Description

                      发明背景
本发明涉及带有至少一个仅用油墨的标签的可重复使用的塑料包装箱,和在聚合物表面覆印仅用油墨的标签的方法。
尤其,本发明涉及一种标记可重复使用的塑料包装箱的技术,更具体地,是在塑料包装箱上涂布用于装饰性推销和/或信息性的标签。再具体些,本发明涉及应用一种在聚合物基体上只覆印图案油墨的复合标签的技术,向包装箱覆印标签油墨的方法,通过后处理过程中后加膜密封油墨加固标签油墨的方法,并最终能不破坏包装箱而去除复合的油墨标签,也就是说,不用对基体表面进行破坏性处理,从而可以重新标记。
目前,塑料包装箱是使用三种不同方法之一进行标记的。最常用的方法是在最终用户使用前丝网印刷不可去除的永久图案。这种标签通过两种或三种颜色的高耐久的装饰提高了被包装产品的消费档次。但该技术颜色品种有限,缺乏其它标签手段能够提供的改进图案,不具有变换图案以满足市场战略的灵活性而导致了大量过时产品的库存,而且仅在四个往返(trips)后就显现磨损痕迹(典型包装箱的预期寿命在60个往返),因此与其它标记手段相比费用较高。
第二种方法包括,装箱和封口时在塑料包装箱上胶贴印好的纸标签。这种标签几乎是无所不能的。然而,它几乎不能经受装卸和暴露于潮湿带来的标签损伤,也不能承受可重复使用的容器所必需的清洗步骤,而需要重新贴标签。
第三种,也是最近开发的包装箱标记技术,就是涂布压敏的薄标签。这是广泛采用的方法,但使用周期有限,因为需要除去的时候难于除去且价格较高。
对于可重复使用的包装箱的需求,是工业上优先的和全世界不同地区关于可重复使用的(再装料)容器替代一次性包装箱的政府立法的直接结果,在这种回收利用的氛围中,处理包装饮料容器的一个全新市场已经形成了。目前对于可再装料的PET和玻璃瓶容器确已如此。一些国家,尤其在欧洲,已投入了大量资金创建主要依赖于可重复使用的包装箱概念的分销体系。
显然,在该回收(再装料)市场中,唯一存在的产品是那些能够在包装箱外表进行印刷的那些。考虑到装卸、空间和储存,销售的、商标、促销的、UPC代码或其它信息是印在包装箱外表的。原因是,多数情况下,包装箱堆在商家如杂货店中,只露出侧板和端板。象这样,在包装箱所述板上存在的是唯一区别一种产品和另一种产品的特征。
在使用可重复使用的包装箱时,对各种不同的产品或品牌使用一种统一的包装箱是非常有吸引力的。然而,只有存在一种能在包装箱上提供图案或印记的方便廉价的方法时,这才成为可能,并且当包装箱返回瓶装线用于再装箱后,图案或印记能够除去。
另一方面,包装箱上的标签、图案或印记必须持久,尤其在运输和存放的过程中,这是非常重要的;更重要的是甚至在潮湿条件下仍然持久。
所以,本发明的一个目的是提供一种可重复使用的塑料包装箱,在其至少一个表面上具有仅用油墨的标签,该标签使用时,持久、耐刻划、耐磨损、耐气候、耐潮湿,但一旦返回工厂在清洗包装箱时容易除去。
本发明另一个目的是提供一种在聚合物表面如塑料包装箱上覆印仅用油墨的标签的方法。该方法简便便宜。
                    发明概述
根据按本发明的可重复使用的塑料包装箱包装达到了上述这些和其他的目的。
这就是说,一方面,本发明提供了一种可重复使用的塑料包装箱,在其至少一个表面提供有仅用油墨的标签,该标签由至少一种仅用油墨的层和一层可活化的粘合剂层组成,该标签能从表面去除而不用对所述表面进行破坏性处理,所述标签通过活化所述的可活化的粘合剂层粘合在所述的至少一个表面上。
这里,术语“仅用油墨的标签(ink only label)”用来定义一个没有纸或塑料支撑膜、但包含一层直接覆印在表面上的油墨的图案层。经常通过图案层还可至少部分地看到该表面。通过用反印标签(reverseprinted label)转印图案,仅用油墨的标签可方便地覆印到表面上。
依照本发明所使用的标签,必须基于一个没有支撑材料的油墨图案。油墨图案通过粘合剂粘在包装箱表面,图案表面可用保护层保护起来。
本发明明显地改进了基于纸张或塑料标签的现有技术系统。为除去那些标签,必须采用昂贵的高压设备,尤其是在包装箱的相邻面都需要标签的情况下。想要象本发明一样,通过简单浸泡去除标签是根本不可能的。而且,标签残渣易于堵塞包装箱清洗设备。
本发明系统廉价,更有益于环境,因为仅用油墨的标签容易从浸泡液中去除并回收。
本发明也提供了标签扫描的可能性,如在其中包括UPC代码,用来限定容器、内容物或任何其它有用信息。本系统也允许生产商减少包装箱库存,因为不再有必要储备所有品牌或种类的包装箱。对于生产商来说,依照本发明系统,使对于每种原材料(如瓶子)不管该材料的品牌而只用一种包装箱成为了可能。这就使大量节约包装箱库存成为了可能。当然,如果一个国家或洲的全部工业都决定采用本系统的话,节省将是更为巨大的。
在这种情况下,许多不同的饮料容器制造商(瓶生产商)使用共用的包装箱,但仍通过本发明保持了独自的市场特征。同时,一种改进的有益于用户且成本有效的回收体系将是完美的。一个国家甚至多个国家均可采用该体系。
依照一个优选实施方案,一层透明保护涂层贴在仅用油墨的标签之上。该涂层增加了标签的耐环境影响的能力。通常保护涂层的材质和油墨材质是相匹配的。更优选地,所有材料、粘合剂、油墨和保护涂层都是丙烯酸酯聚合物。为进一步增加标签的寿命,在标签(和涂层)覆印后,最好再处理一次或多次。这些处理提供了各层材料之间的聚结(coalescence),导致使用寿命延长,但不增加清洗难度。
仔细选择标签的组成、保护涂层的使用和后处理方法,可以控制标签的性质,尤其有关清洗包装箱的性质。更具体地,可以设计一种系统,使标签能在标准包装箱清洗时去除。这意味着每次返回饮料装箱厂后,可去除旧标签再涂敷上新的任选是不同的标签。另一方面,标签可以做得很耐久,以至于在标准的包装箱清洗时,标签不被去除或损伤,除非采用特殊的严格的清洗操作。这样,标签是非永久性的,但具有永久印记如丝网印刷的所有优点,而没有它的缺点,如投资成本高、能源需求大、灵活性差、颜色品种少。
在包装箱表面粘着标签图案时所使用的粘合剂的选择,将至少部分地依据于标签的期望使用寿命是一次还是多次往返。当然,在清洗包装箱时,粘合剂必须能被去除。在包装箱上覆印图案前或覆印期间,粘合剂必须被活化。覆印图案方便且通常优选的方法是,采用以反印标签方式已覆印在图案上的可热活化的粘合剂。其它的方法包括使用能用辐射、化学试剂、电子束、微波、紫外线等方法活化的粘合剂。也可以用能光引发活化、湿活化,酶作用活化以及压力或超声处理活化的粘合剂的使用。
优选地,采用可被热活化或压力活化的粘合剂。后一种情况也包括这样的粘合剂,虽然没有压力时也是粘的但加压时才保持粘附。
优选地,在包装箱表面涂布图案前,粘合剂存在于图案的反面。然而,也可以在转印图案前向包装箱涂敷粘合剂。另一种可行方法是,采用已掺加粘合剂的图案中的油墨。
如果使用保护层,可在图案转印在包装箱后涂敷上,如采用传统的辊涂机。另一种方式是在图案转印时,保护层是图案材质的一部分。
另一方面,本发明还提供了在聚合物表面,尤其在塑料包装箱表面上覆印仅用油墨的标签的方法,所述的方法包括:
一提供表面,优选地,以匀速移动,
一在基体上置一反印的仅用油墨的标签,该标签由在一基体上的至少一层仅用油墨的层和一层可活化的粘合剂层所组成,并与基体分离,并且
一向聚合物表面转印该标签油墨。
标签优选地覆印在预处理过的且对温度稳定的聚合物表面上。标签覆印是通过采用辊子、涂漆用橡胶片、刮刀或气刀从膜基体上转印油墨来覆印的。优选地,在压力下采用热辊。如前文所述,粘合剂可置于标签上也可置于聚合物表面上。在转印前或转印期间,粘合剂必须活化。根据粘合剂种类,活化方法各不相同。本领域的熟练人员知道需要哪种活化方法。对于压敏粘合剂,在转印时需施加压力。如果采用可热活化的粘合剂,优选预热聚合物表面,可选择性地与热转印系统如热辊结合。
在一个优选实施方案中,采用可热活化的粘合剂,结合聚合物表面的热预处理。当油墨上印制的可热活化的粘合剂变粘时,油墨从膜基体上脱落粘在塑料表面。
标签可置于辊子上,图案从辊子转印到基体上,可选择性地和切割操作结合使用。也可以采用适当的覆印设备准备一叠单个的标签。
根据图案需要,优选地可在图案上使用保护膜。它可作为反印标签的一部分,在转印图案时涂布。在一优选实施方案中,在转印图案后涂布保护涂层,如采用辊涂机。
这种情况下,转印表面涂布了一薄的保护涂层,如丙烯酸蜡,紧接着后处理,优选地给予一次或多次热处理。通过这样处理,标签材质聚结而非粘结在基体上,一般认为,这样得到的持久粘结,通过粘合剂和塑料表面相互扩散产生作用。
如果希望图案更加持久,如多次往返使用,优选采用更耐久的涂层,如聚氨酯,和/或长时间更严格的后处理。
已知聚合物材料、尤其是高密度聚乙烯是难于和粘合剂粘合的。本发明描述了表面处理的特殊方法,以保证快速又经济地与粘合剂粘合。
本发明描述的一个重要发现是,通过把要标记的区域暴露于非常高的温度下几秒钟的方法使标签材质和表面涂层聚结,以增加耐久性和抗湿性。这个过程将标签的复合结构从浸泡在水中两或多小时后就容易分离的一系列粘合层,改变成为标签粘合剂、标签油墨和外涂层的聚结体。在加热过程中,粘合剂和塑料表面相互扩散。在本发明的这个优选实施方案中,同时发生的内扩散和聚结导致一种非常耐久的标签。基于不同的暴露时间和最终温度,其抗水浸泡能力从几小时到几星期不等。
必须指出,本发明的未处理标签的抗水浸泡能力是足够的,它从未彻底失去与聚合物表面的粘合力。粘合只是减弱,干燥后粘合强度恢复到初始值。
在获得了所需的标签耐久力之后,还有必要在完成了在消费前标记容器内容物的功能后,去除标签。空的塑料容器和饮料瓶返回饮料厂再装料。塑料容器被清洗。根据要求(一次性或多次往返),在清洗过程中,标签必须彻底去除或完好无损地保持在表面上。
前一种情况中,用来粘合油墨基质的经热处理的粘合剂,虽然在水中持久,但在清洗溶液中被破坏,优选地,热碱能使标签和粘合剂彻底除去。标签残渣从碱液中滤出。在后一种情况中,仅当将清洗条件改变到去除标签时的条件,如延长浸泡时间和/或更强的碱液,选择性地和高压喷射(液体或气体)一起采用时,才被除去。
去除图案而不对基体(聚合物)表面进行破坏性处理的其它方法包括化学除剂(溶剂)、超声波、过冷、加热、刷洗、酶处理、真空处理、剥离和辐照如紫外线。各种方法结合当然也是可能的。
需要设置加工设备,以便在正常程序中,通过饮料设备在线标记塑料容器,从而使包装箱标签与瓶中内容物匹配。

                  本发明的详细描述
根据本发明,标签和涂布的优选实施方案将首先参考图1A和图1B进行描述,图1A和图1B分别显示塑料容器(1)和标签覆印位置。标签可以覆印在薄膜基体(10)上,薄膜基体(10)可以是任意的薄膜,但在这里所描述的情况下是2密尔厚的聚丙烯。(14)是丙烯酸涂层,根据可得到的基体膜的来源和种类可涂可不涂。(12)是覆盖基该膜的防粘材料。本发明的情况下,是在制作膜时涂布的硅氧烷。(20)代表所有覆印的油墨材料。根据标签图案和透明性要求,油墨材料可多达五种(5)不同颜色,它们分布在一层或多层中,可相互迭合。(30)和(40)代表两层(2)粘合剂,依据被标记容器的标记表面的均匀性和刚性,粘合剂累积每令0.5~1.5磅。
涂布时,从硅氧烷防粘覆盖的基体膜上转印所有涂印材料。涂印油墨材料主体是乙烯或丙烯酸树脂基的,用对温度和紫外稳定的颜料着色。对于白色油墨,选择二氧化钛作颜料。颜料粒度从3到5微米。涂印粘合剂是聚氨酯改性的聚丙烯酸,其初期粘性温度是175°F(80℃),该温度决定了转印时塑料表面所需温度,对塑料标记工艺非常重要。对于特定的被标记塑料容器,内表面没有支撑物,因此,需保持塑料在200°F(93℃)以下,以避免标签转印时达到其形变点而使表面扭曲。
标签覆印方法以工艺顺序描述。图2A和图2B显示了表面处理和温度稳定化技术。粘合两层聚合物材料,必须考虑很多因素,如洁净度、压力、温度、接触时间、表面粗糙度、粘结时的移动和粘合剂膜的厚度。另一重要因素是临界表面张力。测量临界表面张力的通常做法是采用熟知的达因溶液(Dyne solution)。对大多数粘合剂涂布,聚乙烯的临界表面张力是31达因/厘米。一系列测试表明,考虑前述粘合剂对聚乙烯表面的最强粘合,每厘米60到70达因的处理水平是必须的。进一步对商业上可得到的设备的测试表明,火焰处理法优化了为达到所需临界表面所需的投资费用、操作费用和时间。
对于迅速发粘并保持粘性的粘合剂,在标签粘合剂与聚乙烯容器接触前,必须加热聚乙烯容器。为避免容器形变,要求对表面所进行的加热不超过200°F(93℃)。由于留待火焰处理的表面温度大约为125°F(52℃),还必须加热表面大约75°F(24℃)。这里仍然有许多加热方法可选择。热空气、附加火焰加热器、燃气红外板和电陶瓷板均被试验后发现,要么加热太慢要么难于控温。试验还发现,带有用来使标签转印机定位的区域带控制电加热平板融凝石英发射盘提供了红外能量最大值的自由空气传导,而不影响周围环境。用辐射系数0.9的聚乙烯,1650°F(900℃)到1725F(940℃)之间的温度,发出峰吸收红外能量最有效的波长(2.5到3.2微米)。测试单元定为每平英寸60瓦。对所需的75°F(24℃),从距离发射盘2.5厘米的位置加热聚乙烯表面的时间是4.5秒。
图3A和图3B解释了标签涂布的方法,用这种方法,从聚丙烯膜基体转印印制的油墨材料到聚乙烯表面,使用可热活化的粘合剂的触知性来克服油墨层14对电晕处理的硅氧烷涂层12的粘合。影响转印的因素,是接触时间、接触时的温度和接触时的膜张力,尤其是油墨脱离后膜上的张力。压力辊子的直径也是一个因素但不是一个可变量。对本申请方法,辊子的直径是38mm。辊子用硅氧烷橡胶制成,中间有一钢芯,橡胶硬度范围从肖氏A50到80。应该指出,在更高硬度下,橡胶辊子的形变(被压平)更小,这样接触面积可更小,转印压力更大。当线速度较大、接触时间更少时,这非常重要。因此,一个包装箱以每分钟18.3米(每分钟60英尺)的速率通过直径38毫米的辊子时,每滚动1℃接触时间为1毫秒,辊子没有形变。
滚辊压力由传统电磁阀激发的气缸提供,电磁阀依次由两个相邻开关控制,一个使辊子前进,另一个使其后退。其它方法,如机械连接是显然的,这里不赘述。压力分散在整个气缸长度上,对本例特殊油墨,从每厘米辊子长度转印12千克到17千克。见图7A。
这样,本发明靠粘在高能包装箱表面的可热活化的粘合剂在包装箱通过该辊子时使膜精确地以与包装箱相同的速率前进。可自由转动的压力辊子保持与膜和包装箱的线速率相同的切线速率。这样油墨彻底被转印且没有变形。
为快速彻底粘合起见,压力辊子塑在中空的芯上,其间悬一通过控制器操作的加热电阻。500瓦级别的加热元件,保持辊子表面在任何预定的温度。为本发明目的,辊子表面温度在250°F和370°F之间(120℃和190℃)。见图7B。
许多涂敷有硅氧烷的聚合物薄膜可用作印刷基体。高温膜如聚酯可与热辊持续接触。低温膜如聚丙烯在标记操作的间隙,必须防止与热辊接触。为此,当辊子后退时,采用膜导向器来支撑膜。安装导向器,在导向器和标记表面之间保持大约13mm。同时,辊子在该薄膜后面后退约13mm。通过保持该间隙避免了如聚丙烯膜的拉扯和扭曲。高温膜不需要导向器。
研究发现,膜张力、尤其是膜离开辊子的一端,对完成油墨转印至关重要。通过试验,发现大约2.5千克的持续张力非常有用。这可通过弹性负载拉力自动调整装置(spring loaded dancer arm)和辊子来实现。
用传统的咬合辊和步进马达来推进膜到下一个标签,并通过用印制标志引发光扫描装置来精确定位。
如图4A和图4B所示,为达到保护油墨的目的,以防装卸时无意刮擦,同时增加室外存放时耐气候的能力,通过施用丙烯酸基蜡的水乳液也达到了此目的。这可以通过装有带可控涂料量的湿辊的辊涂机来涂布。通过刮刀可得以控制。涂层良好地扩展,越过油墨图案的边缘并封口以防湿气侵入。
最后加工步骤是把涂层膜、标签油墨和粘合剂聚结在一起并使粘合剂层和聚乙烯基体相互扩散,如图5A和图5B所示。这是通过对多种加热体系的广泛试验发现的。由于火焰处理被发现是提供标签粘合所需表面能的最佳技术,所以,标签和复合膜的火焰处理被发现是扩大所需的水浸泡耐久力的最佳技术,而不用牺牲覆印膜的机械性能或改变其外观特性,也不用扭曲聚丙烯包装箱。
图6中显示了目前开发的本发明覆印最佳模式。
应当理解,在不偏离所附权利要求的本发明宗旨和范围的情况下,对上面公开的实施方案还可以作进一步的改进,同时还能获得许多优点。

Claims (17)

1、可重复使用的塑料包装箱,在其至少一个表面提供有仅用油墨的标签,该标签由至少一种仅用油墨的层和一层可活化的粘合剂层组成,该标签能从表面去除而不用对所述表面进行破坏性处理,所述标签通过活化所述的可活化的粘合剂层粘合在所述的至少一个表面上。
2、如权利要求1的包装箱,其中,透明的保护性涂层被涂敷于所述的油墨层上。
3、如权利要求1或2的包装箱,其中,该粘合剂层是可热活化的。
4、如权利要求1或2的包装箱,其中,当用碱的水溶液处理时,该粘合剂层失去粘合力。
5、如权利要求1或2的包装箱,其中,该表面的至少一部分由聚乙烯构成。
6、如权利要求1或2的包装箱,其中,所述的仅用油墨的标签包括聚结的粘合剂层和仅用油墨的图案层以及选择性的保护层。
7、如权利要求1或2的包装箱,其中,该油墨是聚合物油墨,优选乙烯或丙烯酸基油墨。
8、如权利要求1或2的包装箱,其中,该粘合剂是一种初期粘性温度为最高90℃的可热活化的粘合剂。
9、如权利要求8的包装箱,其中,该粘合剂是聚氨酯-丙烯酸粘合剂。
10、如权利要求1或2的包装箱,其中,保护涂层基于一种丙烯酸蜡。
11、在聚合物表面覆印仅用油墨的标签的方法,所述的方法包括:
-提供表面,优选地,以匀速移动,
-在基体上置一反印的仅用油墨的标签,该标签由在一基体上的至少一层仅用油墨的层和一层可活化的粘合剂层所组成,并与基体分离,并且
-向聚合物表面转印该标签油墨。
12、如权利要求11的方法,其中,在置反印标签之前,聚合物的表面已被活化。
13、如权利要求12的方法,其中,该活化是一种火焰处理。
14、如权利要求11~13之一的方法,其中,所述粘合剂是可热活化的,并且,在置反印标签之前,该表面被加热。
15、如权利要求11~13之一的方法,其中,转印的标签被一透明的、保护涂层覆盖。
16、如权利要求11~13之一的方法,其中,表面、选择性地和保护涂层一起经过了一次或多次热处理来聚结所涂敷的材料。
17、如权利要求11~13之一的方法,用于制造如权利要求1~10之任一项的包装箱。
