, the U-shaped holes forming a plurality of one-sided fixed spring arms which are inclined radially inwards into the tubular part and which extend in a first longitudinal direction from the fixed end.
Said spring arm sleeve has the function of properly positioning and holding the connecting element close to the underside of the punch of the connecting means for the forthcoming connecting process. For this purpose, the connecting element is aligned by the spring arm sleeve in such a way that the upper side of the head (for example, the upper side of the head of the punch rivet) is oriented approximately parallel to the adjacently arranged punch side. Accordingly, at the beginning of the joining process, the punch brings the joining element in the joining direction to an upper side of the substantially parallel orientation and sets the joining element into the at least one component. For this purpose, the spring arm sleeve comprises a tubular portion dimensioned such that the connecting element fits through this portion even though it is radially dimensioned. The spring arms are arranged to narrow the tubular portion radially inwardly. These spring arms project radially inward in a spring-loaded manner, preferably inclined in the connecting direction. In other words, a preferred embodiment of the invention is to arrange all spring arms to be inclined in the same longitudinal direction of the tubular part. Due to their radially inwardly directed inclination, the spring arms make the inner diameter of the tubular portion smaller. The connecting element is thus releasably retained in the tubular portion by the spring force of the plurality of spring arms. The release is then performed by movement of the punch when the punch moves the connecting element, which is elastically clamped between the spring arms, through the tubular part in the connecting direction. To define the spring arms, a U-shaped hole is provided in the radially inner wall of the tubular portion. These holes extend completely through the wall of the tubular portion, thereby forming the basic structure of each spring arm.
According to a preferred embodiment of the spring-arm sleeve according to the invention, the tubular portion comprises a circular or polygonal cross-section.
The outer shape of the tubular part can in fact be selected as desired. However, it is decisive that the radially inwardly directed elastic spring arms arranged in an inclined manner taper the tubular portion in its interior to such an extent that the supplied connecting element is held by these spring arms and cannot slide through the tubular portion. Since the mouthpiece or the connection channel of a common connection device usually comprises a circular cross-section, it is preferred to provide the tubular cross-section with a circular cross-section or a uniform polygonal cross-section. The spring arm sleeve is therefore also preferably inserted into the connecting channel or the mouthpiece of the connecting device or is arranged directly at the setting head near the lower side of the punch. In this position, the spring arm sleeve ensures a proper positioning and holding of the fed connecting element, which supports the connection process to be carried out without failure.
Another preferred embodiment of the invention is that in the spring arm sleeve, at least three spring arms are arranged in the circumferential direction uniformly spaced apart from each other in each case along the first longitudinal direction of the tubular part at a first length and then at least at a second length.
As is evident from the above-described construction, there are at least two steps or longitudinal levels within the tubular portion, seen in the longitudinal direction, at which the spring arms are arranged on the radially inner side of the tubular portion. This stepped arrangement of the first plurality of spring arms and the at least a second plurality of spring arms ensures that the connecting element is retained on the first step of the spring arms, or at least if not successfully on the second step of the spring arms. Furthermore, this stepped arrangement of the spring arms in the different length ranges of the tubular portion ensures that the connecting element continues to be supported in its position by the spring arms even during movement of the punch in the connecting direction.
According to another preferred embodiment of the invention, the at least three spring arms at the first length and the at least three spring arms at the second length are arranged at equal or identical circumferential positions to each other. According to a further preferred embodiment of the spring arm sleeve according to the invention, the at least three spring arms of the second length are arranged at a circumferential position between the at least three spring arms of the first length.
According to a first preferred embodiment of the spring arm sleeve according to the invention, a plurality of spring arms are arranged at the above-mentioned step, evenly distributed in the circumferential direction on the radially inner side of the tubular portion. The uniform arrangement ensures that spring arms distributed uniformly around the connecting element to be positioned or held exert a corresponding elastic holding force. In this way, it is preferably avoided that the spring arm engaged at the connecting element interferes with the positioning in the center of the tubular part and in the proper orientation with respect to the punch underside.
Since the plurality of spring arms are preferably arranged at several distances, layers or heights with respect to the length of the tubular part or after a plurality of length sections, the spring arms at adjacent distances are arranged according to different alternatives. A first preferred alternative is that the spring arms at adjacent distances are arranged at the same circumferential position. This means that the plurality of spring arms are arranged one after the other in the longitudinal direction, as seen in the longitudinal direction of the tubular part. In this context, however, it is also preferred that the spring arms at adjacent distances are arranged radially offset from one another. Thus, preferably, the spring arm at the subsequent distance is arranged in the gap at the previous distance. This ensures additional security when positioning and/or retaining the connecting element in the spring arm sleeve.
According to another preferred embodiment of the invention, the tubular part of the spring arm sleeve comprises a regular, at least hexagonal, even-numbered polygonal cross-section, wherein the spring arms are arranged on even-numbered polygonal sides or faces at the first length and on odd-numbered polygonal sides or faces at the second length.
The embodiment just outlined preferably achieves the above-described stepped arrangement of the spring arm sleeve. For this purpose, a polygonal cross section of tubular cross section is used as positioning aid. The polygonal cross-section should comprise at least six angles, wherein an even number of angles of the polygon is preferred. The even number ensures that the polygonal faces can remain free between two adjacent spring arms in the radial plane. With this arrangement it is then preferably chosen that in the subsequent steps of the spring arms, the spring arms are arranged on a polygonal face on which the free face or surface between two adjacent spring arms has previously been chosen at the same circumferential position.
It is of course also preferred to provide the tubular section with an odd number of polygonal cross-sections. It is advantageous here if each polygonal face comprises a spring tongue. Otherwise, the spring arms would be unevenly distributed along the circumference, which could lead to interference when positioning and retaining the connecting element in the tubular part.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the spring arm sleeve according to the invention, the first length and the second length and the length of the spring arms are selected in such a way that the spring arms at the first length and the spring arms at the second length overlap each other in the longitudinal direction of the tubular part.
In the course of supplying the connecting element below the punch for the production of the connection or positioning, it is sometimes necessary to transfer the connecting element from the spring arm of a first step to the spring arm of the next or adjacent step. In order to avoid a sudden transfer of the radially inwardly directed spring stress with possible interference, the lengths of the spring arms of two adjacent steps are selected such that they overlap each other in the longitudinal direction of the tubular part. In this way, the connecting element preferably slides from the retaining spring tensioning portion of the spring arm of the first step into the mechanical retaining tensioning portion of the spring arm of the second step. The connecting element in the tubular portion is thus held almost continuously by the different spring arms of the adjacent steps during its longitudinal movement through the spring armlet. It should be appreciated that because the spring arms are not equally adjustable and act radially inward, there may be some fluctuation in the mechanical stress directed radially inward. However, these do not compromise the basic concept described above for retaining and positioning the connecting element within the spring arm sleeve.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the spring arm sleeve comprises at least two axial sleeve portions, which are arranged axially adjacent to one another. Preferably, these sleeve portions are retained within a connection channel or interface tube of a setting tool or, more generally, a connection device.
Another preferred embodiment of the spring arm sleeve is to provide regularly arranged gaps adjacent to the strip-shaped end at one or both axial ends of the spring arm sleeve. With regard to this preferred configuration, according to a further embodiment of the invention, the spring arm sleeve comprises at least two sleeve portions, the axial ends of which are arranged in a nested manner by regularly arranged gaps and adjacent strip-shaped end portions. In this way, the arrangement of the sleeve parts, which support one another in the circumferential direction and also in the longitudinal direction, is ensured within the connecting channel or, for example, within the interface tube. This ensures a reliable position of the spring arm sleeve, in particular during a plurality of connection processes.
According to a first preferred embodiment, the circumferential wall or the full circumferential wall is formed closed. In a second preferred embodiment, the circumferential wall or the full-circular wall is discontinuously formed.
The invention also discloses a connecting device with a mouthpiece, in particular a setting device for a punch rivet or a bolt, wherein a spring arm sleeve according to one of the above-described embodiments is provided in the mouthpiece.
Connection devices are known. In this context, setting devices for punch rivets, such as solid punch rivets or semi-hollow punch rivets, are particularly preferred. However, the spring arm sleeve of the present application also relates to screw guns, which are widely used in the automotive industry as well as in the construction industry.
According to a preferred embodiment of the connecting device according to the invention, the connecting device comprises a mouthpiece with a connecting channel which, adjacent to the end in the connecting direction, comprises a radially inwardly projecting fixing collar on which the spring arm sleeve is axially supported.
The invention also discloses a manufacturing method of the spring arm sleeve, in particular to the spring arm sleeve according to the embodiment. The manufacturing method comprises the following steps: providing a planar or planar element having a plurality of U-shaped holes spaced evenly or regularly from each other, which U-shaped holes form a plurality of single-sided fixed spring arms extending in a first longitudinal direction from a fixed end, deforming the planar element into a tubular portion defining a channel, and deforming the spring arms radially inwards into the channel such that they are arranged in an inclined manner.
From the above-described manufacturing method, it is apparent that the planar element provides an initial shape for manufacturing the tubular portion. The planar element is preferably made of a different material, such as a leaf spring, typically metal, plastic or a metal-plastic composite. Other material designs are also possible, as long as they ensure the construction of the spring arms arranged radially inwards.
The planar element is formed into a suitable shape using a suitable method, such as sheet metal bending or plastic thermoforming, so that it provides a tubular cross-section. However, prior to the manufacture of the tubular part, it is preferred to make a U-shaped cut-out in the existing planar element. This is because these cutouts ensure that the spring arms which project radially inwards can be formed in the rear. In a preferred final step, the spring arms projecting radially inwards are then configured such that they narrow the passage of the tubular portion.
According to another preferred embodiment of the manufacturing method according to the invention, the planar element is a laser cut or etched or stamped spring leaf. The preferred methods mentioned here, i.e. laser cutting, etching and stamping, are known methods for material processing.
According to another preferred embodiment of the manufacturing method according to the invention, the tubular part is deformed in such a way that a hexagonal or octagonal uniform cross section is formed.
Further, the manufacturing method preferably includes the steps of: the spring arms are bent radially inward into the channels.
Based on the above-described method steps, it is apparent that, although the manufacturing method of the invention makes use of conventional machining options, such as metal, these options then result in a specific shaping of the spring arm sleeve.
According to another preferred design of the manufacturing method, the planar element is made of plastic. This is also preferably laser cut or etched or stamped, in order then to produce the spring-arm sleeve therefrom.
In a preferred embodiment of the manufacturing method, the tubular part is formed by a circumferential wall or a full circumferential wall. In a first alternative, the circumferential wall is formed closed. In a second alternative, the circumferential wall is formed discontinuously.

Detailed Description
The spring arm sleeve 1 is preferably arranged in a mouthpiece or a connecting channel 5 of the connecting device F. Fig. 1 shows a partial view of the connecting device F, showing the component feeder device 7 adjacent to the inlet of the connecting channel 5. The sleeve-like spring arm sleeve 1 (see below) is preferably held in the connecting channel 5 by a radial frictional connection with the radially inner wall of the connecting channel 5.
According to another preferred arrangement of the spring arm sleeve 1 in the connecting channel or the mouthpiece 5, the spring arm sleeve 1 is supported on a radial collar 9. The radial collar 9 can also be seen in the sectional view of fig. 2. A radial collar 9 is arranged adjacent to the outlet of the connecting channel 5. Since the radial collar 9 projects radially inwardly into the connecting channel 5, preferably circumferentially continuous or full-round, it reduces the passage opening through the connecting channel 5.
The outlet end 3 of the spring arm sleeve 1 is supported at this radial collar 9, so that the spring arm sleeve 1 cannot be pressed out of the connecting channel 5 by the punch or the connecting element FE during the connection process.
When in the connecting direction RFWhen the spring arm sleeve 1 with the outlet end 3 is supported on the radial collar 9, viewed from above, it is also preferred to fix the spring arm sleeve 1 to the setting head SK by means of the inlet end 2. The fixing is preferably achieved by a friction or locking connection or similar.
According to a further preferred embodiment (not shown) of the spring arm sleeve 1, the spring arm sleeve 1 is directly connected to the setting head SK of the connecting device F without a connecting channel 5. Accordingly, the spring arm sleeve 1 replaces the connecting channel 5 and ensures a reduced interference contour of the connecting device F.
Fig. 3 and 10 show perspective views of different preferred embodiments of the spring arm sleeve 1 according to the invention. The spring arm sleeve 1 is formed from a circumferential or full circle wall 10, which circumferential or full circle wall 10 is formed as a tubular section 12. The tubular part 12 defines a passage 14, through which passage 14 the connecting element FE moves according to fig. 2. The circumferential wall or full-circle wall 10 is formed closed according to a first alternative. According to a second alternative, the circumferential wall or the full-circular wall is formed discontinuously.
According to different preferred embodiments of the invention, the tubular part 12 comprises different cross-sectional shapes. According to a preferred design (not shown), the tubular portion 12 has a circular outer contour. Further preferably, the tubular portion 12 is provided with a polygonal external profile (see fig. 4 and 11). As can be seen from the further description, the outer contour has an even number of polygonal shapes, i.e. an even number of flanks or side surfaces can be seen in the cross section of the spring arm sleeve 1. It is also possible to provide a polygonal shape with an odd number of sides or side surfaces. In fig. 4, the polygonal cross-section has eight sides 16 or polygonal faces, while six polygonal faces 16 can be seen in fig. 11.
As can be seen in the perspective views of, for example, fig. 3 and 10, the spring arm sleeve 1 is preferably in the connecting direction RFIn the longitudinal direction ofA layer-like or a hierarchical-like structure. In this case, a height (level) represents a first length L measured from the inlet end 2 of the spring arm sleeve 11. At the first length L1At or above this first level, and preferably at the next length L2、L3、L4A plurality of spring arms 20 are evenly distributed over the circumference of the tubular portion 12. Spring arm 20 is fixed unilaterally and is arranged in channel 14 in an inclined manner. As can be seen from the figure, all spring arms 20 are in the connecting direction RFIs arranged in an inclined manner.
Preferably, spring arm 20 is surrounded on three sides by a continuous U-shaped hole 22 through the circumferential or full circular wall 10. Accordingly, each spring arm 20 is connected to wall 10 at only one side 24.
Reference to the first length L of the spring arm sleeve 11Or first height, to describe the preferred arrangement of spring arm 20. As shown in fig. 4, the tubular portion 12 preferably includes a polygonal cross-section having eight polygonal faces 16. First length L measured preferably at the center of spring arm 201Here, U-shaped hole 22 and therefore spring arm 20 are arranged in the circumferential direction only on each second polygonal face 16. Accordingly, the spring arms 20 are arranged uniformly distributed in the circumferential direction on the radially inner side of the tubular part 12.
In the connecting direction RFNext length L after2At or at the second level, preferably radially inside the tubular portion 12 and at the first level L1With the same number of spring arms 20 arranged. However, the second height or length L2Is arranged exactly at the polygonal face 16, on which is at the first level L1Without a spring arm disposed therein.
Furthermore, it is preferred that in the connecting direction RFUpper view, second height L2At its connection 24 to wall 10, up to a first spring arm length L1Or the end of the height has previously begun. Thus, adjacent lengths L are generated1、L2Or the like or a nested arrangement of spring arms 20 of adjacent heights.
Due to the fact thatSpring arms 20 of the respective height are arranged obliquely in channel 14, so that connecting element FE moved through channel 14 is held almost continuously by spring arms 20. This preferably ensures that the connection element FE is at its connection direction RFMaintaining its orientation during movement through the passage 14.
In this case, it is also preferable to adjust the axial position and the inclination of spring arm 20 in order to achieve an optimal guidance of connecting element FE.
According to another preferred embodiment of the invention, each polygonal face 16 provides one spring arm 20 at the same height. Correspondingly, the same arrangement of spring arms 20 will be in the connecting direction RFTo the next level. With this arrangement, there is no nested arrangement of spring arms 20 (not shown).
Furthermore, it is preferred that at least one polygonal face 16 is left between two adjacent spring arms 20 on adjacent levels, respectively, despite the same arrangement of spring arms 20.
Thus, preferably and in general terms, it is advantageous to provide for the first length L1At or over a first height and then at least a second length L2Or at the second level, respectively, at least three spring arms 20 arranged at regular intervals to one another in the circumferential direction. The at least three spring arms 20 are arranged at equal or identical circumferential positions to each other in a first height and in a subsequent second height. In contrast, in another embodiment, spring arms 20 of the second height are arranged in a circumferential position, in which position, in the first height, spring arms 20 are not arranged precisely.
Figure 5 shows spring arm 20 disposed in channel 14 at an angle α that is inclined radially inward. The angle α is preferably in the range of 5 ° ≦ α ≦ 20 °, more preferably 5 ° ≦ α ≦ 15 °, and even more preferably 5 ° ≦ α ≦ 10 °. Depending on the length of the spring arm 20 and its spring characteristics due to the selected material of the spring arm sleeve 1, the angle α is adjustable to guide and/or position and/or brake the connecting element FE.
According to a preferred embodiment of the connection device F shown in fig. 2, the spring arm sleeve 1 in the connection channel 5 comprises an axially continuous tubular portion 12. This is preferably adapted to the length of the connecting channel 5 or to the length of the necessary stopping and/or positioning distance.
According to the preferred embodiment shown in fig. 6 to 9, the spring arm sleeve 1 in fig. 9 consists of a plurality of spring arm sleeves 1, here two spring arm sleeves 1. This construction method offers the flexibility that connecting channels 5 of different lengths can be equipped with basic spring arm sleeves 20 in various combinations.
The basic spring arm sleeve 20 shown in fig. 6 and 7 comprises a nested arrangement of spring arms 20 as described above. Furthermore, the basic spring arm sleeve 1 may comprise a polygonal cross section with 6 or 8 or more polygonal faces. Said nested arrangement of the spring arms 20 forms the basis of the stepped contour 30 of the wall 10 at the inlet and/or outlet end of the basic spring arm sleeve 1. The stepped profile 30 is comprised of alternating gaps 32 and band-shaped ends 34. By means of the stepped contour 30, a plurality of spring arm sleeves 1 can be inserted into one another and arranged in the connecting channel 5. This can be seen, for example, in fig. 1, in which three spring arm sleeves 1 are arranged in a connecting channel 5. For this purpose, the strip-shaped end 34 of one spring arm sleeve 1 engages in the gap 32 of the other adjacent spring arm sleeve 1. Thus, a plurality of spring arm sleeves 1 are supported against one another in the connecting channel 5.
If the connection element FE is in the connection direction RFMoving into the inlet end of the spring arm sleeve 1, as is schematically shown in fig. 12, the connecting element FE comes into contact with the spring arm 20. Spring arm 20 narrows and tilts channel 14 into channel 14 of tubular portion 12 in its resilient arrangement. Thus, connecting element FE is first stopped and positioned in channel 14 by spring arm 20 in a clamping or frictional or non-positive manner. The preferably even distribution of spring arms 20 in the circumferential direction of channel 14 ensures that connecting element FE is preferably arranged such that it is aligned with connecting direction RFThe opposite side (e.g. the upper side of the head arranged to punch the rivet) is parallel or at least approximately parallel to the lower side of the punch of the connecting device F. This supports a proper positioning of the connection element FE for the connection procedure. When the connection element FE is in the connection direction RFWhen moving upward via spring arm sleeve 1, spring arms 20 are directed radially outwardElastically yielding. This is shown in fig. 14 and 15. After passing through connection element FE, spring arms 20 spring back radially inward to brake or decelerate and/or position the next connection element FE.
With reference to the flow chart in fig. 16, a preferred alternative of the manufacturing method for the spring arm sleeve 1 is described. In a first step S1, a planar element is first provided, from which the tubular portion 12 is subsequently formed. The planar element is preferably made of metal, for example spring steel. According to another preferred embodiment of the invention, the planar element is made of plastic. Thus, depending on the connection process to be supported by the spring arm sleeve 1, different material alternatives for the production of the spring arm sleeve 1 can be used.
In step S2, a plurality of U-shaped holes 22 regularly spaced from each other are provided in the planar element, corresponding to the selected substitute material, to form spring arms 20 from these U-shaped holes. According to processing step S2A, the holes 22 are preferably made by laser cutting. According to another preferred embodiment, in step S2B, the holes 22 are etched. Another embodiment of the present invention is to fabricate the holes 22 in the planar elements by stamping (step S2C).
After the planar element has been provided with the holes 22, the planar element is deformed into the tubular portion 12 with the passage 14 in a subsequent step S3. According to a preferred embodiment of the method step, the deformation is performed under heat supply (see step S3A). It is also preferable that the planar member is formed into an appropriate shape by bending (step S3B). Of course, this bending in step S3B may also be supported by supplying heat.
Based on the different preferred embodiments of the spring arm sleeve 1 described above, it can be appreciated that the tubular portion 12 may comprise different cross-sectional profiles after the deformation step. Thus, according to a different preferred embodiment, it is intended to provide a deformed planar element, i.e. the tubular portion 12, with a uniform cross section, circular or hexagonal or octagonal.
In a final preferred step S4, spring arm 20 is deformed radially inward into channel 14. In the case of a metallic planar element, the deformation preferably comprises a bending step. In the same way, spring arm 20 can be formed into a suitable configuration by using heat, particularly if the planar element is made of plastic.
