Abstract
The present invention relates to the structure of an ice cream cone, with the intent of controlling the melting ice cream by means of a flange extending from the perimeter wall of the cone. This flange would form a "reservoir" to contain any melted ice cream.
Description
_ 2144108 , ICE CREAM CONE
The present invention relates to a receptacle commonly known as an ice cream cone, for dispensing and retaining ice cream in a cleaner, neater and more practical manner.
There are various types of ice cream cones in different shapes, sizes and composition. The shortcomings of each is that regardless of the type, the ice cream melts and flows downward over the cone creating a messy situation for the user.
It is desirable to have a cone, which is formed in such a manner that the melting ice cream can be retained as to prevent dripping of the ice cream all over the cone.
The present invention consists in one aspect of an ice cream cone made of a confectionary material which is comprised of a cup portion and a flange attached to the cylindrical wall of the cup portion is a radial flaring flange extending outwardly from the wall at an angle to create a reservoir.
The flange extends from a distance below the opening of the cylindrical section outwardly to a level just below that of the opening of the cylindrical section, thus the reservoir formed is at the upper section of the cup.
In another aspect of the invention the ice cream cone, made of the confectionary material, which is comprised of a cup _ ~14410~
portion and a flange. Attached to the cylindrical wall of the cup portion is a radial flaring flange extending outwardly from the wall in an arc to create the reservoir. The flange extends from a distance below the opening of the cylindrical section outwardly to a level just below that of the opening of the cylindrical section, thus the reservoir is at the upper section of the cup.
An embodiment of the invention is described hereinafter as a non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a view from the top of the cone Figure 2 is a view from the front elevation showing the cross-sectional characteristic profile of the cone Figure 3 is a view from the front elevation showing the external shape of the cone Figure 4 is a view from the bottom of the cone Figure 5 is a view from the top of the cone Figure 6 is a view from the front elevation showing the cross-sectional characteristic profile of the cone Figure 7 is a view from the front elevation showing the external shape of the cone Figure 8 is a view from the bottom of the cone

- 2 -_2144148 As shown, the cone consists of a cylindrical section (9) which forms the body of the cone with the opening at the top, to accept the ice cream. The flange (10) which is an integral part of the cone attached radially to the cylindrical wall, and flaring outward from the center to form the reservoir (11).
The flange extends at an angle (12) to a level (13) opening on the cylindrical section. Alternatively, the flange extends in an arc (14) to a level (13) below that of the opening on the cylindrical section. This is to preclude the reservoir (11) from being covered when the ice cream is placed on the cone.
The handle portion is tapered and may be formed as a cup (flattened bottom) (15) or alternatively as a fully tapered conical handle (16). This invention applies to all the various types of ice cream cones that are in the marketplace.
This invention is not limited to the features of this embodiment, described and illustrated, but includes all variations and modifications within the scope of the claims.

Claims (3)
OR PRIVILIGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A cone formed of a confection comprising of a cylindrical cup portion and a tapered handle portion, a radial flaring flange extending from the outer periphery of the cup wall to a level slightly below that of the edge of the cup opening to form a continuous open reservoir (trough) around the periphery of the cone, and such that one cone can be stacked within another cone.
2. A cone formed of a confection comprising of a cylindrical cup portion and a tapered handle portion, a radial flaring flange extending from the outer periphery of the cup wall at an angle, a substantial distance from the cup to a level slightly below that of the edge of the cup opening forming a continuous open reservoir (trough) around the cup portion.
3. A cone formed of a confection comprising of a cylindrical cup portion and a tapered handle portion, a radial flaring flange extending from the outer periphery of the cup wall in an arc, a substantial distance from the cup, to a level slightly below that of the edge of the cup opening forming a continuous open reservoir (trough) around the cup portion.
