Description

The present invention relates to a process for the protection of textile materials against harmful fungi. <B> Method for protecting </B> textile materials <B> against </B> harmful fungi   It has been found, and this is the subject of the present invention, that the 3-phenyl indazole of formula EMI0001.0007     is an excellent fungicide to use in this process.   Phenyl-3 indazole can be obtained for example according to the method described by W. Borsche and W. Scriba,. Ann. Chem. <I> 540 </I> 83 (1939), that is to say by cyclization of the hydrazone of 2-bromo-benzophenone in dimethylformamide in the presence of sodium carbonate and copper powder.   Phenyl-3 indazole has remarkable fungicidal properties as demonstrated by the following tests. Strips of tissue 15 × 3 cm are immersed in a suspension of the said compound at various concentrations in water to which 0.02% has been added. polyoxyethylene sorbitol mono-oleate (Tween 80)        until they are well impregnated.   After soaking, the strips are either buried in the soil (soil rich in humus) so that they are exposed to soil microorganisms, or subjected to attacks by cellulolytic molds in an artificial medium constituted by EMI0001.0037        <SEP> ammonium nitrate <SEP> 3 <SEP> g <tb> Sulphate <SEP> of <SEP> magnesium, <SEP> 7 <SEP> H..O <SEP> 0.5 <SEP> g <tb> <SEP> chloride <SEP> potassium <SEP> 0.25 <SEP> g <tb> Phosphate <SEP> monopotassium <SEP> 1 <SEP> g <tb> Agar <SEP> 20 <SEP> g <tb> Distilled water <SEP> <SEP> q.s.p. <SEP> l000 <SEP> em: i The cellulolytic molds used are:        Cha- tomium globosum, Stachybotrys atra, Penicillium funicu- losum, Alternaria tenuis, Cladosporium herbarum, Tri- choderma viride, Aspergillus flavus, Precilomyces varioti,           Pullularia pullulans and Aspergillus niger.   The time of burial in the soil or exposure to mold is 3 weeks, the temperature being 20 ,, C for the tests in the soil and 25 ,, C for the tests in artificial medium.   At the concentration of 0.1 0/0 in the soaking bath, 3-phenyl indazole provides total protection of the strips of tissue from both soil microorganisms and cellulolytic molds.   The process according to the invention is characterized by the use, as fungicidal agent, of 3-phenyl indazole.   Usual methods can be used to apply the protective product. A preferred method consists in dipping the textile material to be protected in a suspension of 3-phenyl indazole in water added with a wetting agent or in a solution of 3-phenyl indazole in an organic solvent such as acetone, ethanol, methylene chloride or dimethylformamide. Preferably, suspensions or solutions containing 0.5 to 2% of active product are used.   The following example shows how the invention can be put into practice.   <I> Example </I> To 50 g of 3-phenyl indazole, 2 g of Tween 80 and 10 liters of water are added with stirring. The suspension thus obtained is used for soaking natural or synthetic fabrics to be protected against attack by molds.
