Detailed Description
Various embodiments of the invention are disclosed in the following drawings, in which details of the practice are set forth in the following description for the purpose of clarity. However, it should be understood that these practical details are not to be taken as limiting the invention. That is, in some embodiments of the invention, these practical details are unnecessary. Moreover, for the sake of simplicity of the drawing, some well-known and conventional structures and components are shown in the drawing in a simplified schematic manner.
When a component is referred to as being "on …," it can be broadly interpreted as referring to the component as being directly on the other component or as having other components present in both. Conversely, when a component is referred to as being "directly on …," it means that the component is directly on the other component, and no other component can exist intermediate the two. As used herein, the term "and/or" includes any combination of one or more of the listed associated items.
Fig. 1A is a cross-sectional view of a touch display device 100 according to an embodiment of the invention. The touch display device 100 includes a transparent cover 110, a touch sensing film 120, and a flexible display panel 130. The transparent cover plate 110 has a first flat portion 112 and a side portion 114 disposed on at least one side of the first flat portion 112. The touch sensing film 120 is disposed on the inner surface 116 of the transparent cover 110. The touch sensing film 120 includes a touch sensing array 122 (indicated by a dotted line) and at least one peripheral lead 124a connected to the touch sensing array 122, wherein a projection of the peripheral lead 124a and a portion of the touch sensing array 122 on the projection plane P1 is located within a projection of the side portion 114 on the projection plane P1. The flexible display panel 130 is disposed at a side of the touch sensing film 120 opposite to the transparent cover 110.
For convenience of illustration, a dashed line is used as a boundary between the first flat portion 112 and the side portion 114 in the transparent cover 110, but it should be understood that this boundary does not represent any difference in materials.
In one or more embodiments of the present invention, the touch display device 100 further includes a decoration layer 140 disposed between the transparent cover 110 and the touch sensing film 120 for defining a visible area VA and a non-visible area NA of the transparent cover 110. Here, the projection of the peripheral lead 124a on the projection plane P1 is located within the projection of the decoration layer 140 on the projection plane P1, and the projection of the decoration layer 140 on the projection plane P1 is located within the projection of the side portion 114 on the projection plane P1.
Here, when the user views the touch display device 100 from the front (i.e., the user views the touch display device 100 from the direction of the projection plane P1), the decoration layer 140a may shield the peripheral lead 124a from being observed by the user. Since the peripheral leads 124a and the decorative layer 140 are disposed on the side portions 114, the user can observe only the oblique projection of the decorative layer 140 from the front, so as to reduce the shielding range of the decorative layer 140. In addition, the obliquely projected light may be condensed or offset by the influence of the side portions 114 and the inner and outer curved surfaces, so that the image of the decorative layer 140 is reduced or deviated from the user's viewing range, and the purpose of narrowing the frame can be further achieved.
It should be understood that, in one or more embodiments of the present invention, for convenience of description, only a certain virtual plane is defined parallel to the first flat portion 112 as the projection plane P1, and in practical application, the projection plane P1 should not be considered as one of the necessary components of the touch display device 100.
In one or more embodiments of the present invention, the touch display device 100 further includes a first optical adhesive layer 150, a second optical adhesive layer 160, and a lower cover 170. The first optical adhesive layer 150 is disposed between the touch sensing film 120 and the transparent cover plate 110, and is used for adhering the touch sensing film 120 and the transparent cover plate 110. The second optical adhesive layer 160 is disposed between the touch sensing film 120 and the flexible display panel 130, and is used for adhering the touch sensing film 120 and the flexible display panel 130. The lower cover 170 is disposed on a side of the flexible display panel 130 opposite to the transparent cover 110, and is connected and fixed to the side portion 114.
In one or more embodiments of the present invention, the edge of the transparent cover plate 110 extends in a certain direction to form the side portion 114 of the transparent cover plate 110. The transparent cover plate 110 has opposite inner and outer surfaces 116, 118.
In some embodiments, the side portions 114 may be curved. As shown, the first flat portion 112 and the side portion 114 form an inner curved surface 116b and an outer curved surface 118b. Specifically, the inner surface 116 of the transparent cover plate 110 includes a first planar surface 116a and an inner curved surface 116b. The first plane 116a corresponds to the flat portion 112, the inner curved surface 116b corresponds to the side portion 114, wherein the inner curved surface 116b connects the first plane 116a, and the peripheral lead 124a is disposed on the inner curved surface 116b. The outer surface 118 of the transparent cover plate 110 includes a second planar surface 118a and an outer curved surface 118b. The second plane 118a corresponds to the flat portion 112 and the outer curved surface 118b corresponds to the side portion 114, wherein the outer curved surface 118b connects the second plane 118a. Here, the inner curved surface 116b and the outer curved surface 118b may be curved surfaces, and in this case, the radius of curvature of the inner curved surface 116b is smaller than that of the outer curved surface 118b, and the radius of curvature of the inner curved surface 116b is 0.2 mm to 1 mm, more preferably 0.2 mm and 06 mm. The radius of curvature of the outer curved surface 118b may be selected by optical simulation with reference to the radius of curvature of the inner curved surface 116b to provide a better optical attenuation of the side portions.
In some embodiments, the inner curved plane 116b and the outer curved plane 118b may be designed for different applications. In detail, referring to fig. 1B, fig. 1B is an enlarged cross-sectional view of an embodiment of a transparent cover plate 100. In the present embodiment, the inner surface of the side portion 114 (i.e., the inner curved surface 116 b) of the transparent cover plate 110 may have different curvatures that sequentially change. In detail, the inner curved surface 116b near the first flat portion 112 may have a larger radius of curvature R2, and the inner curved surface 116b far from the first flat portion 112 may have a smaller radius of curvature R1. In this way, the slope of the side portion 114 can be changed slowly, so as to facilitate the arrangement of the first optical adhesive layer 150 and avoid generating bubbles during the bonding process of the touch sensing film 120 and the flexible display panel 130. The length shown in the drawings should not be construed as limiting the scope of the invention, and in practice the invention may be adapted to other components, for example, a radius of curvature R2 of 2 mm and a radius of curvature R1 of 0.6 mm may be provided.
The outer curved surface 118b may be matched with the inner curved surface 116b to adjust the refractive light from the decorative layer 140, so as to reduce the range of light from the decorative layer 140 transmitted to the projection plane P1 (i.e. the position of the user). For example, as shown, the radii of curvature of the inner curved surface 116b and the outer curved surface 118b may be configured such that the side portions 114 may function as convex lenses when the radius of curvature of the outer curved surface is less than the radius of curvature of the inner curved surface. Of course, the scope of the present invention should not be limited in this way, and in some embodiments, when the radius of curvature of the outer curved surface of the side portion is larger than that of the inner curved surface, the side portion 114 may be a concave lens. When light is emitted from the display, light deflection occurs when the light passes through the side edge part, so that the frame, the peripheral leads, the shielding layer and the like of the display are optically weakened, and the effect of a narrow frame is further achieved.
Accordingly, the thickness of the first planar portion 112 may be different from the thickness of the side portion 114 to design the inner curved surface 116b to have a different curvature than the outer curved surface 118b. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the curvature of inner curved surface 116b and outer curved surface 118b may be continuously varied with position to achieve the aforementioned gentle slope.
In other embodiments, the side portion 114 may be planar or have other shapes, and the purpose of narrowing the frame is achieved by shifting the light, which should not be construed as limiting the scope of the present invention.
In some embodiments, the flexible display panel 130 disposed on the first flat portion 112 does not contact the lower cover 170. In detail, the transparent cover 110 includes a groove RE1, the groove RE1 is formed by surrounding the first flat portion 112 and the side portion 114, and the touch sensing film 120, the flexible display panel 130, the first optical adhesive layer 150 and the second optical adhesive layer 160 are disposed in the groove RE 1. The thickness of the touch sensing film 120, the flexible display panel 130, the first optical adhesive layer 150 and the second optical adhesive layer 160 is not greater than the depth of the groove RE1 of the transparent cover plate 110. In the present embodiment, the lower cover 170 is a rigid substrate, although not explicitly shown, in practical application, the lower cover 170 may be provided with a connection structure to be fixed with the side portion 114. It should be understood that the first optical adhesive layer 150, the second optical adhesive layer 160 and the lower cover 170 are not necessarily configured, and may be omitted or replaced by other components in other embodiments, which should not limit the scope of the present invention.
In one or more embodiments of the present invention, the visual area VA may include a first flat portion 112 and a portion of a side portion 114, so that the touch display device 100 may display side. In detail, the decoration layer 140 and the flexible display panel 130 are configured such that the projection of at least a portion of the side portion 114 on the projection plane P1 does not overlap the projection of the decoration layer 140 on the projection plane P1, and such that the projection of at least a portion of the flexible display panel 130 on the projection plane P1 is located within the projection of the side portion 114 on the projection plane P1. In this way, at least a portion of the flexible display panel 130 on the side portion 114 is not shielded by the decoration layer 140, and light can be emitted from the side portion 114. Accordingly, the display area extends to a portion of the side portion 114, and the user can observe the displayed image from the side of the touch display device 100.
In addition, the touch display device 100 can achieve the effect of side touch. As described above, the partial touch sensing array 122 can be disposed on the side portion 114, wherein the projection of the partial touch sensing array 122 on the projection plane P1 can be located within the projection of the side portion 114 on the projection plane P1. In this way, the touch area extends to a portion of the side portion 114, and the user can implement touch sensing from the side of the touch display device 100. In one embodiment, the touch sensing array 122 is not shielded by the decoration layer 140, and only the peripheral leads 124a are shielded by the decoration layer 140. In another embodiment, as shown in the drawing, a portion of the touch sensing array 122 and the peripheral leads 124a are shielded by the decoration layer 140. In other words, the projection of the decoration layer 140 on the projection plane P1 may overlap or not overlap the projection of the touch sensing array 122 on the projection plane P1, which only differs in that the user can implement touch sensing on the decoration layer 140, which should not limit the scope of the present invention.
Here, although the touch display device 100 is only illustrated in a cross-section manner, only the side portions 114 are observed to be disposed at both sides of the first flat portion 112, but the scope of the present invention should not be limited thereto. In fact, referring to fig. 1C, fig. 1C is a schematic view of the transparent cover plate 110 of fig. 1A, the side edge portion 114 may continuously surround the first flat portion 112, such that the side edge portion 114 is disposed on four sides of the first flat portion 112. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the side portion 114 may be disposed on only one side of the first flat portion 112.
In one or more embodiments of the present invention, the flat portion 112 and the side portion 114 may be connected by adhesive-free bonding. Specifically, two substrates may be processed in advance to have contact surfaces, wherein the contact surfaces of the substrates may be upper and lower surfaces or side surfaces, and the contact surfaces of the substrates may be brought into contact with each other and heated to promote molecular bonding of the substrates, thereby forming the transparent cover plate 110. Compared with other chemical bonding methods, the bonding method does not need to provide additional glue, and is called glue-free bonding technology, which is also called diffusion bonding (Diffusion Bonding).
For example, the substrate may be undoped silicate glass (Undoped Silica Glass; USG), aluminate glass, sapphire, etc. for carrying the layers. After the surface treatment and the heating treatment, a silicon-oxygen-aluminum bond, a silicon-oxygen-silicon bond or an aluminum-oxygen-aluminum bond is formed, so that the substrate can be stably compounded. In other embodiments, the transparent cover plate 110 may be a tempered glass or a secondary tempered glass for carrying the respective layers.
In some embodiments, after the non-adhesive bonding step, a computer numerical control (ComputerNumerical Control; CNC) lathe may be performed to trim the transparent cover plate 110 by cutting or polishing to form an inner curved surface and an outer curved surface of the first flat portion 112 and the side portion 114, wherein the inner curved surface and the outer curved surface are arc-shaped. In other words, the curved surface is formed by the computer numerical control lathe, so that the water chestnut of the substrate without bonding can be eliminated, and the transparent cover plate 110 has smooth inner surface 116 and outer surface 118. The method is characterized in that the side edge part is processed after bonding without glue, so that the curvature radius of the inner bending surface is smaller than 1 millimeter, or the inner bending surface can present different curvature radii, so that the side edge part bends more slowly, the bonding is facilitated, and bonding bubbles are not easy to generate on the side edge part. Referring back to fig. 1A, in some embodiments, the thickness of the touch sensing film 120 is less than about 7 μm. The touch sensing film 120 may include various structures, for example, a single-layer touch electrode structure or a double-layer touch electrode structure. Referring to fig. 1D, fig. 1D is a schematic cross-sectional view of the touch sensing film 120 of fig. 1A. Taking the touch sensing film 120 including a dual-layer touch electrode as an example, the touch sensing film 120 may be formed by stacking a flexible substrate 126, a first electrode layer 122a, an insulating layer 122b, a second electrode layer 122c, a metal layer 124, an optical adhesive layer 127, and a passivation layer 128. The first electrode layer 122a, the insulating layer 122b and the second electrode layer 122c together form the touch sensing array 122. Although not shown in detail herein, in practical applications, the first electrode layer 122a and the second electrode layer 122c may respectively include electrode rows perpendicular to each other, and a user may perform touch sensing through the staggered electrode rows at each point. The metal layer 124 includes a peripheral lead 124a for electrically connecting the first electrode layer 122a and the second electrode layer 122c to transfer the touch information to the integrated circuit chip.
Here, the flexible substrate 126 may be composed of polyethylene terephthalate (polyethylene terephthalate; PET), epoxy, polyimide (PI), or other materials. The first electrode layer 122a and the second electrode layer 122c may be formed of a transparent conductive material, such as Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) or Indium zinc Oxide (Indium Zinc Oxide; IZO). The insulating layer 122b may be made of various insulating materials to isolate the first electrode layer 122a from the second electrode layer 122c. The optical cement layer 127 may include urethane-acrylate (PUA), silicone, or other material having high light transmittance. The passivation layer 128 may be made of silicon nitride, silicon oxide, silicon oxynitride, acrylic or other materials to block moisture intrusion.
In other embodiments, although not actually shown here, the touch sensing film 120 may include a single electrode layer having electrode rows with staggered intervals for touch sensing at points along the transparent cover 110.
Referring back to fig. 1A, in some embodiments, the flexible display panel 130 may be an active organic light emitting diode (Active Mode Organic Light Emitting Diode; AMOLED) display or other flexible display suitable for electronic paper. The flexible display panel 130 may include a plurality of color pixels and driving arrays.
In some embodiments, the material of the decorative layer 140 may be one or a combination of acrylic, epoxy, or silicon, and may be doped with a dye to have a specific color. In some embodiments, the decorative layer 140 may be formed of multiple layers to reduce the penetration rate of the decorative layer 140 or to increase the aesthetic appearance. In some embodiments, various holes and openings may be formed in the decorative layer 140, and different materials may be filled therein, such as silver paint, IR ink (ink that can pass infrared light and block visible light and ultraviolet light), and the like. For example, the touch display device 100 may include an infrared emitter, and the decoration layer 140 may include a hole corresponding to the infrared emitter, which may be filled with IR ink, so that the infrared emitter may emit light through the IR ink.
In some embodiments, the first optical adhesive layer 150 and the second optical adhesive layer 160 have high light transmittance, and the material may include polyurethane acrylate (PUA), silicone, or other materials with high light transmittance.
In various embodiments, the material of the lower cover 170 may be metal, plastic, glass, or other materials suitable for assembly.
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of a touch display device 100 according to another embodiment of the invention. This embodiment is similar to the embodiment of fig. 1A, with the difference that: in this embodiment, the touch display device 100 does not include the decoration layer 140 (refer to fig. 1A).
As previously described, the side portions 114 may be curved or contoured to achieve the effect of concentrating or shifting light. Although the peripheral lead 124a is not shielded by the decorative layer 140 (see fig. 1A), the light from the peripheral lead 124a can be deflected from the original path through the side portion 114 by appropriately disposing the side portion 114 (e.g., designing the inner curved surface 116b or the outer curved surface 118 b). In this way, when the user is watching the touch display device 100, the human eye can generate a visual effect that the frame of the touch display device 100 disappears or the visual area VA becomes larger.
In addition, as described above, part of the display panel 130 and the touch sensing film 120 are disposed on the side portion 114, so that the side touch and display effects can be provided. Other details of this embodiment are substantially as described above and are not described in detail herein.
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of a touch display device 100 according to still another embodiment of the present invention. This embodiment is similar to the embodiment of fig. 1A, with the difference that: in this embodiment, the side portion 114 includes a curved portion 114a and a second flat portion 114b, wherein the curved portion 114a connects the first flat portion 112 and the second flat portion 114b. In one embodiment, the angle between the second flat portion 114b and the first flat portion 112 is 90 degrees to 130 degrees, more preferably 90 degrees.
Here, as described in the aforementioned glue-free bonding and computer numerical control lathe process, the transparent cover plate 110 is formed by bonding, cutting and polishing two substrates, and the cutting and polishing range can be controlled to be only located at the connection portion of the substrates, while the remaining portion of the substrates are not cut and polished, so that the side portion 114 includes the curved portion 114a and the second flat portion 114b.
In the present embodiment, the peripheral lead 124a may be disposed on the second flat portion 114b, so that the range of the decoration layer 140 can be further reduced. Therefore, the present embodiment can further narrow the frame. Other details of this embodiment are substantially as described above and are not described in detail herein. In another embodiment, the decorative layer 140 may be omitted, especially in a small-sized touch display, the width and the spacing of the peripheral leads are reduced, so that the effect of weakening the light can be achieved by only deflecting the light through the side edges.
In various embodiments of the present invention, the transparent cover plate is designed to have a side edge, and the flexible touch film and the flexible display film are designed to be attached to the transparent cover plate, so that the touch display device not only can narrow or eliminate the design of the frame, but also can realize the side display and touch functions.
While the present invention has been described with respect to various embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and it is intended that the invention be limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
