Abstract

A gem-mounting system comprising a holder, gems and jaws with the gems embedded on the holder. The mounting piece as a whole has a flat and elongate olive shape. Four small gems which are secured by six jaws are embedded in the mounting piece to form a large-sized gem. The structure of the mounting piece according to the invention is new and unique. It can be made into or be combined to form a ring, earring, necklace, brooch using a variety of diamond or gem jewels. The mounting piece of the present invention is advantageous in cost due to the use of inexpensive small gems to form visually expensive and apparently larger gems.

Description

Gem-mounting System Field of the Invention The present invention relates to embedded gems, and particularly to the settings for forming a visually-apparent larger-sized gem using smaller gems.
Background of the Invention Conventional gem mounting is based on the separate positioning of each gem in a setting using two or more jaws. This form of conventional mounting has several disadvantages with respect to the visual appearance of the gems within the setting and, in particular with small gems appearing as small gems. Furthermore, conventional settings using multiple stones may have a decreased brightness by virtue of the setting.
Accordingly, there has been a need for a new setting or mounting system which overcomes these problems.
Summary of the Invention An object of the invention is to provide a new system of gem-mounting pieces, for forming apparently larger and, hence, more expensive gems using relatively smaller gems in a holder construction which minimizes losses in brightness of the embedded gems .
To achieve the above object, there is provided a gem-mounting system comprising a holder, gem and jaws with the gem embedded on the holder. The bottom of the holder is an olive shape with six jaws erected therefrom with two of the jaws, provided at the left and right ends of the olive shaped holder, and the other four jaws at the edge of the olive shaped holder. Four gems are embedded on the holder with one against another and secured by the six jaws, so as to form a gem-mounting system with minimum central gaps formed by the four gems.
Brief Description of the Drawings These and other features of the invention will be more apparent from the following description in which reference is made to the appended drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the gem-mounting system of the invention;

Figure 5 is a left side view of the gem-mounting system shown in Figure 2;
Figure 6 is a top view of the embedding construction of the gem-mounting system of the invention;
Figure 7 is a front view of the embedding construction of the middle gem in the gem-mounting piece of the invention;

Figure 10 is a perspective view of the gem-mounting system of the invention in an earring;
Figure 11 is a perspective view of the gem-mounting system of the invention in a necklace;
Figure 12 is a perspective view of the gem mounting system of the invention in a brooch.
Description of the Invention Hereafter a detailed description of the gem-mounting piece of the invention will be made with reference to the drawings.
The mounting piece comprises a holder l, gem 2 and embedding jaws 3. The holder 1 has an olive-shaped bottom with two pointed ends. Six embedding jaws are provided around the periphery of the holder, in which two embedding jaws 3-1, 3-4 are formed on the left and right ends of the olive shaped holder, and the other four embedding jaws 3-2, 3-3, 3-5, 3-6 are symmetrically located on the two sides with respect to the left/right axis of the holder. Four small gems 2-l, 2-2, 2-3, 2-4 are embedded on the holder 1 in the manner of one abutting another, and then secured by the six embedding jaws so as to form an apparently larger-sized composite gem as shown in Figure 1.
The front, top, bottom side and views of the gem-mounting piece of the invention are shown in Figures 2, 3, 4, 5, respectively. The four Figures in combination illustrate the construction of the gem-mounting system. As shown in Figure 2, the holder 1 has the construction of a plate with the embedding jaws 3 provided thereon and a small gem 2, is secured between two adjacent embedding jaws. The gem is flat on the top and bottom with its middle part having an edge protruding outward and part of the edge embedded into the embedding jaws. As best shown in Figure 3, the holder 1 is shaped like a fish, and also like a person's eye with four gems each shaped like a fish. Among the four gems 2 the opposite two gems are identical in shape, and the gems 2-1, 2-3, and 2-2, 2-4 are arranged in a cross symmetry to form an embedded gem. Four openings corresponding to the embedding positions of the four gems are formed on the holder 1, as shown in Figure 4. This structure provides by means that light penetrating the gems will reflect and retract more light thus, becoming more visually apparent.
In Figure 5, the left side view of the gem-mounting piece is shown with the right side view being the mirror image of it. The holder 1, three jaws 3-1, 3-2 and 3-6 as well as three gems 2-1, 2-2, and 2-4 can be seen.
A view illustrating the embedding of the gem by means of the jaws is shown in Figure 6. The small circles in Figure 6 denote the jaws 3 and the parts surrounded by the dotted lines illustrate the parts of the gems embedded therein. It can be seen that two gems 2-1, 2-3 at the left and right sides of the holder 1 are secured by three jaws respectively, i.e., the gem 2-1 is secured by the jaws 3-l, 3-2, 3-6, and the gem 2-3 by the jaws 3-3, 3-4, 3-5. Two gems 2-2, 2-4 spaced away from the left and right sides of the holder 1 are secured by two jaws respectively, i.e., the gem 2-2 is secured by the jaws 3-2, 3-3, and the gem 2-4 by the jaws 3-5, 3-6. It should be noted that the two gems 2-2, 2-4 are held by the jaws at their tips. As shown in the Figure, the jaws 3-1 and 3-4 at the left and right-side of the holder each holds only one gem, and the other four jaws which are not located at the left and right-side of the holder each holds two gems. This structure constitutes the characteristic feature of the gem-mounting piece of the present invention.
Figure 7 and 8 are the explanatory views for further indicating the mounting.
Figure 7 shows the state of embedding the diamond or gem 2-4 by means of the jaws 3-and 3-6. Figure 8 shows the state of embedding the gem 2-1 by means of the jaws 3-6, 3-l, 3-2.
The gem-mounting system of the present invention is particularly suitable for creating apparently larger-sized and olive shaped precious gem jewellery with pointed tips by small and olive shaped gems with sharp tips.
Figure 9 to 12 show an embodiment of the products made by the gem-mounting system of the present invention. In Figure 9, a ring with two gem-mounting pieces of the invention is shown. Figure 10 shows the earring with two gem-mounting pieces of the invention thereon. Figure 11 shows a type of cross flower-like necklace ornament with four gem-mounting pieces of the present invention thereon. A flower-like brooch ornament with five gem-mounting pieces of the invention thereon is shown in Figure 12.
The products of the present invention have the advantages of low cost, high additional value of the product, and the flexibility of incorporating a great variety of fashions through the efficient use of small gems. -'
