Abstract

FORM-AL-FORM IS AN ASSEMBLY OF UNIQUE
INSTRUMENTS WHICH MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO UTILIZE
FULL 4' BY 8' STYROFOAM SHEETING CONNECTED AND
SEPARATED BY MEANS OF PLASTIC TIE RODS TO
PRODUCE AN EXTREMELY EFFICIENT MEANS FOR
FORMING CONCRETE.
THIS MODERN METHOD OF FORMING CONCRETE
ENABLES THE FORMS TO REMAIN AS PART OF THE
STRUCTURE ONCE THE CONCRETE HAS DRIED AND THUS
THE STYROFOAM BECOMES AN INSULATING FACTOR
SURROUNDING THE CONCRETE STRUCTURE.
THE MOST SIGNIFICANT FEATURE ABOUT FORM-AL-FORM IS THAT IT ENABLES THE USE OF FULL SIZE 4' BY 8', OR LARGER, SHEETS OF STYROFOAM TO BE USED, WITHOUT CUTTING, TO CONSTRUCT THE CONCRETE
FORMS.

IJNLIKE ANY FORMING SYSTEM PRESENTLY KNOWN IN
EXISTENCE, FORM-AL-FORM'S USE OF FULL 4' BY 8' STYROFOAM SHEETING REDUCES CONSTRUCTION TIME
TREMENDOUSLY.

Description

SPECIFICATION
THIS INVENTIQN RELATES TO A MANUALLY
CONSTRUCTED SYSTEM FOR FORMING CONCRETE.
IT IS COI~MON FOR SYSTEMS WHICH UTILIZE
STYROFOAM SHEETING IN CONSTRUCTING CONCRETE
FORMS~ TO BE UNABLE TO UTILIZE LAR~iE SHEETS OF
STYROFOAM BECAUSE OF THE FACTOR WHICH PREVENTS
THE CC)~NECTION OF THESE LARGE SHEETS C~UE TO A
LACK OF ANY PRODUCT AND METHOD.
I HAVE FOUND THAT THE CONCRETE FORMIN~i METHODS PRESENTLY AVAILABLE MAKE IT ~ANDATORY
TO USE ~ ~ INCH WIDE STRIPS OF STYROFOAM OR
STYROFOAM BLOCKS, MAKING THESE METHODS OF FORM
CONSTRUCTION VE RY LABOR INTENSIVE.
BY UTIL171N~i FOR~AL-FORM'S UNIOUE PLASTIC
TIES~ LAR~3E 4' BY ~' SHEETS OF STYROFOAM ARE ABLE
TO BE USED AS THE FORMING PANEL THUS CONTAINING

THE NEWLY POURED CONCRETE, AND SO PRODUCING A
VERY FAST AND EFFICIENT MEANS OF CONSTRU~TING A
CONCRETE FORM.
IN DRAWINGS WHICH ILLUSTRATE EMBOC)IMENTS OF
THE INVENTION, SEGMENT OF FORM-AL-FORM AS IT CONTAINS POURED
CONCRETE.
FIGURE ~ SHOWS A CLOSE UP VIEW OF A FORM-AL-FORM PLASTIC TIE WHICH CONNECTS TWO SHEETS OF
STYROFOAM TO PRODUCE A PE RMANENT CONCRETE
FORM.
FIGURE 3 SHOWS A SIDE CROSS SECTIONAL ~IEW OF
THE END CAP WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE PLASTIC TIE IN
ORDE R TO COMPLETE THE CONNECTION OF THE TWO
SHEETS OF STYROFOAM, THE MEANS OF FASTENING THE
END CAP IS ALSO PROPOSED TO BE A THREhDED NUT ON

~1~83~3 ~OLT TVPE SYSTEM.

FULL SIZE 4' BY ~' FOR~AL-FORM? COMPLETE WITH
TWENTY-ONE FOR~AL-FORM PLASTIC TIES ANl:) TWO 4' BY~' STYROFOA~ISHEETS.

HOL~)lNl~i CAPABILITY.
FIGURE ~ SHOWS FRONT VIEW OF A FORM-AL-FORM
PLASTIC CONNECTOR TIE WHICH IS USEC~ ALONG THE
SEAMS WHERE TWO SEPARATE FORM STRUCTURES ARE
CONNECTED.

PLASTIC CORNE R CONNECTOR TIE WHICH IS USED FOR
JOINING TWO SEPARATE FORMS AT A ~0 ~)E~iREE ANGLE.
OTHER CORNER CONNECTORS IN VARIOUS DEGREED
ANGLES ARE OPTIONAL.

~ETHOD

A~ THE FORMS ARE CONSTRUCTED IN 4' BY 8' SECTIONS.
B) THE CORNERS ARE CONSTRUCTED SEPERATELY.
1 1 THE FOR~AL-FORM PLASTIC TIES ARE PL ACED
THROl~GH THE HOLES IN THE E~TERIOR 4' BY 8' SHEET OF
STYROFOAM~ AS THE END CAPS ARE FASTENED TOTHE
PLASTIC TIES SANDWICHING ANC~ LOCKING THE
STYROFOhM IN PLACE.
~ THE 4' BY ~' PANELS ARE THEN CONNECTE~ TO
EACH OTHE R USING THE FORM-AL-FORM PANEL
CONNECTORS .
3) RE-BAR AND OTHE R NECESSARY
CONSTRUCTION IS A~)MINISTEREI:~ TO THE CONCRETE
FORM.
4) THE INTERIOR 4' BY 8' SHEET OF STYROFOAM IS
THEN SANDWICHED OYE R THE FORM-AL-FORM PLhSTlC
TIES AN~ THE INTERIOR EN~ CAPS ARE LOCKE~ IN PLACE.

-5) THE ~ORNER PANELS H~VING BEEN
CONSTRUCTED SEPE RATE ARE FASTENED TO THE WALL
FORMS.
~ A WOQ~EN SCAFFOLC)IN~i IS BUILT AROUND THE
FORMING TO SThBALlZE hN~ AC~JUST THE LEVELNESS OF
THE FORM.
7) THE CONCRETE IS POlJRE~ AND ALLOWE~ TO
C)RY.
THE SChFFOLC~lNG IS REMOVE~.
CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES.

Claims (3)

1) A MANUALLY CONSTRUCTED SYSTEM IN THE FORM
OF THAT STATED IN THE PREC:EEDING PAGES WHICH
UTILIZES SPECIALLY ENGINEERED TIE RODS TO ENABLE
CONCRETE FORMS TO BE CONSTRUCTED FROM UNCUT 4' BY 8' OR LARGER, SHEETS OF STYROFOAM.
2) A MANUALLY CONSTRUCTED SYSTEM AS DEFINED
IN CLAIM ONE WHICH BECOMES A PART OF THE WALL AFTER
THE CONCRETE HAS DRIED.
