DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENT (S) OF INVENTION
Embodiments according to the present invention will be explained below with reference to the drawings. Further, the embodiments of the present invention can be modified in various ways within the technical scope of the present invention, and are not limited to the following embodiments.
(first embodiment)
-structure
Fig. 1 is a block diagram showing a schematic structure of a navigation device 20 according to a first embodiment of the present invention, the navigation device 20 having a function of a map display device.
The navigation device 20 is installed in the subject vehicle. The navigation device 20 comprises the following equipment: a position detection device 21 for detecting a current position of the vehicle; a touch panel 22 for a user to input various instructions; a remote control terminal 23a provided as a main unit different from the navigation device 20 for a user to input various instructions, similar to the touch panel 22; a remote control sensor 23b for inputting a signal from the remote control terminal 23 a; an external communication device 24 connected to a packet communication network or the like for communicating with the outside of the vehicle; a map data input device 25 for inputting data from a map storage medium in which map data or audio data is recorded; a display device 26 for displaying a map or various information; an audio output device 27 for outputting various guidance sounds; a microphone 28 for outputting an electric signal based on a sound made by a user; and a controller 29. The controller 29 executes various processes in accordance with inputs from the position detection device 21, the touch panel 22, the remote control sensor 23b, the external communication device 24, the map data input device 25, and the microphone 28. The controller 29 controls the external communication device 24, the display device 26, and the audio output device 27.
The position detection device 21 includes the following sensors and the like: a GPS (global positioning system) receiver 21a for receiving electric waves from GPS satellites via a GPS antenna (not shown) and outputting a reception signal; a gyroscope 21b for detecting a rotational motion applied to the vehicle; and a distance sensor 21c for detecting a travel distance using acceleration in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle. Based on signals output from the sensors 21a to 21c and the like, the controller 29 calculates the position, direction, speed, and the like of the vehicle. Further, although there are several methods of calculating the current position based on the signal output from the GPS receiver 21a, an independent positioning method or a relative positioning method may be used.
The touch panel 22 includes a panel for outputting coordinates touched by a user, and is integrated with the display device 26 like a laminate integration. Further, although there are various methods for detecting a user operation, for example, a pressure-sensitive method, an electromagnetic induction method, a capacitance sensing method, or a method obtained by combining the foregoing methods, any method may be used in the present embodiment.
The external communication device 24 acquires traffic information, such as accident information or congestion information, from a traffic information center such as a VICS (vehicle information communication system) center via an optical beacon, a radio wave beacon, or the like provided on the road side. The map data input device 25 is used to input various data stored in a map data storage medium such as a hard disk or a DVD-ROM (not shown). The map data storage medium stores map data, audio data for guidance (audio guidance information), voice recognition data, and the like. The map data includes node data, link data, cost data, background data, road data, name data, mark data, intersection data, facility data, and the like. Further, instead of acquiring data from the map data storage medium, data may be acquired through a communication network.
The display device 26 includes a display (or referred to as a display unit) 26a and a drive mechanism 26 b. The display 26a is a color display, which may be a liquid crystal display, an organic electroluminescent display, a CRT, or the like. The display 26a has a viewing area (or referred to as a display screen) in a central portion, which displays various information, for example, information related to the travel of the vehicle. The viewing area of the display 26a displays the superimposed map and related data. The relevant data include the following: a current position mark indicating a current position of the vehicle, which is specified by the current position detected by the position detecting device 21 and the map data input from the map data input device 25; a guidance route to a destination; a name; a landmark; a facility mark; and facility guidance.
The display 26a moves between (i) a "hidden position (partially hidden position)" in fig. 3B and (ii) an "exposed position (fully exposed position)" in fig. 3A. In the partially concealed position, the viewing area of the display 26a is partially concealed inside the center console portion 30 of the vehicle in the stored state of the display 26a, as shown in fig. 3B. Here, the exposed portion of the viewing area may be defined as a portion of the viewing area exposed from the center console portion 30 and not hidden by the center console portion 30. In the fully exposed position, the entire viewing area of the display 26a is exposed from the center console portion 30 in the extended state of the display 26a, as shown in fig. 3A.
The drive mechanism 26b functions as a movement drive device and is controlled by the controller 29, thereby moving the display 26a between the partially-hidden position and the fully-exposed position. Here, the driving mechanism 26b employs a known technique; therefore, a detailed explanation is omitted here.
The audio output device 27 can output various audio guidance input from the map data input device 25. The microphone 28 outputs an electric signal (sound signal) to the controller 29 based on the sound (speech or voice) input by the user. By inputting various voices into the microphone 28, the user can operate the navigation device 20.
The controller 29 includes a well-known microcomputer having a CPU, ROM, RAM, SRAM, I/O, and a bus connecting the above devices. The controller 29 executes various processes based on programs stored in the ROM or the RAM. For example, based on each detection signal from the position detection device 21, the current position of the vehicle is calculated as a set of coordinates and a heading; then, the map and the related items in the vicinity of the calculated current position are read out from the map data input device 25 and displayed in the display device 26. This may be referred to as a map display process. The optimal route starting from the current position is calculated based on the map data stored in the map data input device 25 and the destination specified according to the input via the touch panel 22 or the remote control terminal 23 a. This may be referred to as a route calculation process. The route guidance is performed by displaying the calculated optimal route in the display device 26 and/or outputting corresponding audio guidance (or guidance voice) via the audio output device 27. This may be referred to as a route guidance process.
Further, the controller 29 has the following functions: the display position of the display 26a is moved or switched between a partially hidden position (or a stored state) and a fully exposed position (or an extended state) by controlling the drive mechanism 26b in the display device 26 according to the received control signal. The reception control signal includes an operation signal input via the touch panel 22 or the remote control terminal 23a, a control signal output by a voice recognition function using a sound signal from the microphone 28, or a control signal such as a signal for indicating the state of the main power supply of the navigation apparatus 20 or the state of the power supply of the display 26 a. Thus, the controller 29 includes a position switching module or unit for the display 26 a.
Also, the controller 29 has a function of acquiring information such as navigation information, vehicle information, and audio information, and notifies a user of the vehicle using the information. The navigation information relates to current information or route guidance, and is related to the travel of the vehicle. The vehicle information and the audio information are other information than the navigation information, and are acquired from various external ECUs. Thus, the controller 29 includes an information acquisition module or unit, such as a navigation information (or first information) acquisition module or unit, and other information (or second information) acquisition modules or units. Further, the navigation information includes guidance information indicating navigation (e.g., audio guidance) with sound.
Thus, for the display 26a of the display device 26, the controller 29 generates a first image to be displayed on the entire viewing area in the fully exposed position and a second image to be displayed on the exposed portion of the viewing area in the partially hidden position. Thus, the controller 29 comprises an image generation module or unit. The first image is a navigation information image (refer to fig. 3A) generated using the navigation information, and the generated first image is displayed on the entire viewing area in the fully exposed position. In contrast, the second image is an audio information image (refer to fig. 3B) generated using audio information, and the generated second image is displayed on the exposed portion of the viewing zone at the partially hidden position. Thus, the controller 29 includes a notification module or unit for displaying an image appropriate for the display position being presented.
-operation of
Next, the display image switching process performed by the controller 29 is explained using the flowchart of fig. 2, fig. 3A, and fig. 3B. Here, an explanation of general processes such as a route calculation process and a route guidance process, which are also performed by the controller 29, is omitted.
When the driver operates the ignition key to generate a state of the auxiliary power supply (ACC power supply), the controller 29 performs a display image switching process. This process is repeatedly performed while the state of the auxiliary power supply is continued.
First, the controller 29 determines whether the main power of the navigation apparatus 20 and the power of the display 26a of the display device 26 are set to "on" (S110). When it is determined that the main power supply of the navigation apparatus 20 and the power supply of the display 26a are not set to "on", or that at least one of (i) the main power supply and (ii) the power supply of the display 26a is set to "off" (S110: no), the controller 29 determines not to display any image on the display 26a (S160), and immediately ends the present process.
In contrast, when it is determined that the main power supply of the navigation apparatus 20 and the power supply of the display 26a are set to "on" (S110: YES), the controller 29 determines whether the display 26a of the display device 26 is stored in the center console section 30 (i.e., in a stored state) (S120). Whether the display 26a is stored in the center console portion 30 is determined by detecting the position of the display 26a from a signal indicating the driving state of the driving mechanism 26b or a signal output from a position sensor for detecting the position of the display 26 a.
When it is judged that the display 26a is not stored in the center console section 30 (i.e., in the extended state, not in the stored state) and the entire viewing area of the display 26a is exposed (S120: NO), the controller 29 acquires the navigation information. A navigation information image is generated using the acquired navigation information, and the generated navigation information image is displayed on the entire viewing area of the display 26a (S170).
Alternatively, the controller 29 may acquire the audio information, generate an audio information image using the acquired audio information, and display the generated audio information image on the entire viewing area of the display 26a at S170. Further, at S170, the controller 29 may acquire vehicle information, generate a vehicle information image using the acquired vehicle information, and display the generated vehicle information image on the entire viewing area of the display 26 a. Immediately after S170, the present process ends.
In contrast, when it is determined that the display 26a of the display device 26 is stored in the center console section 30 (i.e., in the stored state) (S120: YES), the controller 29 determines whether or not to perform navigation guidance (S130). When navigation information is output from components included in the navigation device 20, it is determined whether or not navigation guidance is performed.
When it is judged that the navigation guidance is not to be performed (S130: NO), the controller 29 acquires the audio information, generates an audio information image using the acquired audio information, and displays the generated audio information image on the exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a in the partially hidden position (S150). Then, the present process is immediately ended.
In contrast, when it is determined that the navigation guidance is performed (S130: YES), the controller 29 acquires the navigation information and outputs the guidance information contained in the acquired navigation information to the audio output device 27 (S140). Then, the controller 29 acquires audio information, generates an audio information image using the acquired audio information, and displays the generated audio information image on the exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a at the partially hidden position (S150). Then, the present process is immediately ended.
-advantages of
(1) According to the navigation apparatus 20 of the present embodiment, when it is determined that the display 26a of the display device 26 is stored in the center console section 30 in the display image switching process (S120: yes), the controller 29 acquires audio information, generates an audio information image using the acquired audio information, and displays the generated audio information image on the exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a in the partially hidden position (S150). Therefore, even when the viewing area of the display 26a is partially hidden by the console section 30, useful information such as audio information other than navigation information can be displayed within the partially exposed portion of the viewing area that is not hidden by the console section 30.
(2) Also, according to the navigation apparatus 20 of the present embodiment, when it is determined that the display 26a of the display device 26 is stored in the center console section 30 during the display image switching process (S120: YES), the controller 29 determines whether or not to perform navigation guidance (S130). When it is judged that the navigation guidance is performed (S130: YES), the controller 29 acquires the navigation information and outputs the guidance information contained in the acquired navigation information to the audio output device 27 (S140). If the center console section 30 hides the viewing area of the display 26a in which navigation information is displayed, it is not possible to provide navigation guidance using images. Even in this case, the navigation guidance can be continuously provided using the audio guidance; thus, the convenience of the user is enhanced.
-modifying
(1) In the first embodiment described above, when it is determined that the display 26a of the display device 26 is stored in the center console section 30 in the display image switching process (S120: YES), the controller 29 acquires audio information, generates an audio information image using the acquired audio information, and displays the generated audio information image on the exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a in the partially hidden position (S150).
However, the embodiments are not necessarily limited to the above. The controller 29 may acquire the vehicle information instead of the above-described audio information and generate an image using the acquired vehicle information so as to be displayed on the partially exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a in the partially hidden position.
Further, examples of the vehicle information include vehicle speed, engine speed value, indoor air temperature, outdoor temperature, and information on the ecological environment such as fuel efficiency information and state of charge information. This modified structure of the present invention can provide the same advantages as those of the first embodiment described above.
(2) In the first embodiment described above, when it is determined that the navigation guidance is performed during the display image switching (S130: YES), the controller 29 acquires the navigation information and outputs the guidance information (i.e., audio guidance) included in the acquired navigation information to the audio output device 27. However, in this case, the audio guidance may be changed to more detailed audio guidance. Here, the guide information included in the navigation information is required to include two types of guide information. That is, the first guide information is used to output audio guidance when navigation using an image is performed; the second guide information is used to output audio guidance when navigation using images is not performed. Therefore, even if the navigation guidance using the image cannot be provided, the navigation guidance can be provided by using the second guidance information having the detailed information. Therefore, the convenience of the user is further improved.
(second embodiment)
-structure
A navigation device 20 according to a second embodiment is described with reference to fig. 1, 4, 5A, and 5B. The structure of the navigation device according to the second embodiment is the same as the structure of the navigation device 20 according to the first embodiment, as shown in fig. 1. However, the viewing area of the display 26a of the display device 26 displays an image different from that of the first embodiment. Thus, the structure of the different parts is described below.
As in the first embodiment, the controller 29 generates a first image to be displayed on the entire viewing area in the fully exposed position and a second image to be displayed on the exposed portion of the viewing area in the partially hidden position of the display 26a in the display device 26. Thus, the controller 29 includes a display image generation module or unit.
In the present second embodiment, although the first image is also a navigation information image (refer to fig. 5A, which is the same as fig. 3A) generated using navigation information, and the generated first image is displayed on the entire viewing area in the fully exposed position.
In contrast, the second image is a "Turn by Turn" image (see fig. 5B) as a navigation information image generated using the navigation information. The "branch display" image indicates information about the traveling direction of the vehicle, such as straight traveling or turning right or left, which is required by the user of the vehicle when driving the vehicle from the current position to the destination. Therefore, the controller 29 includes a notification module or unit for displaying an image suitable for the position where the display 26a is appearing, as in the first embodiment.
-operation of
The display image switching process according to the second embodiment is described using the flowchart of fig. 4. The procedure according to the second embodiment is the same as the procedure according to the first embodiment of fig. 2 except for the processing after S130. Therefore, processing regarding the different parts is described below.
As in the first embodiment, it is determined whether the display 26a of the display device 26 is stored in the console section 30 during display image switching at S120. When it is judged that the display 26a of the display device 26 is stored in the center console section 30 (S120: YES), the controller 29 judges whether or not navigation guidance is performed (S130). When the navigation information output by the components included in the navigation device 20 is valid for the controller 29, it is determined whether or not to perform navigation guidance.
When it is judged that the navigation guidance is performed (S130: YES), the controller 29 acquires the navigation information, generates a "split step display" image using the acquired navigation information, and displays the generated "split step display" image on the partially exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a (S140), which is different from the first embodiment. Then, the process is immediately ended.
In contrast, when it is determined that the navigation guidance is not to be performed (S130: NO), the controller 29 acquires the audio information, generates an audio information image using the acquired audio information, and displays the generated audio information image on the exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a (S150), as in the first embodiment. Then, the process is immediately ended.
-advantages of
(1) According to the navigation apparatus 20 of the present second embodiment, when it is determined that the display 26a of the display device 26 is stored in the center console section 30 during the display image switching (S120: YES) and it is determined that the navigation guidance is being performed (S130: YES), the controller 29 acquires the navigation information, generates the "along route display" image using the acquired navigation information, and displays the generated "along route display" image on the partially exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a (S140 a). In this way, even when the viewing area of the display 26a is partially hidden by the center console portion 30, the navigation information can be continuously displayed using the partially exposed portion of the viewing area that is not hidden by the center console portion 30.
-modifying
(1) In the second embodiment described above, when it is determined that the display 26a of the display device 26 is stored in the center console section 30 in the display image switching process (S120: YES) and it is determined that navigation guidance is being performed (S130: YES), the controller 29 acquires navigation information, generates a "split segment display" image using the acquired navigation information, and displays the generated "split segment display" image on the partially exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a (S140 a).
However, the embodiments are not necessarily limited to the above. The controller 29 may acquire audio information other than the above-described navigation information and generate an audio information image using the acquired audio information to be displayed on the partially exposed portion of the viewing area. Then, the generated audio information image may be displayed on the partially exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a, as in step S150. Here, the audio information image may be defined as a third image other than the first and second images. This modified structure of the present invention can provide the same advantages as those of the second embodiment described above.
(2) Further, in the above case (1), the controller 29 may acquire the vehicle information instead of the above-described navigation information. The acquired vehicle information may be used to generate a vehicle information image for display on the partially exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26 a. Then, the generated vehicle information image may be displayed on the partially exposed portion of the display 26 a. Similar to the first embodiment, examples of the vehicle information include vehicle speed, engine speed value, indoor air temperature, outdoor temperature, and information on the ecological environment such as fuel efficiency information and state of charge information. Here, the vehicle information image may also be defined as a third image other than the first and second images. This modified structure of the present invention can provide the same advantages as those of the second embodiment described above.
(3) In the second embodiment described above, when it is determined that the display 26a of the display device 26 is stored in the center console section 30 in the display image switching process (S120: YES) and it is determined that navigation guidance is being performed (S130: YES), the controller 29 acquires navigation information, generates a "split segment display" image using the acquired navigation information, and displays the generated "split segment display" image on a partially exposed portion of the viewing area of the display 26a (S140). In this case, the audio output device 27 may be caused to output the guidance information contained in the acquired navigation information.
If the center console section 30 conceals the viewing area of the display 26a in which the navigation information is displayed, the viewing area for displaying the navigation information or guidance may be limited. Even in this case, the navigation guidance can be continued using the audio guidance. The convenience of the user is improved.
(4) Also, in the above case, the audio guidance is output via the audio output device 27. In this case, the audio guidance may be changed to more detailed audio guidance. Here, the guide information included in the navigation information is required to include two types of guide information. That is, the first guide information is used to output audio guidance when navigation using an image is performed; the second guide information is used to output audio guidance when navigation using images is not performed. In this way, even if the viewing area for displaying the navigation guide is limited, the navigation information or guide can be provided by using the second guide information containing the detailed information. Therefore, the convenience of the user can be further improved.
Each of the procedures, steps or means described above, and any combination thereof, may be implemented as a software element (e.g., a subroutine) and/or a hardware element (e.g., a circuit or an integrated circuit) which may or may not include the functions of the relevant device; further, the hardware unit may be constructed inside the microcomputer.
Further, a software unit or any combination of a plurality of software units may be included in a software program, which may be contained in a computer-readable storage medium or may be downloaded and installed in a computer via a communication network.
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the above-described embodiments of the present invention. The scope of the invention should, however, be determined by the following claims.
