Description

Polishing pad. For a very long time, we have used for polishing key metals assemblies of key discs cotton, wool, flannel or silk, called, in terms of trade, pads. polish.

Depending on the type of metal, as well as the degree (the finish required, when they are rotating on a suitable machine, the outer surface of these pads is coated with a more or less greasy abrasive paste. This process gives excellent results, but which are sometimes long to achieve, depending on the nature of the metals; as a result there is a strong heating of the worked parts, a great wear (the discs, with key formation large quantities of dust which must be sucked if the health of the workers is not intended to be harmed (the rapid wear of the pads also causes a high consumption of polishing pastes which are expensive.

The object (the present invention is a polishing pad consisting of a fabric of superpolyamide, for example nylon; said pad has (the undoubted advantages largely outweighing the relatively high cost of these fabrics.

As a result of the great resistance to wear, (the insensitivity to, humidity and chemical inertia of these fabrics, working times are considerably reduced and, unlike, what happens passes with other textiles, little or no dust is formed, depending on the nature of the metals worked as well as the polishes used. Their wear, taking into account the production factor, is minimal compared to that textiles used so far.

The insensitivity to absorption of superpolyamide fabrics makes it possible to economically prepare pads coated with polishes or abrasives suitable for the work to be carried out, without thereby changing their flexibility. The preparation with a view to use may consist in melting a fatty substance, for example tallow, in suspending therein an abrasive resistance or in polishing, and in dipping the buffer in the bath obtained.

When using this pad, the loss of time occasioned by the continual renewal of the coating with abrasive or polishing products is largely avoided, and a very appreciable saving in these is achieved. here, even in the case of small pro ductions.
