本发明涉及用于壁挂电视和大型监视器的使用了等离子显示面板的等离子显示装置及其驱动方法。
背景技术
以等离子显示面板(下面,简记作“面板”)为代表的交流面放电型面板在相对配置的前面板与背面板之间形成了多个放电单元。
前面板在玻璃制的前面基板上彼此平行地多对形成由1对扫描电极和维持电极构成的显示电极对,并形成电介质层和保护层,使其覆盖这些显示电极对。背面板在玻璃制的背面基板上分别形成多个平行的数据电极、覆盖这些数据电极的电介质层与进一步在其上与数据电极平行的多个障壁,在电介质层的表面与障壁的侧面形成荧光体层。
并且,相对配置前面板与背面板,使得显示电极对与数据电极立体相交而加以密封,并在内部的放电空间中封入包含氙气的放电气体。这里,在显示电极对与数据电极相对的部分形成放电单元。在这种结构的面板中,在各放电单元内通过气体放电产生紫外线,并由该紫外线使发光为红色、绿色和蓝色的各色的荧光体层激励发光而进行彩色显示。

本发明提供一种在较宽温度范围不会产生误点亮,且不会大大降低图像显示质量的等离子显示装置及其驱动方法。
等离子显示装置的驱动方法,该等离子显示装置包括:等离子显示面板,其包括多个具有由扫描电极和维持电极构成的显示电极对的放电单元;和温度检测电路,其检测等离子显示面板的周围温度而输出检测温度;所述等离子显示装置的驱动方法通过配置多个子场而构成1场期间来显示图像,各子场具有在放电单元产生初始化放电的初始化期间、在放电单元产生写入放电的写入期间与在放电单元产生维持放电的维持期间,其中,设置在多个子场中的至少一个子场的初始化期间与写入期间之间向扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间;根据温度检测电路检测出的检测温度,来控制设置异常电荷消除期间的子场数目。
等离子显示装置,其包括:等离子显示面板,其包括多个具有由扫描电极和维持电极构成的显示电极对的放电单元;温度检测电路,其检测等离子显示面板的周围温度而输出检测温度;面板驱动电路,其通过配置多个子场而构成1场期间来显示图像,各子场具有在放电单元中产生初始化放电的初始化期间、在放电单元中产生写入放电的写入期间和在放电单元中产生维持放电的维持期间,其中,面板驱动电路,设置在多个子场中的至少一个子场的初始化期间和写入期间之间向扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间;根据温度检测电路检测出的检测温度,来控制设置异常电荷消除期间的子场数目。

具体实施方式
下面,使用附图来说明本发明的实施方式中的等离子显示装置及其驱动方法。
(实施方式)
图1是表示本发明的实施方式中的面板10结构的分解立体图。在玻璃制的前面基板21上,形成多个由扫描电极22和维持电极23构成的显示电极对24。并且,形成电介质层25,使其覆盖扫描电极22和维持电极23,并在该电介质层25上形成保护层26。在背面基板31上形成多个数据电极32,并形成电介质层33,使其覆盖数据电极32,进一步,在其上形成井口状的障壁34。并且,在障壁34的侧面和电介质层33上设置发光为红色、绿色和蓝色各色的荧光体层35。
相对配置前面基板21和背面基板31,使其夹着微小的放电空间且显示电极对24和数据电极32相交,且其外围部通过玻璃料等的密封材料来密封。并且,在放电空间中将例如氖气和氙气的混合气体作为放电气体来封入。本实施方式中,为了提高亮度,而使用氙气分压为10%的放电气体。放电空间通过障壁34划分为多个区间,且在显示电极对24和数据电极32相交的部分形成放电单元。通过这些放电单元放电、发光而显示图像。
面板的结构并非限于上述这种,也可以是具有例如条纹状障壁的面板。
图2是本发明实施方式中的面板10的电极排列图。在面板10排列了在行方向上较长的n条扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn(图1的扫描电极22)和n条维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn(图1的维持电极23),排列了在列方向上较长的m条数据电极D1~数据电极Dm(图1的数据电极32)。并且,在1对扫描电极SCi(i=1~n)和维持电极SUi与1个数据电极Dj(j=1~m)相交的部分形成放电单元,在放电空间内形成m×n个放电单元。本实施方式中说明了n为偶数的情形,但是也可以是奇数。
图3是本发明的实施方式中的等离子显示装置100的电路框图。等离子显示装置100包括面板10、面板驱动电路40、图像信号处理电路41、温度检测电路46和向各电路块供给所需的电源的电源电路(未图示)。面板驱动电路40具有数据电极驱动电路42、扫描电极驱动电路43、维持电极驱动电路44与定时产生电路45。
温度检测电路46具有用于检测温度的热敏电阻(thermistor)、热电对等一般已知的感热元件,来检测面板10的周围温度。
图像信号处理电路41将所输入的图像信号转换为表示每个子场的发光·非发光的图像数据。数据电极驱动电路42将每个子场的图像数据转换为与各数据电极D1~数据电极Dm对应的信号,驱动各数据电极D1~数据电极Dm。
定时产生电路45根据水平同步信号、垂直同步信号和温度检测电路46输出的检测温度来产生控制各电路的动作的各种定时信号,供给各个电路。扫描电极驱动电路43根据定时信号来分别驱动各扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn,维持电极驱动电路44根据定时信号来驱动维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn。
接着,说明驱动面板10用的驱动电压波形及其动作。等离子显示装置100通过子场法、也就是将1场期间分割为多个子场,并按每个子场来控制各放电单元的发光·非发光,从而进行灰度级显示。各个子场具有初始化期间、写入期间和维持期间。另外,在本实施方式中,在初始化期间和写入期间之间根据需要具有异常电荷消除期间。
在初始化期间产生初始化放电,并在各电极上形成接下来的写入放电所需的壁电荷。这时的初始化动作有所有单元初始化动作和选择初始化动作。
在异常电荷消除期间,向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加正的矩形波形电压和负的矩形波形电压。万一在之前的所有单元初始化期间的初始化动作不稳定,而使其中一个放电单元的内部贮存了异常电荷的情况下,在异常电荷消除期间,消除该放电单元的异常电荷。
在写入期间,在要发光的放电单元中产生写入放电而形成壁电荷。并且在维持期间,将与亮度权重对应的数目的维持脉冲交替施加到显示电极对24中,并在产生了写入放电的放电单元中产生维持放电而进行发光。
后面描述子场结构的细节,这里说明子场中的驱动电压波形及其动作。
图4、图5和图6是向本发明的实施方式中的面板10的各电极施加的驱动电压波形图。图4表示进行所有单元初始化动作的子场(下面,简记作“所有单元初始化子场”),且不具有异常电荷消除期间的子场。图5表示进行选择初始化动作的子场(下面,简记作“选择初始化子场”),且不具有异常电荷消除期间的子场。进一步,图6表示选择初始化子场且具有异常电荷消除期间的子场。
首先,使用图4来说明不具有异常电荷消除期间的所有单元初始化子场。
在初始化期间前半部,向数据电极D1~数据电极Dm施加写入脉冲电压Vw,向维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn施加电压0(V)。这样,对扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加从相对维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn为放电开始电压以下的电压Vi1起向超过放电开始电压的电压Vi2缓慢升高的倾斜波形电压。
在该倾斜波形电压升高期间,在扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn与维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn、数据电极D1~数据电极Dm之间分别产生微弱的初始化放电。并且,在扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn上贮存负的壁电压,同时在数据电极D1~数据电极Dm上和维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn上贮存正的壁电压。这里,所谓电极上的壁电压表示通过在覆盖电极的电介质层上、保护层上、荧光体层上等贮存的壁电荷产生的电压。
在初始化期间后半部,向数据电极D1~数据电极Dm施加电压0(V)。这样,向维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn施加正的电压Ve1,向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加从相对维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn为放电开始电压以下的电压Vi3起向超过放电开始电压的电压Vi4缓慢降低的倾斜波形电压。期间,在扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn与维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn、数据电极D1~数据电极Dm之间分别产生微弱的初始化放电。并且,扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn上的负壁电压和维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn上的正壁电压减弱,而将数据电极D1~数据电极Dm上的正的壁电压调整为适合于写入动作的值。通过如上这样,对所有放电单元进行初始化放电的所有单元初始化动作终止。
以上的说明是正常进行了所有单元初始化动作的情形,但是若放电延迟变大等放电变得不稳定,则不管是否施加了缓慢变化的倾斜波形电压,在扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn和数据电极D1~数据电极Dm之间、或扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn和维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn之间有产生强放电的情况。将这种强放电在下面简记作“异常初始化放电”。并且,若在所有单元初始化期间的后半部产生异常初始化放电,则在扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn上贮存了正的壁电压、在维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn上贮存了负的壁电压、在数据电极D1~数据电极Dm上还贮存了某些壁电压。在所有单元初始化期间的前半部产生了异常初始化放电的情况下,在所有单元初始化期间的后半部也再次产生异常初始化放电,结果,贮存了上述壁电压。由于这些壁电压妨碍了放电单元的正常动作,所以将产生这些壁电压的壁电荷在下面称作“异常电荷”。
在接下来的写入期间的奇数期间,向维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn施加电压Ve2,分别向第奇数个扫描电极SC1、扫描电极SC3、…、扫描电极SCn-1施加第2电压Vs2,分别向第偶数个扫描电极SC2、扫描电极SC4、…、扫描电极SCn施加第4电压Vs4。这里,第4电压Vs4是比第2电压Vs2高的电压。
接着,为了向第1扫描电极SC1施加负的扫描脉冲,而施加扫描脉冲电压Vad。并且,向数据电极D1~数据电极Dm中第1行要发光的放电单元的数据电极Dk(k=1~m)施加正的写入脉冲电压Vw。这时,在本实施方式中,向与扫描电极SC1相邻的扫描电极、即第2扫描电极SC2施加比第4电压Vs4低的第3电压Vs3。这是为了防止在相邻的扫描电极SC1和扫描电极SC2之间施加过大的电压差。
这样,在施加了写入脉冲电压Vw后的放电单元的数据电极Dk上与扫描电极SC1上的相交部的电压差,为在外部施加电压的差(Vw-Vad)上加上数据电极Dk上的壁电压与扫描电极SC1上的壁电压之差后的值,超过放电开始电压。并且,在数据电极Dk与扫描电极SC1之间和维持电极SU1与扫描电极SC1之间产生写入放电,在扫描电极SC1上贮存了正的壁电压,在维持电极SU1上贮存了负的壁电压,在数据电极Dk上也贮存了负的壁电压。这样,在第1行要发光的放电单元中产生写入放电而进行在各电极上贮存壁电压的写入动作。另一方面,由于没有施加写入脉冲电压Vw的数据电极D1~数据电极Dm与扫描电极SC1的相交部的电压没有超过放电开始电压,所以不产生写入放电。
下面,对第奇数个扫描电极SC3、扫描电极SC5、…、扫描电极SCn-1同样进行写入动作。并且,这时还向与进行写入动作的第奇数个扫描电极SCp+1(p=偶数、1<p<n)相邻的第偶数个扫描电极SCp和扫描电极SCp+2施加第3电压Vs3。
在接下来的偶数期间,仍向第奇数个扫描电极SC1、扫描电极SC3、…、扫描电极SCn-1施加第2电压Vs2,向第偶数扫描电极SC2、扫描电极SC4、…、扫描电极SCn施加第2电压Vs2。
接着,为了向第二扫描电极SC2施加负的扫描脉冲,而施加扫描脉冲电压Vad,同时向数据电极D1~数据电极Dm中第2行要发光的放电单元的数据电极Dk施加正的写入脉冲电压Vw。由此,该放电单元的数据电极Dk与扫描电极SC2的相交部的电压差超过放电开始电压,而在第2行要发光的放电单元中产生写入放电而进行在各电极上贮存壁电压的写入动作。
以下同样,对第偶数个扫描电极SC4、扫描电极SC6、…、扫描电极SCn也同样进行写入动作。
另外,在具有异常电荷的放电单元中,由于不具有写入放电所需的壁电压,所以不产生正常的写入放电。
在接下来的维持期间,首先向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加正的维持脉冲电压Vm,同时向维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn施加电压0(V)。由此,在产生了写入放电的放电单元中,扫描电极SCi上和维持电极SUi上的电压差变为在维持脉冲电压Vm上加上扫描电极SCi上的壁电压与维持电极SUi上的壁电压之差后的电压差,超过放电开始电压。并且,在扫描电极SCi和维持电极SUi之间产生维持放电,并通过这时产生的紫外线使荧光体层35发光。并且,在扫描电极SCi上贮存负的壁电压,在维持电极SUi上贮存正的壁电压。进一步,还在数据电极Dk上也贮存了正的壁电压。在写入期间中没有产生写入放电的放电单元中不产生维持放电,而保持初始化期间终止时的壁电压。
接着,分别向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加电压0(V),向维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn施加维持脉冲电压Vm。由此,在产生了维持放电的放电单元中,由于维持电极SUi上与扫描电极SCi上的电压差超过放电开始电压,所以再次在维持电极SUi和扫描电极SCi之间产生维持放电。由此,在维持电极SUi上贮存了负的壁电压,在扫描电极SCi上贮存了正的壁电压。之后同样,向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn和维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn交替施加与亮度权重对应数目的维持脉冲,并通过在显示电极对24的电极间提供电位差,从而在写入期间中产生了写入放电的放电单元中继续进行维持放电。
并且,在维持期间的最后将向与维持脉冲电压Vm相等,或比其高的电压Vr缓慢升高的倾斜波形电压施加到扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn,并原样保留数据电极Dk上的正的壁电压,而减弱扫描电极SCi上和维持电极SUi上的壁电压。由此,维持期间的维持动作终止。
另外,在具有异常电荷的放电单元中,由于在扫描电极SCi上贮存了正的壁电压、在维持电极SUi上贮存了负的壁电压,所以有可能产生维持放电。但是,由于越可靠产生维持放电,异常电荷的大小越不增大,所以变为偶然发生维持放电。另外,在最初的子场中没有产生维持放电的情况下,有可能在下一子场的维持期间产生维持放电。这样,具有异常电荷的放电单元若向显示电极对24的其中之一施加维持脉冲电压Vm,则一直具有放电的可能性。但是,一旦在维持期间产生维持放电,则由于在接着该维持期间的初始化期间中正常进行初始化动作,所以在之后的子场中进行正常的动作。
接着,使用图5来说明不具有异常电荷消除期间的选择初始化子场的动作。
在进行选择初始化动作的初始化期间,分别向维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn施加电压Ve1,向数据电极D1~数据电极Dm施加电压0(V),并向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加从电压0(V)向电压Vi4缓慢降低的倾斜波形电压。
由此,在之前子场的维持期间中产生了维持放电的放电单元中产生微弱的初始化放电,并减弱了扫描电极SCi上和维持电极SUi上的壁电压。另外,对于数据电极Dk,由于通过紧邻之前的维持放电在数据电极Dk上贮存了充分的正壁电压,所以放电该壁电压的过剩部分,而调整为适合于写入动作的壁电压。
另一方面,对于在前一子场中没有产生维持放电的放电单元,不进行放电,而原样保持前一子场的初始化期间终止时的壁电荷。这样,选择初始化动作是对紧邻之前的子场的维持期间进行了维持动作的放电单元有选择进行初始化放电的动作。
由于接下来的写入期间的动作与所有单元初始化子场的写入期间的动作相同,所以省略说明。接下来的维持期间的动作也除了维持脉冲的数目之外相同。
接着,使用图6来说明具有异常电荷消除期间的选择初始化子场的动作。对于初始化期间的选择初始化动作、写入期间的写入动作、维持期间的维持动作,由于分别与不具有异常电荷消除期间的选择初始化子场中的各自动作相同,所以省略说明。
在异常电荷消除期间,将数据电极D1~数据电极Dm原样保持为电压0(V),并向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加正的矩形波形电压、在本实施方式中是电压Vm的矩形波形电压,向维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn施加电压0(V)。这时向各电极施加的电压与在维持期间向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加最初的维持脉冲电压Vm时相同。如上所述,虽然在不引起写入放电的放电单元中不产生维持放电,但是由于异常电荷消除期间设置在初始化期间之后、写入期间之前,所以正常的放电单元中在异常电荷消除期间不产生放电。
但是,对具有异常电荷的放电单元,由于向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加正的矩形波形电压Vm,所以有可能产生放电。本实施方式中,将向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加正的矩形波形电压Vm的时间设置为比维持期间的维持脉冲的持续时间长。因此,具有异常电荷的放电单元在异常电荷消除期间放电的概率比通过维持脉冲进行放电的概率高,在异常电荷消除期间可以使具有异常电荷的多个放电单元放电。
接着,将数据电极D1~数据电极Dm和维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn原样保持为电压0(V),向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加负的矩形波形电压、在本实施方式中施加电压Vad的矩形波形电压。由此,具有异常电荷的放电单元再次产生放电而去除异常电荷。因此,之后,在维持期间中不产生维持放电。但是,由于在去除了异常电荷时还消除了写入动作所需的壁电荷,所以不能进行写入动作。这种壁电荷的状态持续到接着进行所有单元初始化动作为止。图6用时间TA来表示向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加正的矩形波形电压Vm的时间,用时间TB来表示施加负的矩形波形电压Vad的时间。
接着,说明本实施方式中的子场结构。本实施方式中,假定为将1场分割为10个子场(第1SF、第2SF、…、第10SF),各子场分别具有(1、2、3、6、11、18、30、44、60、80)的亮度权重来加以说明。但是,子场数和各子场的亮度权重并不限于上述值。
本实施方式中,根据检测温度来切换子场结构而加以驱动。图7A和图7B是表示本发明的实施方式中的子场结构的图。分别图7A表示检测温度小于规定的温度阈值的情形,图7B表示检测温度为规定的温度阈值以上的情形。本发明的实施方式中,第1SF是所有单元初始化子场,第2SF~第10SF是选择初始化子场。并且,如图7B所示,在温度检测电路46的检测温度为规定温度阈值以上的情况下,在第2SF设置异常电荷消除期间,而在除此之外的子场不设置异常电荷消除期间。另外,如图7A所示,在温度检测电路46的检测温度小于规定的温度阈值的情况下,在第2SF~第10SF设置异常电荷消除期间。
如上所述,具有异常电荷的放电单元有可能在各子场的维持期间中偶然产生维持放电。并且,一旦产生维持放电,则维持放电持续到该维持期间的最后。因此,越是亮度权重大的子场、在本实施方式中越是后面配置的子场,由维持放电引起的发光越亮的可能性提高。由于若不应发光的放电单元变亮发光,则大大损坏了图像显示质量,所以必须尽可能抑制由异常电荷引起的发光亮度。因此,最好在所有单元初始化动作后,在较早时期设置异常电荷消除期间而消除异常电荷。本实施方式中,因这种理由而在第2SF上设置了异常电荷消除期间。
但是,若面板10的温度低,则放电延迟时间变长,在第2SF的异常电荷消除期间不产生放电而没有去除异常电荷。因此,在本实施方式中,在检测温度小于温度阈值的情况下,在接下来的第3SF、第4SF、…也设置异常电荷消除期间。因此,即使面板10的温度低,放电延迟时间延长,也可在第2SF~第10SF的其中一个子场上设置的异常电荷消除期间中去除异常电荷,所以可以防止误点亮。
本实施方式中,规定的温度阈值是例如17℃,该值最好根据面板的放电特性等来适当设置。另外,也可设置多个温度阈值,控制为使得随着温度变高,使设置了异常电荷消除期间的子场的数减少。
本实施方式中,将向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加正的矩形波形电压Vm的时间、即时间TA设置为3μsec。另外,将向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加负的矩形波形电压Vad的时间、即时间TB也同样设置为3μsec。但是,这些时间TA和时间TB最好根据面板的放电特性等来适当设置。也可控制为随着温度变低,来缩短这些时间TA和时间TB。
接着,说明产生异常电荷消除期间中的驱动电压波形的方法。图8是本发明的实施方式中的扫描电极驱动电路43的电路图。扫描电极驱动电路43具有维持脉冲产生部51、向上倾斜电压产生部53、向下倾斜电压产生部55、扫描脉冲电压施加部57、奇数扫描脉冲产生部81、偶数扫描脉冲产生部86与复合开关部90。
维持脉冲产生部51具有输出维持脉冲电压Vm的开关元件SW1、输出电压0(V)的开关元件SW2和回收电力用的电力回收部,在维持期间产生向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加的维持脉冲。向上倾斜电压发生部53在初始化期间的前半部产生向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加的缓慢升高的倾斜波形电压。
奇数扫描脉冲产生部81包括将电压Vscn的悬浮电源(floating power)VSCN1与悬浮电源VSCN1的低电压侧的基准电压或高压侧的电压分别施加到第奇数个扫描电极SC1、扫描电极SC3、…、扫描电极SCn-1的输出部OUT1、OUT3、…、OUTn-1。输出部OUT1、OUT3、…、OUTn-1具有输出悬浮电源VSCN1的高压侧的电压的开关元件SWH1、SWH3、…、SWHn-1与输出悬浮电源VSCN1的低压侧的基准电压的开关元件SWL1、SWL3、…、SWLn-1。
偶数扫描脉冲产生部86也同样,具有电压Vscn的悬浮电源VSCN2、将悬浮电源VSCN2的低电压侧的基准电压或高压侧的电压分别输出到第偶数个扫描电极SC2、扫描电极SC4、…、扫描电极SCn的输出部OUT2、OUT4、…、OUTn。输出部OUT2、OUT4、…、OUTn具有输出悬浮电源VSCN2的高压侧的电压的开关元件SWH2、SWH4、…、SWHn与输出悬浮电源VSCN2的低压侧的基准电压的开关元件SWL2、SWL4、…、SWLn。
扫描脉冲电压施加部57具有开关元件SW3,在写入期间将奇数扫描脉冲产生部81的基准电压与扫描脉冲电压Vad相连。向下倾斜电压发生部55在初始化期间的后半部使奇数扫描脉冲产生部81的基准电压缓慢降低。
复合开关部90具有开关元件SW5、开关元件SW6和开关元件SW7。开关元件SW5将奇数扫描脉冲产生部81的基准电压与维持脉冲产生部51或向上倾斜电压发生部53的输出相连。开关元件SW6将偶数扫描脉冲产生部86的基准电压与维持脉冲产生部51或向上倾斜电压发生部53的输出相连。开关元件SW7连接奇数扫描脉冲产生部81的基准电压与偶数扫描脉冲产生部86的基准电压。
悬浮电源VSCN1、悬浮电源VSCN2也可使用例如DC-DC变换器等构成,还可使用具有二极管和电容器的自举电路(bootstrap circuit)来简单构成。本实施方式中,由于悬浮电源VSCN1和悬浮电源VSCN2的电压都为电压Vscn,所以第2电压Vs2为(Vad+Vscn),第4电压Vs4为(Vs3+Vscn)。电压Vad为-140(V)、电压Vscn为148(V)、第3电压Vs3为0(V)。但是,这些电压是一例,最好与面板的特性等相配合来设置为最佳的值。
接着,说明扫描电极驱动电路43的动作。图9是用于说明本发明的实施方式中的异常电荷消除期间的扫描电极驱动电路43的动作的时间图。在下面的说明中,将使开关元件导通的动作标记为接通,将使其截止的动作标记为截断。
首先,设向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加电压0(V)。因此,维持脉冲产生部51的开关元件SW2、复合开关部90的开关元件SW5和开关元件SW6、输出部OUT1~OUTn的开关元件SWL1~SWLn接通,除此之外的开关元件截断。
在时刻t1,截断维持脉冲产生部51的开关元件SW2,接通开关元件SW1。由此,经开关元件SW1、开关元件SW5或开关元件SW6、开关元件SWL1~SWLn,向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加电压Vm。
这时,由于在具有异常电荷的放电单元的扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn上贮存了正的壁电压、在维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn上贮存了负的壁电压,所以扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn上和维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn上的电压差超过放电开始电压而产生放电。并且,在扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn上贮存了负的壁电压、在维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn上贮存了正的壁电压。并且,在时刻t2,截断维持脉冲产生部51的开关元件SW1,接通开关元件SW2,扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn暂时被复位为电压0(V)。另外,在时刻t2到时刻t1期间是向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加正的矩形波形电压Vm的时间、即时间TA。
之后在时刻t3,截断开关元件SW2,截断复合开关部90的开关元件SW5、开关元件SW6,并接通开关元件SW7,进一步,接通扫描脉冲电压施加部57的开关元件SW3。由此,经开关元件SW3、开关元件SWL1~开关元件SWLn,向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加电压Vad。
由此,在时刻t1后产生了放电的放电单元中,扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn上和维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn上的电压差再次超过放电开始电压而产生放电。但是由于这时向维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn施加的电压为电压0(V),扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn上与维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn上的电压差没有大大超过放电开始电压,所以消除了扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn上与维持电极SU1~维持电极SUn上的壁电压。
另一方面,由于在没有贮存异常电荷的正常放电单元中仅施加了放电开始电压以下的电压,所以不产生放电,而保持初始化期间终止后的壁电压。
在时刻t4,截断输出部OUT1~OUTn的开关元件SWL1~SWLn,接通开关元件SWH1~SWHn,而向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加第2电压Vs2。这里,第2电压Vs2是在扫描脉冲电压Vad上叠加上电压Vscn后的电压。从时刻t4到时刻t3期间是向扫描电极SC1~扫描电极SCn施加负的矩形波形电压Vad的时间、即时间TB。其之后为写入期间。
上述的本实施方式中使用的具体数值等仅仅不过是举例,最好与面板的特性和等离子显示装置的规格等相配合,来适当设置为最佳值。
如从以上的说明所看出的,根据本发明,可以提供不会在较宽温度范围中产生误点亮,且不会使图像显示质量大大降低的等离子显示装置及其驱动方法。
产业上的可用性
本发明由于在较宽温度范围中不会产生误点亮,不会大大降低图像显示质量,所以作为等离子显示装置的驱动方法有用。

Claims (4)

1.一种等离子显示装置的驱动方法,该等离子显示装置包括:等离子显示面板,其包括多个具有由扫描电极和维持电极构成的显示电极对的放电单元;和温度检测电路,其检测所述等离子显示面板的周围温度而输出检测温度;
所述等离子显示装置的驱动方法通过配置多个子场而构成1场期间来显示图像,各子场具有在所述放电单元中产生初始化放电的初始化期间、在所述放电单元中产生写入放电的写入期间与向所述扫描电极和维持电极交替施加作为正极电压的维持脉冲而在所述放电单元中产生维持放电的维持期间,其中,
在所述多个子场中的至少一个子场的初始化期间与写入期间之间设置向所述扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间;
根据所述温度检测电路检测出的检测温度,来控制设置所述异常电荷消除期间的子场数目,
在所述异常电荷消除期间,以比所述维持脉冲长的期间对所述扫描电极施加了正极的矩形波之后,以比所述维持脉冲长的期间对所述扫描电极施加负极的矩形波。
2.根据权利要求1所述的等离子显示装置的驱动方法,其特征在于:
在所述检测温度低的情况下,与所述检测温度高的情形相比,在较多子场设置所述异常电荷消除期间。
3.根据权利要求1所述的等离子显示装置的驱动方法,其特征在于:
配置在所述多个子场中最开始起第2个的子场中设置有所述异常电荷消除期间。
4.一种等离子显示装置,其包括:
等离子显示面板,其包括多个具有由扫描电极和维持电极构成的显示电极对的放电单元;温度检测电路,其检测所述等离子显示面板的周围温度而输出检测温度;面板驱动电路,其通过配置多个子场而构成1场期间来显示图像,各子场具有在所述放电单元中产生初始化放电的初始化期间、在所述放电单元中产生写入放电的写入期间和向所述扫描电极和维持电极交替施加作为正极电压的维持脉冲而在所述放电单元中产生维持放电的维持期间,其中,
所述面板驱动电路,
在所述多个子场中的至少一个子场的初始化期间和写入期间之间设置向所述扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间;
根据所述温度检测电路检测出的检测温度,来控制设置所述异常电荷消除期间的子场数目,
在所述异常电荷消除期间,以比所述维持脉冲长的期间对所述扫描电极施加了正极的矩形波之后,以比所述维持脉冲长的期间对所述扫描电极施加负极的矩形波。
