It should be noted that in the following description, specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention. The invention can be embodied in many different forms than those described herein and those skilled in the art will appreciate that the invention is susceptible to similar forms of embodiment without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Therefore, the present invention is not limited to the specific embodiments disclosed below. The following description is of the preferred embodiment for carrying out the present application, but is made for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the application and is not to be taken in a limiting sense. The scope of the present application is to be considered as defined by the appended claims.
The embodiment of the invention is provided below with the accompanying drawings. Wherein the thicknesses and shapes of the various elements in the drawings are not to be considered as true scales of the display device, but are merely illustrative of the present invention.
As shown in fig. 1, a display panel provided in an embodiment of the present invention includes: a plurality of pixel cells 100; each pixel unit 100 includes: a first subpixel 11, a second subpixel 12, and a third subpixel 13; at least part of the pixel units further comprise: a white balance sub-pixel 14; wherein, the colors of the first sub-pixel 11 and the second sub-pixel 12 are different; the white balance sub-pixel 14 is the same color as the first sub-pixel 11; in specific implementation, the first sub-pixel 11 is a red sub-pixel, and the second sub-pixel 12 is a green sub-pixel; or, the first sub-pixel 11 is a green sub-pixel, and the second sub-pixel 12 is a red sub-pixel; the third sub-pixel 13 is a blue sub-pixel. According to the display panel provided by the embodiment of the invention, by arranging the white balance sub-pixel 14 and adjusting the data signals of the white balance sub-pixel 14 under each gray scale, the white point color coordinate parameter under the same gray scale can meet the condition of white balance.
In practical applications, the display panel generally has three color sub-pixels of red, green and blue, and the size of the light-transmitting area of the three color sub-pixels is approximately the same. Due to different material choices, the transmittances of the three color sub-pixels are different, and particularly, in the red sub-pixel and the green sub-pixel which affect the white point color coordinate of the display panel, the transmittance of the red sub-pixel is generally smaller than that of the green sub-pixel, so that the abscissa value Wx of the white point color coordinate is smaller than the ordinate value Wy of the white point color coordinate, and the display screen cannot achieve white balance. Although the condition of adjusting the gamma voltage or making the color resistance of the sub-pixel with special material can be adopted to make the display picture reach the white balance, the above methods all cause the loss of transmittance and reduce the display brightness.
In order to overcome this problem, in the display panel provided in the embodiment of the present invention, the white balance sub-pixel 14 is additionally disposed in at least a part of the pixel unit 100, where the color of the white balance sub-pixel may be red or green, the color selection of the white balance sub-pixel needs to be performed according to the transmittances of the red sub-pixel and the green sub-pixel in the pixel unit, and when the transmittance of the red sub-pixel is greater than that of the green sub-pixel, the white balance sub-pixel is selected to be green; when the transmittance of the red sub-pixel is less than that of the green sub-pixel, the white balance sub-pixel is selected to be red. After the white balance sub-pixel 14 is added to the pixel unit of the display panel, the white balance adjustment can be performed when each gray scale picture of the display panel is displayed. Specifically, when any gray scale image of the display panel is adjusted, the data signals loaded by the first sub-pixel 11 (red sub-pixel/green sub-pixel), the second sub-pixel 12 (green sub-pixel/red sub-pixel), and the third sub-pixel 13 (blue sub-pixel) are not changed, and are the same as the data signals loaded by the display panel in the prior art at the same gray scale, and then the data signals of the white balance sub-pixel 14 are adjusted, so that the current gray scale image reaches the white balance condition.
In practical implementation, as shown in fig. 2, the white balance sub-pixel 14 may be disposed in each pixel unit 100 in the display panel, or as shown in fig. 1, the white balance sub-pixel 14 may be disposed in a part of the pixel units. Moreover, the setting position of the white balance sub-pixel 14 in the display panel can be flexibly adjusted, and taking the sub-pixel arrangement structure shown in fig. 2 as an example, the first sub-pixel 11, the second sub-pixel 12, the third sub-pixel 13 and the white balance sub-pixel 14 can be repeatedly arranged in sequence from left to right along the direction of the pixel unit row; alternatively, as shown in fig. 3, the first sub-pixel 11, the second sub-pixel 12, the white balance sub-pixel 14, and the third sub-pixel 13 may be repeatedly arranged in order from left to right along the direction of the pixel unit row; alternatively, as shown in fig. 4, the first sub-pixel 11, the white balance sub-pixel 14, the second sub-pixel 12, and the third sub-pixel 13 may be repeatedly arranged in order from left to right in the direction of the pixel unit row. The sub-pixel arrangement rules shown in fig. 2-4 are different along the row direction of the pixel units, and the sub-pixel arrangement rules in the pixel units in the same column in each arrangement may be the same, so that the sub-pixels included in each sub-pixel column are the same sub-pixel, and due to the difference in the sizes of the sub-pixels, the sub-pixels in the same column may be connected to the same data signal line by using the arrangement. Of course, in practical applications, the arrangement rules of the sub-pixels in the pixel units in the same column may be different, and are not limited herein. As shown in fig. 5, the arrangement rule of the sub-pixels in each pixel unit may be different in the same pixel unit row, and taking the sub-pixel arrangement structure shown in fig. 5 as an example, the sub-pixels in the pixel unit in the first column are arranged with the first sub-pixel 11, the white balance sub-pixel 14, the second sub-pixel 12, and the third sub-pixel 13 in order from left to right along the pixel unit row; the sub-pixels located in the pixel unit of the second column are sequentially arranged with the first sub-pixel 11, the second sub-pixel 12, the white balance sub-pixel 14 and the third sub-pixel 13 from left to right along the pixel unit row; the sub-pixel located in the pixel unit of the third column arranges the white balance sub-pixel 14, the first sub-pixel 11, the second sub-pixel 12, and the third sub-pixel 13 in this order from left to right along the pixel unit row. Therefore, the arrangement rule of each sub-pixel in the pixel unit can be adjusted according to actual needs, the above arrangement mode is only illustrated by way of example, and other arrangement modes are not limited.
In practical applications, the arrangement directions of the sub-pixels can also be flexibly set, as shown in fig. 6, in one pixel unit 100, the first sub-pixel 11 and the second sub-pixel 12 are arranged in one side, and the third sub-pixel 13 and the white balance sub-pixel 14 are respectively located at the left and right sides of the first sub-pixel and the second sub-pixel arranged in the column. The sub-pixel arrangement shown in fig. 6 is more compact, which is beneficial to increase the number of pixel units to achieve high PPI display. Therefore, the scheme of the white balance sub-pixel can be applied to various pixel arrangement structures, and the white balance requirement of each gray scale picture can be met by adjusting the data signals of the white balance sub-pixel.
Besides, when the white balance sub-pixels are only located in a part of the pixel units, the pixel units may share the white balance sub-pixels, for example, the white balance sub-pixels 14 may be arranged in a column, and two adjacent columns of pixel units share one column of white balance sub-pixels, and other possible embodiments based on the inventive concept are within the scope of the invention.
As described above, in general, the first subpixel 11 and the second subpixel 12 in the pixel unit 100 have the same size, and when the white balance subpixel 14 is provided in each pixel unit 100, the size of the white balance subpixel 14 is smaller than the size of the first subpixel 11/the second subpixel 12. This is because the white balance sub-pixels provided in the pixel unit are used to adjust the white balance of each gray scale screen, and are not directly used for display, and the white balance sub-pixels 14 do not need to occupy a large size space, so that the purpose of white balance adjustment can be achieved.
The size of the white balance sub-pixel 14 can be determined according to the white point color coordinate parameters, and the following description will specifically take the example that the first sub-pixel is a red sub-pixel, the second sub-pixel is a green sub-pixel, the third sub-pixel is a blue sub-pixel, and the color of the white balance sub-pixel is the same as that of the first sub-pixel.
When no white balance subpixel is provided in the display panel, the white point color coordinates have the abscissa:
the ordinate of the white point color coordinate is:
wherein X, Y, and Z are tristimulus values representing red, green, and blue, respectively, and when the red and green sub-pixels have the same size, the green sub-pixel has a higher transmittance, so that:
RX+GX+BX<RY+GY+BY;
at this time, the white point color coordinate parameters are expressed as: wx < Wy; on the other hand, when the display screen reaches the white balance condition, the white point color coordinate parameter should be represented as Wx = Wy, and therefore, when the white balance sub-pixels are not provided, the display screen cannot reach the white balance condition.
After the white balance sub-pixel is added into the display panel, the abscissa of the white point color coordinate is as follows:
the ordinate of the white point chromaticity coordinates is:
wherein, X ', Y ' and Z ' respectively represent the tristimulus values corresponding to the white balance sub-pixel.
Assuming that the ratio of the sizes of the white balance sub-pixel and the red sub-pixel is a, the following requirements are satisfied: RX '= aRX, RY' = aRY. After adding the white balance sub-pixel, the display frame needs to reach the white balance condition Wx = Wy, so that:
RX+GX+BX+RX'=RY+GY+BY+RY';
then there are:
RX+GX+BX+aRX=RY+GY+BY+aRY;
thus, the ratio of the size of the white balance sub-pixel to the sub-pixels of other colors can be obtained as:
when the red, green and blue sub-pixels have the same size, the ratio of the sizes of the red, green, blue and white balance sub-pixels is 1:1:1: a. in practical implementation, as shown in fig. 7, the lengths of the sub-pixels in the pixel unit can be kept consistent, the width of the white balance sub-pixel 14 is reduced to achieve the purpose of reducing the size of the pixel unit, and on the premise that the lengths of the sub-pixels are consistent, the ratio of the widths of the first sub-pixel 11, the second sub-pixel 12, the third sub-pixel 13 and the white balance sub-pixel is 1:1:1: a.
in a specific implementation, the display panel provided in the embodiments of the present invention may be an organic light emitting diode display panel, a liquid crystal display panel, or a micro light emitting diode display panel. The liquid crystal display panel may be a transmissive liquid crystal display panel or a reflective liquid crystal display panel. In the display panels of the above types, white balance under each gray scale can be realized by arranging the white balance sub-pixels.
Based on the same inventive concept, the embodiment of the invention also provides a display device, which comprises any one of the display panels. The display device may be a liquid crystal panel, a liquid crystal display, a liquid crystal television, an Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) panel, an OLED display, an OLED television, a micro Light Emitting Diode display panel, a micro Light Emitting Diode display, or an electronic paper. Since the principle of the display device to solve the problem is similar to that of the display panel, the display device can be implemented by the display panel, and repeated descriptions are omitted.
In another aspect of the embodiment of the present invention, there is further provided a white balance adjustment method of any one of the display panels, as shown in fig. 8, in the white balance adjustment method provided in the embodiment of the present invention, the following operations are performed for a display screen of each gray scale of the display panel:
s10, lightening other sub-pixels except the white balance sub-pixel in each pixel unit by using a data signal corresponding to the current gray scale;
s20, monitoring white point color coordinate parameters of the display panel in real time;
s30, adjusting the data signals of the white balance sub-pixels according to the monitored white point color coordinate parameters until the white balance of the display picture under the gray scale is achieved;
and S40, taking the adjusted data signal as a data signal actually displayed by each sub-pixel at the gray scale.
When the white balance adjustment is performed on the display panel according to the embodiment of the present invention, an adjustment system as shown in fig. 9 may be adopted, and the system includes any of the display panel 1, the acquisition device 2, and the processor 3; the processor 3 is respectively connected with the display panel 1 and the acquisition device 2. The pixel unit of the display panel 1 is provided with a white balance sub-pixel, the acquisition device 2 can acquire a white point color coordinate parameter when the display panel performs picture display, and send the acquired white point color coordinate parameter to the processor 3, the processor further judges whether the currently acquired white point color coordinate parameter meets the white balance condition, and when the white balance condition is not met, the processor controls and adjusts the data signal of the white balance sub-pixel in the display panel 1 until the acquired white point color coordinate parameter meets the white balance condition. The operation is executed aiming at each gray scale picture of the display panel, so that each gray scale picture of the display panel can achieve white balance, and the display effect is improved.
In practical applications, the white point color coordinate parameters collected by the collecting device 2 may be an abscissa Wx of the white point color coordinate and an ordinate Wy of the white point color coordinate, and the current picture is considered to be white balanced only when the difference between Wx and Wy is within a small range. The processor 3 therefore needs to continually adjust the data parameters of the white balance sub-pixels in accordance with the monitored Wx and Wy until Wx and Wy differ to a small extent.
The following table shows the comparison between the color coordinate parameters of the display panel without the white balance sub-pixel in the prior art and the color coordinate parameters of the display panel with the white balance sub-pixel provided in the embodiment of the present invention:
display panel in prior art | The invention provides a display panel | |
Rx | 0.664 | 0.664 |
Ry | 0.312 | 0.312 |
RY | 15.40% | 21.65% |
Bx | 0.293 | 0.293 |
By | 0.662 | 0.662 |
BY | 60.33% | 60.33% |
Gx | 0.147 | 0.147 |
Gy | 0.062 | 0.062 |
GY | 7.65% | 7.65% |
Wx | 0.294 | 0.320 |
Wy | 0.316 | 0.316 |
WY | 27.79% | 29.84% |
NYSC | 86.45% | 86.45% |
Ar | 100.00% | 100.00% |
Tr | 5.94% | 5.63% |
It can be seen that when the display panel does not include the white balance sub-pixel, the difference between the abscissa value Wx of the white point color coordinate and the ordinate value Wy of the white point color coordinate is large, and after the white balance sub-pixel is set in the display panel, the difference between the abscissa value Wx of the white point color coordinate and the ordinate value Wy of the white point color coordinate is significantly reduced and substantially consistent by adjusting the data signal of the white balance sub-pixel, so that the display screen reaches the white balance condition.
The display panel, the display device and the white balance adjusting method provided by the embodiment of the invention comprise the following steps: a plurality of pixel units; each pixel unit includes: a first sub-pixel, a second sub-pixel, and a third sub-pixel; at least part of the pixel units further comprise: a white balance sub-pixel; the colors of the first sub-pixel and the second sub-pixel are different; the white balance sub-pixel has the same color as the first sub-pixel; the white point color coordinate parameters under the same gray scale meet the condition of white balance; the first sub-pixel is a red sub-pixel, and the second sub-pixel is a green sub-pixel; or the first sub-pixel is a green sub-pixel, and the second sub-pixel is a red sub-pixel; the third sub-pixel is a blue sub-pixel. By arranging the white balance sub-pixels in at least part of the pixel units, the data signals of the white balance sub-pixels can be respectively adjusted under each gray scale, so that the picture of each gray scale can reach the condition of white balance. By adopting the adjusting mode, the data signals of other sub-pixels are not required to be changed, so that the transmittance of the display panel is not reduced, and the display brightness of the display panel is ensured not to be reduced.
