Abstract

Description

有机EL显示装置
技术领域
本发明涉及使用有机EL元件作为像素的有机EL显示装置,尤其涉及对供给用于使有机EL元件发光的电功率的电源布线进行改善的技术。
背景技术
有机EL元件是通过使电流流过而发光的电流发光型元件,在形成有有机EL元件的TFT基板内的电源布线中流过数十~百mA的大电流。尤其是,在以恒定电压驱动有机EL显示板的情况下,从显示板入口的端子经过TFT基板内的电源布线向各像素供给电功率时,因电源布线的电阻而产生的电压降,导致产生亮度梯度、拖尾等画质不良。因此,需要降低TFT基板内(从显示板入口到各像素)的电源布线的电阻。
关于降低电源布线电阻,在下述专利文献1中记载有这样的有机EL显示装置:为了降低由对矩阵状配置的多个有机EL元件进行驱动的驱动电源线的电阻而引起的电压降,在驱动电源线的两端(及中间)连接辅助电源线。

发明内容
在上述专利文献1中,虽然减少了与多个有机EL元件连接的驱动电源线的电压降,但没有考虑到与多个驱动电源线连接的辅助电源线的电压降。
因此,本发明的目的在于提供一种减少对连接于多个有机EL元件的电源线供给电功率的电源总线的电压降的有机EL显示装置。
本发明的有机EL显示装置,包括与多个有机EL元件连接的电源线、和与该电源线连接的电源总线,特征在于对该电源总线的两端或包括该电源总线两端的多个部位供给电功率。
根据本发明,可实现一种有机EL显示装置,该显示装置减少了对多个有机EL元件的电源线供给电功率的电源总线的电压降,改善了由电源总线引起的亮度梯度、拖尾等画质不良。
本发明的显示装置,能够应用于TV、PC显示器、笔记本PC、PDA、移动电话、数码照相机、数码摄像机、汽车导航用显示器等,另外也能适用于其它自发光式显示器。

具体实施方式
以下,使用附图说明本发明的实施例。
[实施例1]
图1A和图1B是本发明的有机EL显示装置的概观图,其中,图1A是主视图,图1B是剖视图。在图1A和图1B中,在TFT基板(显示板)11上形成有像素部12,像素部12由TFT基板11、与其对置的密封基板13、密封材料14密封。为了防止像素部12的有机EL元件因潮气而劣化,在被密封的空间内封入干燥材料15。在TFT基板11上设有用于供给驱动有机EL元件的信号、和来自电源部的电功率的FPC(Flexible Printed Circuit:挠性印制电路)16。
图2是图1A和图1B所示的有机EL显示装置的驱动电路图。在图2中,在显示区域21以矩阵状配置有由有机EL元件构成的像素22。这些像素22连接于电源线23,多个电源线23连接于电源总线24。该电源总线24的两端通过FPC 16连接于电源部25。如此,借助从电源部25供给到电源总线24两端的电功率,像素22的有机EL元件发光。
配置成矩阵状的多个像素22,与扫描线26和数据线27连接,用由扫描线驱动电路28选择的扫描线26的扫描信号、和来自连接于数据线驱动电路29的数据线27的数据信号来驱动。
显示控制部30接收来自外部的信号,通过FPC 16将扫描信号和数据信号供给到扫描线驱动电路28和数据线驱动电路29,并控制电源部25。该电源部25和显示控制部30如图所示地设于FPC 16上,但未必一定要设于FPC 16上。
阴极连接线31与像素22的有机EL元件的阴极连接,在TFT基板11中接地,并通过FPC 16在FPC 16中也接地。
图3是由图2所示的有机EL元件构成的像素22的细节图。在图3中,在显示区域21内的多个像素22,设有由扫描线驱动电路28选择的、接收来自数据线驱动电路29的数据信号的开关TFT41、存储数据信号的电容42、和根据数据信号而驱动有机EL元件43的驱动器TFT44。
有机EL元件43的阳极侧连接于驱动器TFT44,阴极侧连接于保持基准电位的阴极电流线45,该阴极电流线45与阴极连接器31连接。
在本实施例中,从电源总线24的两端供给电功率,所以与从单侧端子供给电功率的情况相比,能够减少由电源总线24的布线电阻引起的电压降。如此,通过减少电压降,能够减少水平的电源总线24的水平方向的亮度梯度。此外,忽略由垂直的电源线23的电压降引起的垂直方向的亮度梯度。
[实施例2]
图4是与实施例1的图2对应的有机EL显示装置的驱动电路图。与实施例1的不同点在于在包括电源总线24两端的多个部位供电。由于其他结构与图2相同,因此省略其详细说明。
在图4中,从FPC 16侧的电源部25向包括电源总线24两端的多个部位(5处)供给电功率。如此,通过对多个部位供电,分割了电源总线24的布线电阻,减少了实质上的布线电阻。
在本实施例中,与实施例1相比,能够进一步减少由电源总线24的布线电阻引起的电压降,从而进一步减少亮度梯度。
[实施例3]
图5是与实施例1的图2对应的有机EL显示装置的驱动电路图。与实施例1的不同点在于设置上侧电源总线51及左右的电源总线52、53。由于其他结构与图2相同,省略其详细说明。
在图5中,多个电源线23的一端与下侧的电源总线24连接,另一端与上侧电源总线51连接。另外,下侧的电源总线24和上侧电源总线51与左侧电源总线52连接。进而,也可以连接右侧电源总线53,用这些电源总线包围显示区域21。
从FPC 16侧的电源部25向电源总线24的两端供给电功率,并且还通过左侧电源总线52(及右侧电源总线53)向上侧电源总线51供给电功率。如此,通过从电源线23的两端供给电功率,能够减少电源线23的电压降。
在本实施例中,能够减少电源总线24的电压降,并且也能够减少电源线23的电压降,所以,与实施例1同样,能够减少水平方向的亮度梯度,进而,能够减少由电源线23的布线电阻引起的垂直方向的亮度梯度。
[实施例4]
图6是与实施例2的图4对应的有机EL显示装置的驱动电路图。与实施例2的不同点在于与实施例3的图5同样地设置上侧电源总线51及左右的电源总线52、53。由于其他结构与图4相同,省略其详细说明。
在图6中,从FPC 16侧的电源部25向包括电源总线24两端的多个部位(5处)供给电功率,另外,还通过左侧电源总线52(及右侧电源总线53)向上侧电源总线51供给电功率。如此,通过从电源总线24和上侧电源总线51对电源线23的两端供给电功率,减少了电源线23的电压降。
在本实施例中,能够进一步减少电源总线24的电压降,并且也能够减少电源线23的电压降,所以,与实施例2同样地,进一步减少了水平方向的亮度梯度,还能够减少由电源线23的布线电阻引起的垂直方向的亮度梯度。
[实施例5]
图7是与实施例3的图5对应的有机EL显示装置的驱动电路图。与实施例3的不同点在于设有从上侧电源总线51的两端供给电功率的上侧FPC71。由于其他结构与图5相同,省略其详细说明。
在图7中,在上侧FPC71侧设有与下侧的FPC 16侧的电源部25同样的电源部,从该电源部向上侧电源总线51的两端供给电功率。该上侧电源总线51与下侧的电源总线24同样地减少布线电阻。另外,也可以省略连接上侧电源总线51与下侧的电源总线24的左侧电源总线52和右侧电源总线53。
在本实施例中,与实施例3相比,能够进一步减少水平方向的亮度梯度。
[实施例6]
图8是与实施例4的图6对应的有机EL显示装置的驱动电路图。与实施例4的不同点在于设有对包括上侧电源总线51两端的多个部位供电的上侧FPC71。由于其他结构与图6相同,省略其详细说明。
在图8中,在上侧FPC71侧设有与下侧的FPC 16侧的电源部25相同的电源部,从该电源部对包括上侧电源总线51两端的多个部位(5处)供给电功率。该上侧电源总线51与下侧的电源总线24同样地减少了布线电阻。
在本实施例中,与实施例4相比,能够进一步减少水平方向的亮度梯度。
[实施例7]
图9是与实施例6的图8对应的有机EL显示装置的驱动电路图。与实施例6的不同点在于在左右的电源总线52、53设有左右的FPC72、73。由于其他结构与图8相同,省略其详细说明。
在图9中,在上侧FPC71和左侧FPC72(及右侧FPC73)设有与下侧的FPC16侧的电源部25相同的电源部,从该电源部对包括上侧电源总线51和左侧电源总线52(及右侧电源总线53)的两端的多个部位(5处)供给电功率。这些上侧电源总线51和左侧电源总线52(及右侧电源总线53)与下侧的电源总线24同样地减少了布线电阻。
在本实施例中,由于能够减少上下左右的电源总线的布线电阻,所以能够极端地减少由电源总线引起的亮度梯度。

1.一种有机EL显示装置,具有对多个像素供给电功率的多个电源线、与上述多个电源线连接的电源总线、对上述电源总线供给电功率的电源部,其特征在于:

将上述电源总线设置在电源线的两端,对各电源总线的两端供给来自电源部的电功率。

将上述电源总线设置在电源线的两端,对包括各电源总线的两端的多个部位供给来自电源部的电功率。
7.根据权利要求1所述的有机EL显示装置,其特征在于:
上述电源总线包括连接于电源线两端的电源总线、和连接两端的电源总线的电源总线,对各电源总线的两端或包括两端的多个部位供给来自电源部的电功率。
